Not sure if serious. The tip probably came from the Mercedes camp and was given to RBR who decided to ring the FIA dinner bell.

Because it's funny?

Mercedes supposedly tipped off Red Bull to the fuel flow sensor trick as they were too chicken shit to do anything; according to Marko.

This new oil TD was issued by the FIA of their own accord.

Missing Toto knew in advance that this was coming. Mercedes have been outted once again for the serial cheaters they are.

Ferrari's straight line advantage (with a fresh PU) over Honda reduced to one tenth.

Came back from London late last night so I just caught up on quali. Funny to see Ferrari's engine still being great despite Red Bull's continued calls at cheats (shame on the press that fell for it), while Red Bull probably managed to take the attention away from some new technique they're employing themselves. Should be a fun race.

Why would Mercedes be too chicken shit to complain themselves?
It doesn't make sense that it was a merc idea and that they asked RB to get the clarification its also not complaining its just a clarification. Nobody wants to protest anyone.

Entirely possibly Honda had some ideas themselves about what ferrari might be upto.

Even with the clarifications, if you're sure you cant be caught, the clarification doesn't do anything.

Red bull knew their wings were bending and were designed to bend, but they also knew they'd pass any test the fia tried because they were never going to hang 200kgs on each end.

I find the whole thing funny around the Ferrari engine debacle. So because Mercedes have been slipping with engine development Ferrari are cheating? Because Honda/RBR are only quick in a straightline at high altitude and Ferrari arent, Ferrari are cheating? Mercedes are actually 3rd fastest here over one lap, but James Allison thinks its "interesting" Ferrari are only just narrowly quicker in a straight line, what about his own team? They are blaming high altitude but that doesnt apply to Ferrari? Different downforce levels dont apply either it would seem? Truly pathetic from the British based teams, and it's no surprise Sky and the BBC have lapped it up.

Not sure what this means in the context. Red Bull found themselves with a great car suddenly, it's either because they brought specific updates or setup changes or because something is hampering Ferrari and Mercedes (altitude, tyres, bad setup due to limited test with the track being wet on friday, etc.). It's just funny that Red Bull accused Ferrari of cheating through "anonymous" reports to the press, and now they are suddenly leading without Ferrari losing power. Since Ferrari could only ever beat Mercedes because of the cheats for many, surely now RBR must be cheating too? :P

I wonder what strat Merc and Ferrari are going to go for.

Haven't looked at the tire life so far, better to undercut or go long and have a fresher set?

Remember Hulkenburg saying that if they braked where Ricciardo broke they would end up in the moon. Rofl

Track position will easily beat the slight advantage of a 1-3 lap fresher tyre. Case in point Vettel seemed faster than Lewis by sticking to 1-1.5 seconds for the longest time but couldn't really do much.
