This game/remake/multiverse party is becoming so fucking meta and I absolutely love it. This is what I wanted when the whole thing was announced. A complete mind fuck and not a slavish 1:1 regurgitation of a PS game.

Lol, remember before Remake came out, everyone was so certain that the Compilation stuff would be excised?

I for one welcome FFVII becoming Kingdom Hearts.

If they're so intent on changing stuff, the least they could do is kill any DoC-adjacent character so that DoC's events can't happen. Don't let this new universe suffer from that.
IIRC, the Ultimania did say that there was a very specific reason why the fates battle happening right at Midgar's front door had to happen, and said reason is linked to Zack being back, so maybe?

That was my favorite part of this. I hope part 2 has more interactions like that. I'd have to imagine Red's VA wasn't available or something.
Yeah, the travelling around the world and having banter part of the games is why I love parties, especially in FF. It's about the main reason I want a party in XVI, even if I doubt we'll get one.

Getting to a new town, exploring it, settling in, talking to the locals... hopefully this feels like a journey, it's the part I'm most excited about, considering how the story path they've laid out I'm currently hating.

I'm iffy about Zack living, but I like him and Cissnei together so if we get more of them, I'm down

I'm like hell yes on Zack living so I'm all for it. He'll probably return to his own timeline at the end anyway, so you'll just know that version of him is off living his best life after the game's plot.

Aerith meeting Cissnei will be uh... something given Remake's version of her character and Cissnei's obvious feelings for Zack, lol.

Maybe the whole thing is like the LOST ending or something, Zack just waiting for Aerith to die so they can hangout again

It's funny because I prefer Zack and Cissnei together because Aerith in CC is pretty eh in comparison to Cissnei's sass but Aerith in Remake has the sass too.

I've been looking forward to playing this and I totally thought it was coming to PS4 as well. There's no chance I'm getting a PS5 before then.

Guess I'm watching a let's play!

Big brain: Maybe Zack is still dead and this whole thing is an Owl Creek Bridge scenario. And the church is his afterlife.

So then the Stamp snack bag as a red herring?

I think people are misinterpreting the cutscene.

The logo on the snack bag and the fact Zack goes to Aerith's church but she isn't there actually implies a lot more is different in that timeline than just Zack not dying. It's clearly not set after Part I, either, since Sector 7 is still standing and Squeenix isn't that careless. If anything it should be set before Part I, since Cloud was in Midgar for a few weeks before the game starts.

Which, of course, raises the question of where Aerith is. Zack surviving changes a lot and the consequences should be considerable. We know the Turks made it their personal mission to keep Aerith safe from ShinRa after they found out Zack had died. That's why Reno kept showing up at the church, after all - not to bring Aerith in, but to make sure she stayed hidden.

So maybe, without the news that Zack had died, the Turks weren't as vigilant and Aerith got captured?

So Zack was clearly snatched from a different timeline right? That could be an explanation for two busterswords existing at the same time

Midgar, With Love
For some reason I always "knew" in the back of my mind that the Midgar -> Kalm segment wouldn't be gameplay. Not that I mind. This sounds like fun coverage of it.

Yeah I agree with all of this. I feel like the ending is designed to make people instantly think Zack is alive but when you look into it further there's a lot of signs that something isn't right.

All I'm gonna say is, I'm so hyped for part 2 haha

I'm really hoping Zack is only alive in a different timeline, but at this point it looks like he may actually be in the same one as Cloud and company were in Remake. How would that even work? Are there 2 clouds in this timeline now?

Oh well, I'm on board for whatever at this point

Nomura found a way to cut the first open world before you reach Kalm lol.

Zack is surely in another timeline, the plates are still up and dont forget the dog thing

Multiple timelines are still confirmed.

How and what next and so many other questions still linger--- but not the same timeline. Both games tell us that via the plates, the dog, the buster and uh, Zack.

Big brain: Maybe Zack is still dead and this whole thing is an Owl Creek Bridge scenario. And the church is his afterlife.
I'm really looking forward to Max Dood's theory on this.

Finally got to the fight.

I honestly don't think Sonon died, well at least this isn't the last we see of him given how he pulls Sonon into the darkness makes me think he will use him to taunt Yuffie in the future like when he pulls the Deepground grunts out of the darkness before the fight.

Ehm people, don't you think that it was weird that Aerith mentioned a knot in her stomach?

I think that the "knot" that she feels is somehow related of her being stabbed in the OG.

I think it's nerves because she can sense Zack is back. Not that she knows, but she's feeling some of the feelings she'd feel if she did know. Which fits with Aerith's mysterious empathetic powers.

I thought it was a reference to her having a feeling Zack is at the church (either in another timeline or during the present although I think its the former). That or she just doesn't like rain haha

the ending seems to me to suggest that there won't be a world map. you are going to already be in kalm when part 2 begins

I don't think there was any real chance of there being a world map, anyway. There will, instead, likely be a path between Kalm and the Mythril Mines with the Chocobo Farm somewhere along the way. Then from the Mythril Mines to Junon will be another path, with Fort Condor somewhere along the route and so on and so forth until the party reaches Nibelheim.

I don't get the point of Zack being back but it's a different timeline.

Like... Why even bother then? Time ghosts are dead, Zack is in a another timeline, there isn't a reason to show him or for him to be a part of anything because it won't make a difference to the party and their story because you can't hope timelines because the ghosts are dead.

You could have a "What if?" FFVII where Zack was alive and make something out of that, but it just feels shoehorned in.

Though, obviously it's all set up for the finale where Zack and the expanded FFVII compilation Nomura babies will all join the main game at the end to save the multiverse from Thanos Time Lord Sephiroth. Also Aerith will be alive then even if she still dies in this game because of multiverse of madness time shenanigans.

I feel like a expansive world map is so far beyond the scope of what these games are anyway. They're very clearly focused on combat, I doubt they will shift too much from that in future titles. Environments won't be these tiny narrow little things they are in the first game but I don't think it will be open world (remember ppl also thought that the first game would be an open world in Midgar)

I think what you get instead is maybe some largeish Calm Land style areas linking places together

Anyway next big question is when do we see Genesis

Because the big twist in part 2 will be AERITH LIVES and Zack is almost certainly going to be the reason.
