You technically haven't bought a pre-order, just an upgrade to an edition that isn't available until June 10th. It's sucky but this is the way Sony has handled this process since launching the PS5 in November. I'd love to preload the game and the DLC too but this is the reality of it.
Yeah, I get that. It sucks. Everything Sony's been doing with BC has been embarassing so far, especially with this game (already downloaded full just to click 'upload save file', once).

Developers can support the pre-load process for this type of thing. It's the exact same on the backend as "buying a pre-order", as you put it.

Yeah, can delete any PS4 content it installs though once you get the download option. Disc will need to be in the drive to play PS5 version anyway

My guess is the same game as ps4 just with the dlc and upgrades visuals. If anything you'll see reviews of the yuffie dlc
PS5 version is ready for pre-load, upgrade PS4 to PS5 isn't up.
Been no details on that yet, but it sounds like everyone that upgrades needs to purchase it separately since we can't preorder the DLC.
If it's got an additional learnable ATB-consuming ability I'm officially salty about it.

At this point the only thing that you can pre order is the INTERGRADE PS5 Version.
The initial download to start the game is enough to upload the save then stop and delete the download or install.
It'll be added when they drop the upgrade I'm guessing.
Honestly given Guilty Gear, Rachet, E3, and a ton of other stuff it makes a lot of sense that Intermission isn't being pushed a lot.
It does take extra work for a process that quite frankly the majority of buyers of any given game will never need. Couldn't tell you exactly why any specific given company doesn't do it, though.
