I got curious and checked, Italian is the only language where there isn't a 2-3 character abbreviation for Level. Languages are weird.

Sounds like a bug. You're playing the US version of FFIVa? That one's got all kinds of buggy nonsense. Should be fixed in the UK version.

The FF1 "single-line" defense formation method wasn't used in any of the sequels, right? It's supposed to be even across all party members, and the back row was introduced to help reduce damage for the weak while the front row is for tankier characters.
you're not wrong about the bugs, lol speed is at 2 or 3 and certain units are two-turning/lapping other units who just get one turn, as in Cecil takes a turn and the bar not even 30% full and his turn queues up again

It's the middle "slot". It's totally bugged, from what I remember. Anyone in that position goes ham.

Cave of Shadows in FF3 really beat me up. I was down to single digits in both potions. It's hard when every enemy is doing 300+ damage a hit most of the time. I probably had a bad party lineup, but having an equipped Dark Knight did help.

I just got to the Pandaemonium in FF2. But I only have about an hour or two left before I'm supposed to go to bed, so it's down to the wire. Will I finish it before my weekend ends? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!

I shouldn't have spent all those hours grinding my spell levels lol

Ngl I'm kind of mad. I just ran into Iron Giant naturally as I was making my way through the dungeon. I spent several hours trying to get this mofo to appear in my first playthrough... smh

Beat it!
Final boss was way easier now that I know I can cast buffs on my entire party at once... lmao

I also managed to open all the chests and get the achievement this time.

TCA6Bnh.png

And that makes six Final Fantasy games that I've gotten 100% of the achievements for on Steam.

I think I might try to 100% FF4 next, but I'm going to take a break and play some other games first.

I must be doing something wrong or FF3 is by far the hardest of the first 3 games. Here I am in the Crystal Tower, spending half my turns using Hi-Potions on everyone because everyone is taking close to a thousand damage per hit. What was I supposed to do? It's a gamble if any battle is even winnable. I made it to like the 6th floor before I completely ran out of recovery items and MP.

Did you do the optional dungeon that nets you endgame weapons and the two last jobs?

Nearly finished with FFIII. It's definitely noticeably harder at the end than FFI or FFII were--by the end of those two enemies were, for the most part, minor nuisances, but here they actually seem to keep pace with the party and dungeons after each other are actually a significant step up, probably helped by the fact that dungeons don't reuse enemies from previous areas as much as the first two did. Rolling Viking, Black Belt, Dark Knight, and Devout now, just need to get through Eureka to get the last stuff before I can prep myself for the end.

I wrapped up the game at about 1000 more hp per character than you. what are your levels?

So you see, apparently I didn't. I exited the tower and tried going through it again and I noticed I never just took the first center door. Doing the Eureka dungeon, I see you get a lot of powerful weapons out of it. This will help a lot. I'm doing incredible damage now. Also, Sage and Ninja classes were unlocked. Should I be using these? It's hard to know what they even do or excel at without looking at a guide.

At that time, it was 47, I think? HP is starting to go up more quickly though.

The two Jobs you unlocked are the Pinnacle of each of the two main specs. Physical and Magical. Devout and Magus have more spell charges but Sages have the higher MAG stats for throughput, Ninjas have the highest attack, I think the only thing they lack is Stamina and only Viking offers more of that. But when you're hitting for loads of damage you're not gonna be taking many hits.

So this was the week that was, at some point, the week that FF 6 was at some point planned to release. Still no word on V, even. Rather than 3 weeks apart like the leaked release dates, FF4 was 6 weeks after 1-3. If FFV is six weeks after FF4, then we should get information about it starting this week, but I think stuff is way delayed and 6 will be early next year. Remaking six games in a new engine, simultaneously, is hard! There's been a ton of times where two games were handled like that, and like a few where there were 3 or 4, but 5 or 6 games being remade together as a batch is basically unheard of and there's very obvious cracks in the system. Only Final Fantasy is popular enough to justify that at $15 price points, and only SE throws that much money at a full-court press on remastering/remaking their old games.

I still haven't gone back to FF4 since I played it last after it came out. Honestly I don't think I will. I'm done with it.

Not hate, just tapped out. I have played almost every version out there, even though I always found the game pretty middling. The Pixel Remaster simply wasn't enough to give me the juice to replay it again to completion.

I'm excited for FF5 and 6 though.

I'm kinda with you overall. I reviewed the Pixel Remaster for Nova Crystallis but I'm not sure I'd have gone through the whole thing otherwise.

Stoked for V and VI!

Not me. I'm full bore into this still. Working on cocatrice summon as I have the others. Finally picked up Artemis Bow, too. Got a handful of rares to go for after this.

I put FF IV on hold to finish Tales of Arise, but I beat that, and now I'm gonna continue finishing FF IV until Voice of Cards comes out.

I wanna hear from somebody who loves the 3D version of FFIV and how they think the Pixel Remaster stacks up

Yes they're two very different games, I know—but still

2D FF4 was always bottom tier for me, and 3D was top tier. The 2D version is likely the version I would most recommend due to it simply playing so much better than the other 2D versions, even if I'd prefer a nice remaster of the 3D version for UI and frame rate stuff.

Battles are like 2.5x-3x the speed of the PSP version, basically. I dig the look and live the sound. Every enemy not on the moon needs their HP doubled but that is the nature of 2D FF4 sadly.

I love FF4, it's one of the games that got me into gaming in general - but it's easily got the least replay value of these original 6 FFs. So I can see things slowing down there, especially since the Pixel Remaster removed the newer content. Still was a joy to revisit, though.

That's one of the things I find so fascinating about the Free Enterprise mod, it makes FF4 into a massively replayable game.

This comes out October 21. Maybe it can help tide us over if FFV is not out before then. I've never actually played any of the SaGa games, but I really liked FF2, and people ITT were saying that SaGa is kind of like that game, so my interest is piqued.

Update went through for FF IV. They fixed the shadows and attack animations, among other things. Curious if they got the forest tile, lol

SaGa takes a lot of concepts that started in FF2. Those concepts developed over decades, so the first two SaGa games are still dated. SaGa 3 is kind of a normal RPG. The DS remakes of 2 and 3 are basically new games (especially 3).

Getting one of the later ones on sale is a better into, IMO, unless you want short and breezy experiences. Romaning SaGa 2, 3, SaGa Frontier, and Scarlet Grace are all meaty as fuck. (I'd say Grace > SF > RS2 > RS3)

They did, as far as I've read.

FF IV update notes:

  • The drop rate for specific monsters dropping summoning magic and the "Pink Tail" item has been improved.

  • It is now possible to buy the item "Siren" from certain shops.

  • Adjustments have been made to the probability of preemptive strikes, surprise attacks and back attacks triggering.

  • The command "Row" is now not selected during auto-battle.

  • The following bugs have been fixed:
    - Issue with a weapon sometimes being swung an incorrect number of times when selecting the "fight" command.
    - Issue with incorrect visual and sound effects being played when attacking with some weapons, such as the Sword of Legend.
    - Some monsters did not have their shadows setup correctly.
    - The time between the battle starting and the first actions being taken was not functioning correctly for both enemies and allies.
    - Under specific circumstances, a different enemy to the one selected would be attacked.
    - Under specific circumstances, the party formation would sometimes become incorrect when new party members joined.
    - Fixes to several images.

FFIII finished. What an upgrade over the first two. Final team ended up being two Ninjas, a Sage, and a Devout. While the final stretch of dungeons is definitely a marathon, it does have a certain epic feel to it, to see these four little fat onion kids from the beginning go beyond the impossible and fight the living incarnation of nothing while all the enemies get bigger and scarier. It's got a cool vibe, definitely helped by the epic soundtracks to the Crystal Tower, Eureka, and the World of Darkness.

On to IV, which I guess just got some fixes, so lucky timing on my part!

For the drop rates, it looks like they changed the summons and pink tails to the second rarest drop instead of the rarest.

Hummingway home has sirens for sale for 3000.

Okiedoke. No 'floating' animation just a shadow. I'm kind of okay with that, V or VI didn't have animated sprites did they? Either way the shadow does look better.

It seems like a bunch of enemies are still missing their shadows. Or maybe not. Also, a bit disappointed if they really don't plan on adding floating animations.

I don't know, that just feels wrong, but I guess understandable *shrug*.

lol at the improved drop rates and Siren buying. Now you have people who did it "the real way", and people who will do it the new, easy way.

Reminds me of that Titanfall achievement where you needed to get like 25 or 50 airborne kills and then they nerfed it to 5 because it was ridiculous.

But they did say they would make these changes, so good to those who waited, I guess (me included).

Actually they said they'd already made those changes 😂 but they lied.
