I mean, there's not much to say about it except speculating about the next parts. It's still my GOTY by a landslide.

It was brilliant and totally delivered. Everyone is just finished with it. More time to finish quickly due to pandemic as well.

And it burned extremely brightly. It seemed like most of front page of this site was final fantasy for quite a while.

Game was amazing. Straight 9.5/10

But why would still be the hot topic? This doesn't make sense. The game had 0 post release content.

There's only room to talk about a game if it bombed. Controversy makes for plentiful conversation. The problem is, from what I understand, they absolutely nailed it.

Thus, silence. Cant whine about something that:

1. Isnt even truly finished
2. Is actually a solid game

🙃

The spoiler discussion thread seems to be on the front page regularly - but also yeah it was three months ago and people move on to the next big thing.

Personally I love FF7:R, I talked about it LOADS after clocking it - just cos I talk about it less now doesn't mean anything.

When the whole ga.. story is finished then I will get the collection, well if it's worth it. When the next episode drops that will determine how the future parts are handled. Gear, levels, loot carried over?

What exactly happened with this game? It had YEARS of hype built up around it, we were all waiting for it to blow us away, and after playing it, I'd mostly say it delivered. The biggest gripe I personally had with it was it felt way too padded out, and by the end of the 35 hours or so of playtime ; I just wanted it to be over with. Perhaps it was the device ending that turned people sour on it.

There is a lot going around in the world OP, that includes the next gen excitement.

If the game mostly delivered, then what are you looking for? Who did it sour? Did it sell badly?

We waited for it, drooled all over it, played it, loved it and moved on.

That's probably because entertainment is quickly consumed and people move on to the next big games. It's rare for single player games to stay in the spotlight.

I myself am waiting for a Series X version before I play it.

I know others that don't want to play it until all the parts are released (lol).

If anything, forums like this are guilty of talking too much about games well after release.

We're in a consume and keep it moving culture. People can only donate so much headspace to Final Fantasy before the next thing on the hype train pulls up like Last of Us 2, Cyberpunk or whatever other games are coming down the pipeline. Same happens with big streaming shows. Binge watch Mandalorian and Witcher, let it digest for a few weeks then its onto whatever is coming next.

And with what's been happening in the world this year, how much mental headspace can you really give a game? It's piece of entertainment providing a temporary escape from the insanity around you.

This is nothing new. Discussions around TloU2 is already dieing down and that game isn't a month old yet.

Unless it's a new BR or Minecraft 2, you won't see people talking about it in 6 months.

It's funny that a thread about this has already 5 pages in less than an hour.

Mostly because of it t being 1/8th of the original game's story, and the Nomura-fication of said story.

I think Dunkey said it best. "In the original FFVII, you grind through the battles to get to the story. In the Remake, you grind through the story to get to the battles."

Midgar, With Love
Many people played it. Many people who played it generally liked or even loved it (though some, of course, did not). Also, the world is pretty much on fire.

The discourse around Part 1 will regain momentum as we gain information on Part 2. In the meantime, JRPG threads will reference it. Final Fantasy threads will spark essays about it. And most other threads here will largely ignore it -- which is kind of natural even when the world isn't on fire.

Because much like the game, the hype peaked early and then started to trial off until it became a chore to play, I mean talk about.

Germany...
I sold my version today. It was fun while it lasted but that's it. Even think that the first half is by far better then the second half. Fighting the Airbuster was my favourite part of the game. The further the games preceeds the crazier it gets. I don't feel like there anything we need to talk about - the game is done. Part II is probably due 2050 - so we have loads of time for people to discover the game.

Its a single player game that isn't all that long. Most people have beaten it and moved on. It also hasn't had any sales, meaning those waiting on a price drop haven't gotten to jump in yet.

This seems like an arbitrary requirement in order to judge the importance of the game.

This is a whole new way to dis a linear single player game, with barely any side content, "In just 3 months, most people stoped playing, and barely anyone even watches it on twitch!"... Almost like people finished the game and moved on. :O

One thing I noticed is the game never even received a patch. I tried checking it out again the other day and it's still at version 1.0

Can you elaborate? I'm not entirely sure what you mean.
Yes, as far as the overall story goes, this was just part 1, but it's not paced as a part 1, it's paced as a complete game. An 8 hour section made into an 35-40 hour game. If you get 4 more of these and play it as a one complete game at once it's gonna be a 40 hour game drawn out into a 150 hour one.

I'm just saying, I wouldn't look at that as a complete, true version, but more like a marathon. Unless you're into that.

Still waiting for the day one patch.

I'm a good chunk of the way through it, actually, but with summer heat and PS4 pro fan noise... I'll be finishing the playthrough on PS5.

I feel that Animal Crossing stole a lot of its thunder also (when it comes to the general public). Even when the FFVIIR release hype was at its zenith, Twitter and other social networks were still Animal Crossing central.

AC is way more social media friendly than FFVIIR as well.

Had it been some interesting semi open world game with tons of content and quests people would still be talking about it, similar to FF15. But as it stand this game is nothing special outside of the nostalgic factor. I love it for its characters and battle system, but everything else is kinda forgettable...

VII Remake basically had all of April and May to itself in gaming, aside from the ongoing Animal Crossing craze.

It was played, replayed, streamed, memed, and discussed to DEATH already 2 months ago.

I kinda wish there was a patch to update all those poor textures... which is a minor complaint. The combat and soundtrack were amazing. I liked the characters as the game went on. The story really depends on where they go with the series tbh. I'm hopeful gameplay wise of the next iterations but less optimistic about the story

No matter how long your single-player AAA game builds steam on the hype train, once it's out, it's out. And then people play it and they're done, and they move on to the next thing.

Unless the game has high replayability, is continuously updated, or has a popular multiplayer component, nobody is going to be talking about it anymore even 1 month later, let alone 3.

Perhaps, several generations ago, when there were long waits between one must-have game and the next, it was different. But there are so many choices now, with more coming every day. There is always something new and shiny coming next week. That's just the reality of gaming today. Or movies. Or TV. Or...basically all entertainment...

I'm playing it at the moment and I LOVE it! It's beautifully made, it's respectful of the original, the way they expanded Midgar and the characters personnalities is fitting and THE MUSIC IS SO RAD.

I mean, this moment alone (boss spoiler for Chapter...4? 5?) was jaw-dropping. The way the boss is hyped during half an hour and then the kick perfectly in sync with the UI displaying... beautiful. Not to mention the nostalgia being quite a big factor as well.

Great game so far, I'm at
Don Corneo's tournament, or rather I just finished it as I beat the haunted house
