It truly is baffling. "We're going to show more of the plate living and Midgar"
Cuts the chapter that would have given more new things and left in the nonsense motorcycle chapter so that JESSIE can have more screen time.
Okay...
"What's better than one motorcycle level that's built up to and leads to the climax of the game? Shoving another one in to a filler episode with a plot that goes nowhere." - The Internet.

Jessie sucks, her entire character is "I was an actress once" and "I wanna go down on Cloud." And the fact that they drug out her death so they can then follow it up with ANOTHER girl death scene later just repeats the "Why do a thing once when we can do it multiple times and remove the effect of it?" As they did with Seph too.
The entire "plate living" was a single map where there were zero npcs basically, a military base that you don't go into, and a motorcycle level with an enemy that culminates in no payoff in the ACTUAL motorcycle level at the end of the game.
The decisions to cut a TIFA chapter about the sector 7 plate premise is a baffling one when I take into account that "Whacky wahoo pizza time" got in.
There's a decent chance that we're getting a Tifa DLC package eventually involving the Tifa chapter, the Chocobo bikini, the police outft, maid outfit and dancer outfit.
Why include it in part 2 when it would be irrelevant by then?
A Tifa-centric DLC chapter is literal money in the bank, especially if you couple it with the discarded outfit ideas that came from the same book (including a maid outfit, policewoman outfit, and a "Chocobo Bikini").
Because on a remake that already is being divided in multiple parts, I find it incredibly fucked up to dare charge more with DLC.

This will absolutely happen. It will be overpriced. It will be a Day 1 purchase.

Yay, more gross fanservice for a character more known for it than than her actual character. You don't reveal such an elaborately-planned cut chapter like this without some plans to reintegrate it down the line.

I don't really think that changes the point? It's weird that a chapter dedicated to Tifa wasn't prioritize enough to be finished for the final game but a chapter that expands on a random character from the compilation was. It's baffling and disappointing. Especially when XV was riddled with not prioritizing the content female characters got.
Its possible they came up with the idea later in development and then ran out of time to implement it and decided it would be a smart incentive for re-release or DLC. It does kind of come up at a tricky point in the game with the pacing while Leslie was just inserted in the section of the OG where you had to figure out how to get to the top of the plate.I don't really think that changes the point? Hook me up with that DLC, and add some costumes for everybody.
I ended up editing my post to expand why it annoys me: the last big FF game was riddled with stuff being cut for the female characters, whether it was Luna originally confirmed to be a guest party member, to that getting scrapped and them trying to sell DLC about her instead, and then even that getting cancelled. That's not even touching on stuff like Aranea's dlc or daemon hunter Iris who we didn't even get to see. Maybe I'm 'overacting' but I don't really want to hear about about any major unfinished ideas, cut and/or cancelled content regarding female characters from SE for a very long time. Its possible they came up with the idea later in development and then ran out of time to implement it and decided it would be a smart incentive for re-release or DLC. I do agree I would have taken a Tifa chapter with character development for the Avalanche trio and Barret and Marlene over the entirety of chapters 13 and 14. I'm one of those people who really didn't mind those chapters either.
I always think about this angle.especially Tifa who often doesn't get to shine on her own a lot and whose history in Midgar (surviving on her own, meeting Barret, etc.) is barely explored
This. I really like the remake for the most part but it's riddled with baffling choices and the writing team having their priorities in the wrong places at times. Not everything needs to be explored and things can sometimes just be left up to the imagination of course but I can't believe no one thought moments like Tifa and Barret meeting was worth showing. Tragic.I always think about this angle.
There's so much lore in the FF7-verse and instead we're collecting albums for sad citizens to dance badly to.
