The tiny text and ugly font is what kills me, but I hope I can replace it with something that's more legiable.

On PC it takes all of five seconds to replace the font. In practice I don't think it is that big of a problem. There are multiple RPGs that I've stopped playing in the last week over BS UI issues. These are still larger and more legible than the flood of RPGs that don't scale the font up with resolution size. On my TV or ultra wide monitor, the font is pretty easy to read.

Oh no doubt

I will say that this isn't as ridiculously bad as the OG android version and they added some genuinely cool things like a handful of QoL tweaks, extra features, and that sick looking new opera scene.

Mixed bag but probably something that can be recommended overall.

Oh, for sure. This is way better than the previous mobile version.

But I really hate the text and there's something about the sprites that just doesn't work for me. It's hard to put my finger on what exactly it is.

I also dislike some of the location changes:

I really think the SNES version on the top looks better here. The mood of the scene feels very different in the remaster. I love that you can barely see the town in the original image and it becomes overbearing in the remaster.

Neither one of those really look like the original game to me. Both are oversaturated, one is too dark and one is too bright. I just booted up the original SNES cart on a CRT over S-video right now:

Yeah, I was gonna say that we need an inbetween brightness setting.

As for why these aren't getting day and date releases on console...

They're buggy. Right now FFV's Pixel Remaster, months after release recently fixed some bugs, but in the process created new ones. You can't complete your bestiary by defeating Gogo the intended way anymore, and would have to actually beat him in a battle, (where he's tougher to fight than Shinryu), and undead creatures, even bosses like Gil Turtle, can be instakilled by using a Bloodsword or the Lance command or otherwise attempting to drain their health.

So I'm pretty sure the plan is to have the mobile/steam versions be a way to playtest these games, then eventually sell them on console.

I'm in.

Not at launch because lol that release date. But this one can have the font modded out, and will have the new soundtrack, and it's the GOAT JRPG sooooo how can I resist 😢

When so few people noticed Narche below the cliff in the original that it became trivia, that might be a sign that it was bad.
I like that there's actually lights on now and it's visible, and at a better distance.
I hate that they slowed down the intro though.
The walking speed, and the scrolling are both slow.
Haven't seen it with sound, but I'm guessing it's to match the pace of the remixed theme.

I genuinely hate that UI+text, holy fucking shit. It looks like straight from RPG Maker.

The Music Player looks cute.
I hope you can customize which characters appear, but it would be fine if it's just locked in that every track has Cyan singing to Strago on the streets of Narshe.
The characters rotate. You see Cyan walking toward Strago. Cyan will stop and then Strago will start walking.
Edit since duplicate thread got merged:

FFVI is one of my favorite games of all time. Hopefully there will be some good font mods for the PC version.

The font mods for the other five have worked out quite well. Expect to see it within a few days of release.

So I can only buy this on Steam via this bundle? It's not available separately?

Oh nevermind, I scrolled down and saw in the DLC list that they are available separately as well

Though I won't be getting this version, I'm excited to read everyone's thoughts in the OT once it launches.

Plus it's one step closer to a potential collection on console!

The new version is much better.

PR are the definitive versions for the first six FF games, I hope after the release of FFVI PR... SE announce them for consoles and a physical release for the collection.

It's cheaper on Green Man Gaming, but i dont know if it requires a specific XP level.

Hard disagree. The town in the original was absurdly hard to see. The remaster is a big improvement.

Played the game a ton before, I always thought that opening scene was them looking at something off camera, the town is over yonder.

Never ever saw the town in the mountains.

This was how I viewed it too. In fact, it was these Pixel Remaster threads where I finally learned that there was, indeed, a town at the very bottom of that cliffside.

+1 for original town. The updated one just looks too busy, and I feel it takes away from the march in the snow to actually reach Narshe.

Good to know that there is a way to change the font. I CANT WAIT TO PLAY MY FAVORITE GAMER OF ALL TIME!

And I can't wait to hear the rearranged OST.

Were the other pixel remasters well received? I've been looking for the best way to play FFVI and I'd rather not get a SNES mini just for it.

People dunk on the prior remaster but if this one keeps one simple change from it, then this will be the one you play.

On SNES or likely even GBA Cyan is not very useful with his SwordArt because as it charges you can't do anything else. That was fixed in the mobile port we got last time. So look out for that.

Edit - Also on the side that thinks the new opening it better. I've always known Narshe was there, but I didn't notice it until many years later. The fact you have many in here who still didn't know just shows why this is an improvement.

When not realizing Narshe was there what did everyone assume they were looking at?

I may actually use Cyan outside of his forced bits. As fun as his sword charges were, it was annoying to sit on everyone else.

Yeah and it's great that now while they charge you cn still perform actions with your other party members.

They actually made Cyan good. I might actually use him for the first time ever.

Oh boy, I'm really waiting for that one, with it being my favorite FF.

I don't think there is much to worry about if I base myself on the arrangements made so far to the soundtrack(s), but I REALLY hope they didn't make an exception for the Opera sequence. I hope the song has not been altered to include real voices for example.

That's the main point for me, the Opera scene is too sacred in my eyes and should not receive too many changes or I'll be disappointed.

I'm welcoming the 3D effect they seem to have used. Just don't mess with my sound.

Terra theme sounds lovely.

One of my biggest fears has already been resolved. Now to hear Celes theme next.

Literally thought it was some mountain range they were at 😂

I played FFVI at least over 15 times across on SNES, PS1, GBA and got it on Steam and iOS

Never noticed it on any of the versions

Can't wait to buy this on steam and play it in the future

I've seen many of your posts, so I know your love for FFVI. I'm surprised you never noticed.

This makes me really wonder what was behind all the discussion around changing the sprites because of subtle CRT differences and then they go and choose the nuclear green grass.

I guess sure you can really focus on one thing but not the other but it makes for a weird package I guess.

Given that one of the pre-order bonuses is "Aria di Mezzo Carattere (Instrumental)" it sounds like they did actually add voices to the opera, since they're making a distinction about an instrumental version of it.
