A Final Fantasy I comparison from the video:

Also, releases start next month:

I'm in on steam. Do they talk about the release schedule outside of starting next month? It seems fairly conservative of the original style overall while adapting the games for HD display. Thanks for sharing.

There are loads of people saying that a Switch version was announced but I don't see anything on that. Release date for August 1st. Probably a misunderstanding.

Please please please release a physical switch cart with these 6. Then all the mainline offline games would be playable on switch up to 12.
Yeah, I love my switch having FF7, 9 & 12 on it atm but god damn if I can get 6 on there it will be a FF monster!!!
So hopefully console release are in the works.

Hm i don't like how they always try to remove the darkness from FFVI to make it more kid's friendly somehow. palette seems way way brighter and cute here

I think most of hte changes from FF Dot are interesting on what they changed, and we can infer why. I really don't like the PR Setzer compared to FF Dot, or Edgar, and now I'm worried about Gogo.

I will get them on Steam, but I really hope they get a proper physical release for console. Those would be lovely on Switch <3

I'm glad they went back to the slightly darker color tone of the NES version of 1. The remakes were all a bit too bright.

Showing off the pixel art on its own.

And a screenshot from the end trailer. I'm not sure if it's any different from the one we've already seen.

oh wow they're really emphasizing narshe in the background, and by that i mean "wow i literally never noticed that despite playing ff6 dozens of times"
(but on the other hand it's like, i do tend to zone out in the intro so)

It wasn't there before. lol

EDIT: NM. They were just really hazy in the original.

The villains and characters in the battle screen look too small. Also we don't know if this will include the extras from the GBA/PSP/DS releases but probably not.

I am
Whatever you say I am

Ports have gotta be coming. Like. They just gotta. I refuse to believe these stick to PC and mobile.

They probably just don't want to commit to doing 24 or 30 releases. Doing 6 releases in a short window on three platforms is not easy. If these are well-received, they will definitely come to consoles.

I'd be worried about Switch, specifically, as the "pixel perfect" aspect of this makes handheld mode iffy. Hard to do everything at a different resolution unless they can just do a specific different integer scaling per pixel.

Wonder if these are gonna be monthly releases, they'd be able to have them all out by the end of the year in that case.

Cool that I'll finally be able to have the entire series on PC soon, at least until FFXVI comes out on PS5 and starts the waiting process all over again. With 2D versions of FFIII and FFIV even!

These are looking pretty good overall, so I'm in.

It's hilarious this wasn't announced for consoles. I wonder if they are waiting until all 6 are out and they release 1-6 together physically for $100 or something

Rosa's battle sprite looks so good. It's also more cohesive with how her sprite looked outside of battle in the original.

There is a pink onion kid now :)

These look OK. Not the same, sure, but OK. FFVI looked a bit too clean or bright from what I remember but it's also really different from the other games.

These look good actually. I wish there is a console version. Shame it is not a collection….

Side note: as the FF brand manager, Kitase didn't mention FF14 Endwalker and FF16 when asked about new titles…hmmm
Endwalker is fine. I'm willing to bet XVI is too. I trust Creative Business Unit III more than any other part of Square Enix outside of maybe Team Asano at this point.

Yeah, these look great. Lots of hullabaloo for nothing. It'd be nice for them to simply make the OG sprites and games available, untouched, as well. But that would make too much sense.

My two worries are:
- These might be the OG versions of the game underneath, without all the extras/fixes and updates applied to later versions of each game.
- These may actually be trapped on Steam/Mobile instead of being ported to consoles. Blows my mind.

Definitely looks better in motion. My main worry is that they aren't going to include any of the extra content that was added to the games across the many previous releases.

When they showcased Bartz's job sprites, they did have any of the extra jobs added to the GBA version, for example. I really would like this versions to be the definitive versions of the games.

Here's where I specifically defend the mobile sprites for Edgar and Setzer. Their PR versions are IMO worse than either the Mobile or FF Dot versions.

The massive empty space during combat is so distracting.

I don't care for these new FF6 sprites. They look worse than both the SNES game and the ones in the Dot Art book.

I guess they're trashing the higher-res pixel art monster sprites from the mobile port lol.

Still not a fan of all the extra space in battle scenes. At this point, I'm expecting none of thse games to have their GBA/PSP extras, though .

FFIII looks pretty okay, though. Getting a 2D remake of that makes this project worth it.

I think the intent is to have everything (terrain, battle backgrounds, spells, monsters, and characters) at the same pixel density, rather than separate resolution increase process for six or seven different sets of assets. IMO, that was the most valid complaint against the mobile ports-- I always defended how much nicer the monsters, battle backgrounds, and spells looked, but most people just seemingly dismissed them and focused only on full-brightness, full-screen screenshots of the character sprites.

I'm in the "the mobile ports weren't that bad" camp. They were nowhere near the worst of SEs ports (Chrono Trigger, DQ1, and DQ2 easily fall well behind), and had a lot going for them, including the GBA content that seems like it was dumped for these.

The Biggs/Wedge sprite is the original one, yeah? I wonder if they aren't finished with the minor characters or if they just don't intend to make new sprites for them at all. Seems like it would be odd if most of the NPCs are in a different style.

Okay like, now the FF6 main character sprites no longer match up with all the other sprites. So the shot with Terra in the Magitek on the cliff with Biggs and Wedge, she looks REALLY dumb and out of place.

Oh. Spell charges for Final Fantasy I, no GBA Jobs for Final Fantasy V.

Rip all the bonus dungeons and content added in later revisions of the games.

Considering how much of a backlash this got at e3 it's weird that they didn't have an English translation at the ready

mainly because the typesetting in that short trailer looked awful, I wanna see if there are plans to fix it

Funny thing is there's yet another group of people who came to the series a little bit late, who have been around long enough for their nostalgia to be based around how the spritework looked on PC emulators.
