I must admit, I've got a soft spot for the XIII series' tracks. "New Bodhum" is pretty good but it's no "Crazy Chocobo", or "Worlds Collide". More seriously, "Sunleth Waterscape"/"The Promise" and "Starting Over" are actually really good as well.
As much as I like Eyes on Me, there's just so many good vocal themes. Here's all the main themes.

Final Fantasy VIII - Eyes on Me

Final Fantasy IX - Melodies of Life

Final Fantasy XI - Rhapsodies of Vana'diel (Chorus is actual players who sent in voice recordings. I'm in it as Mutekimaru from Asura. It's cool that I'm technically in the credits of a mainline FF game.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVZgBk7_jTM

Final Fantasy XII - Kiss Me Goodbye (Purged from youtube completely apparently. Only covers and live recordings. First is just a FFXII ending video. Spoilers and Penelo talking over it. Second is a live recording.)

Chocobo Dungeon - Door Crawl

I THINK that's all of them. That took way longer than expected.

Edit: I forgot Dissidia
Massive Explosion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXNrVKwhP4Q
Also missing one of the better ones: "Touch It"
Melodies of Life -- Just the way they incorporated the song at the end, to uniting Garnet and Zidane, really pulled the heartstrings for me.
Yeah, that's legit

While the PS3/360 were getting the XIII trilogy, the Wii was getting a couple of low-key gems:

Final_Fantasy_Crystal_Chronicles_-_The_Crystal_Bearers.png

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. It felt a bit like a cross between FFXII and Twilight Princess, with a more Zelda-ish puzzle-solving and combat emphasis, and the presentation style of XII. The levitation powers were entertaining to use, and the world had that distinct "Crystal Chronicles spin-off" vibe that basically became canon once it got imported into FFXIV and polished up.

Final_Fantasy_Fables-_Chocobo%27s_Dungeon_Coverart.png

This was a fun little game as well, a Roguelike and also Rogue-lite, with a story that managed to pull off some decent moments and a soundtrack full of excellent remixes of classic tunes.

If you see these for cheap, consider checking them out if you haven't already. They kind of got lost in the sea of Wii releases, in a time when the mainline series on the other consoles was getting all the attention and controversy.

I love singing this one, i remember finding some simple sheet music shortly after the original trailer dropped.
i will definitely get the PC version of 15, and i'm sure i'll enjoy hearing this in any proper context.

Final Fantasy Type-0 - Beginning of the End/What Becomes of Us (One of the best pieces in the entire series, vocal or not)

this is also very good, i never finished the game though ,but i'd given the soundtrack a good listen, and this track just soars/

but my other favorite, and another one I did my best to learn how to play on piano,

Opera "Maria and Draco"

i never finished FF6 either, but when i first heard of this song, i search for the music. these days i can play it like 80% without looking at the sheet music, but i still have many sections to work on

Yeah. I wasn't sure if that was an actual theme for BE or if it was just for the Ariana event. There's quite a few boss tracks and area songs I left out too. That list was just end credits themes and songs that had a major presence throughout the games.
Yeah, it's not an actual theme for the game. Brave Exvius doesn't actually have an actual vocal theme, unfortunately.

I was LTTP on this one and ended up playing it on my Wii U. I would highly recommend it to any Final Fantasy fan. Like you said, the music is amazing, gameplay is fun, and it is overall very charming.

The interesting thing is that my only other experience with rougelikes at that point (especially grid/turn based ones) was Final Fantasy X-2 Last Mission.

First post! Hold me. That's really cool. I've only ever played the mainline FFs. *Goes to see where he can buy these*

Since the eighth entry is a hot topic, does anyone think either a FFVIII: HD Re-mix or FFVIII-2: The After Years could work?

Hell yes, I will take any FFVIII game I can get. A FFVIII-2 could be really cool where the previous party members might be running Balamb Garden, you have new students, new scorceress, go deeper with the lore and time travel, flesh out Laguna, his friends, crushes and family etc...there are so many possibilities!

It'd be great. Most of the cast kinda got jettisoned to focus on Squall and Rinoa in the later stages of the game. More time with the crew would be amazing. The world of FFVIII is so creative and interesting as well

I've always felt it's the art and sound design that ultimately make FFVIII so great, there's just nothing that looks like it. It has such a distinctive and unique feel to it; that smooth futuristic European vibe is incredible

Edit: Couldn't resist -

Just so good

I never played any of the later Crystal Chronicles games apart from (I think) Ring of Fates on 3ds, but it wasn't for long. Crystal Chronicles on the GameCube was one of my favourite multiplayer experiences of the generation, sure it was a bit of awkward to get going, but since me and all my friends had GBAs and the requisite cables it was pretty breezy to set up. I'd love to get together and play it again but it's hard to get people together for these kinds of things these days unfortunately.

I'm not sure we'll ever see something properly new done with FF8 ( I mean, it was a huge hit back in the day, but I don't think it has the same wide cultural reach and therefore commercial potential as 7), but I'd love to see it a PS4 port like 7&9, it's such a joy to relieve these adventures without the tedium of PSone era gameplay.

Is the PS4 version of 7 better than the steam version or is it the same? I know the 9 port is amazing but I figured that 8 and 7 both just basically allowed you to up the resolution.

8's music on Steam is a mess tho and needs a workaround.

My first post here, hey everyone!

This game was deeply confusing. On the one hand, I remember having fun with it, I remember that it looked pretty good compared to some other Wii titles, I remember that I liked it. However, I don't remember a single scene (or detail) from it. It's the most forgettable title I've played in the whole franchise. It's this franchise's Thor 2: The Dark World.

Hi folks! Huge FF fan here, I run thelifestream.net, which is a VII-centric site with a small but fairly active community. We have translations of the On the Way to a Smile novellas, some of the Ultimanias, and also Audiobooks on our YouTube channel.

Looking forward to the Paris Games Week conference on the off-chance we get some small VII-remake update and to discussing FF here with all of you aswell.

I know XIII gets a lot of hate (personally it's in my top 5), but jesus the soundtrack is amazing.

Imo this song is Dancing Mad/One Winged Angel levels of hype and epicness

As much as I love FFVIII (favorite game in the series by a country mile, VI is a distant second), the ending was so perfect that I wouldn't want it disturbed. The entire ending FMV was the stuff of legend, so amazing to see everything come together into that much payoff.

Glad someone else enjoyed Chocobo Dungeon. It's a solid game across the board, and before Distant Worlds picked up a few key songs, the best versions of them were the remixes in this game.

Great song, though I wasn't a fan of the final boss overall. Still love the game.

Wish I could link to the final boss theme of Lightning Returns, but there's spoilers right in the title of the song. It is a masterpiece though, 13 minutes of divine catastrophe. And the boss was a hell of a fight, might be my favorite fight in the whole series.

FFXIII has a great soundtrack, that much is borderline uncontested. And regarding FFXV's requirements, it's pretty much what everyone expected, right? Those requirements don't sound unreasonable.

I remember a decade ago having a dream what a game called "Final Fantasy versus VIII" existed

I remember the title screen was like FF7, black background, but the title and logo with new game and continue under it

So much VIII love in here... my heart is full ;~;
Seriously. I've never seen a topic so overwhelmingly positive about VIII that wasn't centered around VIII(My anniversary thread was mostly positive) and it's wonderful.

Also nice avatar! Is it from Dissidia Omnia?

I'm not a huge fan on the idea of a sequel mainly because I don't know that I trust SE to write a good followup without ruining something about the original but if I were to see a sequel I would want it to be focused on Seifer much like that prank from years ago teased on an old gaming website. In fact I would say split the lead between Seifer and Quistis with Squall and Rinoa playing whatever important side role they need to but the two leads could really get some deeper focus.

Final Fantasy VII - What is this Godoh fight, I got it down to 3000, then it shot back up to 5000 with its Cura spamming. I guess I'll have to come back overleveled.

Btw, is there a known bug where the text or other visual elements get garbled when playing on the Vita?

All the FF8 love --- my heart is full. Honestly I feel like people in old forums (pre-ERA, you know where I mean) kinda just jumped on the bandwagon of hating FF8 because a lot of the people who posted there did, so it never got the love it deserved. But alas we RESET.

Yes FF8 had faults, but story wise, I feel it appealed to a whole new range of people back in the day. I for one, never thought of videogaming as a form of art and story telling until after I played this game.

With that said, about the remake etc. I've read before that one of the producers at SE said something like how games from this generation (PS1 Final Fantasy titles) would need to be remade properly, so I have my hopes up for a Final Fantasy 8 remake in the distant future. Honestly I will be ok with a 3-hour full length CG movie remake, like Kingsglaive, of Final Fantasy 8. I feel like they could tell the story well in that time. Of course, a full remake would be better and you bet I will practically give them all my money for it!

Oh hey nice to see you made it over here too!

I don't even remember how I beat Godo but I'm sure I was overlevelled and I think that's the simplest way to do it.

I finished Final Fantasy IV the other day. I wanted to attempt playing through all the games this year for the 30th anniversary, but I doubt I can do that now with it being the end of October and I also want to play a Kirby and Mega Man this year as well since those franchises also have big anniversaries this year. I also can't find my copies of Final Fantasys VI and VII and I need a new PS2 to play X, X-2, and XII not to mention I need a PS4 for XV. I think I might be able to VII and IX for the rest of the year, but that's it.

For me, biggest problem with the PS4 version is a music bug where the current location's song starts over after each battle. If they'd patch this (which they did on Steam, eventually), I'd love to play it. It'd be especially nice to control it via the analogue stick, finally, instead of the d-pad.

As it is, you need to be a big fan of the first 20 seconds of the overworld theme, because that may be all you ever hear of it. Seems like a small thing, but I really wish they'd patch it...

Spontanously decided to buy Lightning returns for less than a tenner. Did I make a mistake?

It really depends on how you feel about the other two games and that you make sure you don't go in with a bunch of expectations. I went in with low expectations and enjoyed what I got; I found the battle system, environment and atmosphere, and music really enjoyable. I didn't really enjoy the doomsday clock though.

Not a huge fan of XIII and XIII-2. Music was very good and combat was decent as well. Expectations for Lightning returns are really low. If the gameplay is good, I'd already get my money's worth I guess.

I wasn't sold on FF13 though I didn't have any particular ill feelings about it but Lightning Returns is a different beast with an incredible gameplay system handled by Tri-Ace and a much more dynamic, upbeat game overall. The only thing dragging it down is the story but it wouldn't be FF13 without it.

The soundtrack is also very different, a very fresh take on Final Fantasy music:

LR is probably the stupidest in the trilogy but this whole trilogy is stupid so you really have nothing to lose if you enjoyed the combat and music in the other games. This one has a lot more exploration too if that helps.

RIP my FF 30th anniversary playthrough thread. :(
I didn't get to even half of the games I wanted to, anyway. This year was insane for games.
