So this got to be a shot to be the best selling FF since FFVII?

This was released during a worldwide pandemic and its in the company of exclusives like God of War and Spider-Man for potential sales opening week and depending on legs it has a chance for 10 million especially with the Xbox and PC version still to be released a year from now.

Sold through vs shipped though.
Considering the state of most retailers, a majority of those "shipped" are already off the shelves. There's a reason why the "FF7R sold out on Amazon" thread was so big. Just like a lot of games during the quarantine, it's been difficult to get hands on a physical copy for a lot of people for obvious reasons.

Great result but abundantly clear lack of physical supply is holding it back.

It could have/would have beat FFXV otherwise IMO.

Game sold 100K units Day one in germany. Considering it sould out pretty fast i'm expecting it to go up to 200K as fast as God of War, ( Took God of War 2 Months to sell 200k units)

For comparison, FFXV shipped 5M in the same time window, though that one had some stock left I believe. This one, on the other hand, is facing shortages in a lot of places. Strong performance for an exclusive for sure!
If wasn't the current state of the world,FFVII would easily surpass the 4M+ mark, and FFXV was over shipped,I think even with 3,5M FFVII number is more impressive and the legs will be much better,10M+ seller easy.
Fastest selling Ps4 exclusive ever.

GoW was at some point at 3.1, then Spider-Man at 3.3 now FFVIIR at 3.5
I don't think.

Final Fantasy 15 was pretty much front loaded - look at the japanese sell trough and how it burned out their sales.

i am expecting much better legs for Final Fantasy VII, given how it was sold out in a lot of places, the great reviews and word of mouth behind it.

if you ship 5 Mio in the first week and it takes you 3 years (adding the PC Version) to reach 9 Mio it says enough about the legs
FF games have rarely sold more than 10 million so this number is already the peak. The series has a limit on how much it can sell.

All of the people saying this Remake can sell 10 million easily, I just don't see it. I already explained the reason but it was taken as a criticism against the game. I have no idea how many people have finished the game but the reaction to the ending is quite divisive and the more people will finish it or see the ending, the more word of mouth around it is going to spread.
The ending makes it clear this is a "sequel" and not a full remake and there is a lot more to come.

Fantastic result for the JRPG of this gen. People shouldn't compare it to that FFXV number. That game was overshipped at time.

And I would've bought a copy if it weren't for COVID making it impossible to buy physical games. I'm sure there are plenty in my situation as well.

Very good sales considering what's going on, nice.

Hopefully it has decent legs, and I'm sure there's a PC and PS5 version in its future. Game looks amazing on my PS4 Pro, would love to see it beefed up for next-gen.

It would be amazing for FF7 Remake to be the best selling FF since FF7.

I'll be double dipping on ps5 GOTY Edition and triple dipping the PS6 Complete FF7 Edition.

My city didnt have physical copies until about 10 days after launch. I'd imagine a lot of places worldwide faced similar issues due to the outbreak. Still really crazy numbers!

According to Japanese sources, the game has sold over one million units in Japan:

スクウェア・エニックスは、2020年4月10日に全世界同時発売したPS4用ソフト「ファイナルファンタジーVII リメイク」の販売本数(パッケージ初回出荷本数とダウンロード販売数の合計)が、発売から3日で、日本国内で100万本、全世界累計で350万本を突破したことを明らかにした。

Looking at Famitsu sales numbers for the physical version, that would mean the digital version sold at least 297,147 copies in Japan.

I dont think the XV being a multiplattform release matters that much tbh - most of the fanbase was always on PS anyways and the PS4 install base today isnt really smaller than PS4/XBO combined at the time of the XV release.

Square Enix big sellers this gen(Not counting the western developed games like TR)
FFXV - 8.9m
DQ11 - 5.5m
KH3 - 5+m
NieR - 4.5m
FF7 - 3.5m; on one platform so far; could go and be their best seller

Happy to see them like this after last gen.

Why will people buy it when it is one third or possibly even less of a full game? (story-wise not content-wise) I doubt it will have legs.

While I don't think this will become the best-selling FF of all time, I do believe the answer to this is that FFVII Remake seems to have particularly strong word-of-mouth. It will have legs, though I don't think those legs will be much more impressive than XV's (which were decent enough for a JRPG).

That's good too, I wasn't throwing shade, I just feel like I always hear about people have been disappointed with Square lately.
Nearly every big Square IP this gen has been doing numbers. They don't "need" another W lol. People on Era will always be negative regardless.

I wonder how much Sony payed for that 1 year of exclusivity because if you compare this with the FFXV numbers then going exclusive means you lose a lot of early sales. Though it's hard to say how much is Corona's fault.

Do note that it released on an additional platform. I feel like you can only really judge whether something has legs in an apples to apples comparison. If you're going to release on more platforms over time then I feel like it's only logical that your game will have "legs".
It proved its legs even before the PC release. And then continued to prove them over a year after the PC release. There's no undermining how well FFXV did haha

Your predictions are crazy unrealistic. No game triples its day one sales in a little more than half a year without releasing on aditional platforms. The only way you can maybe do this is by dropping the price hard to $5 bargain bin level but they're obviously not going to do that. I don't even think evergreen Nintendo titles have legs like that.

It proved its legs even before the PC release. And then continued to prove them over a year after the PC release. There's no undermining how well FFXV did haha
Sure, it sold great but I disagree about the legs part. 4 million over 3 years with a PC release, a Royal edition rerelease and deep sales for a game that launched at 5 million is not what I'd call legs. It hasn't even doubled its launch sales yet.

Compare that to a very similar selling game that did have legs: MHW. It also sold 5 million in the launch window and had a delayed PC release. Around the same time we got the 9 million number for FFXV it was reported that MHW had sold 15 million. MHW also released a year later.

Majority of people loved the ending ( Even in a poll here, 65% liked it). Overall the reactions are ludicrous. I can't remember a Final Fantasy game with so many positive reactions.

Many people in this thread acting like FFXV didn't sell well...

Anyway, it sold really well, will sell even better once the timed exclusivity is over.

It's more like people acting like comparing the 10+ million XV sold on multiple platforms vs. VIIR on one platform at launch is a silly argument? Expectations are different.

Look at exclusives with brand power for PS4 have all sold close to well 10 Million+. God of war and Spiderman both had similar sales figures with first three days of release. This will be at 8+ Million by this time next year. And by that time PC version will have been announced since the exclusive deal ends in April.

There's also not competition right now. Last of us and Ghosts got pushed. So what other big game is coming in May? They will print more copies and it will sell. Also some of the issues with shipping are starting to get corrected, and some bans will be lifted in mid May.

Is that less than Kh3?

Kingdom hearts did around 5 million in it's first week but was multiplatform. This is literally on one platform and did 3.5 Million in 3 days. It did more than half of what KH3 did in similar time frame with it being only on one platform.

Thats huge.

you also have to take account the time the past games were released.
FF7-FFX were exclusives (with a PC port iirc) in a time where software sales (due rental, modded console, no PSN offers) were much lower than today and reached those sales

FFXIII and FFXV managed to reach those high sales, despite the negative word of mouth and low reviews (for a FF Game) and beeing Mulitplattform.

im pretty confident, that FF7 Remake can reach atleast 10 Mio LTD, when FFXV managed to reach 9 Mio.

I'm not even talking about the comparisons.

And with the corona crisis and the situation now... this is very insane!

10M+ by the end of next year with the release of other versions of the game is given now.

Best RPG game of the last 10 years or maybe even more.

You are actively spoiling the game in this topic. Can you not?
Ummm, what did I spoil about the game itself? I am only mentioning the ending of the game and haven't talked about it in this thread. Saying the ending is divisive is spoiling it? Saying it is not the full story is spoiling it?

I am just trying to explain why I think the legs on it will be weak. By the time an eventual PS5 version will be out, I expect it to be bundled with the sequel, or so on. In such a case, do we really count the sales or legs as the whole game? I am mainly talking about this Remake and any ports it gets for PC or Xbox One. Remember, we have just one year until the next-gen consoles arrive.

If we count every sequel this gets, then, of course, it will be obviously above 10 million.

You literally strawmanned people's arguments while people are putting XV's sales into context responding to people downplaying these sales. You absolutely are.
