Article behind a paywall unfortunately

Some text posted by studyguy
A day before rioters stormed Congress, an FBI office in Virginia issued an explicit internal warning that extremists were preparing to travel to Washington to commit violence and "war," according to an internal document reviewed by The Washington Post that contradicts a senior official's declaration the bureau had no intelligence indicating anyone at last week's pro-Trump protest planned to do harm.

A situational information report approved for release the day before the U.S. Capitol riot painted a dire portrait of dangerous plans, including individuals sharing a map of the complex's tunnels, and possible rally points for would-be conspirators to meet up in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and South Carolina and head in groups to Washington.
"As of 5 January 2021, FBI Norfolk received information indicating calls for violence in response to 'unlawful lockdowns' to begin on 6 January 2021 in Washington. D.C.," the document says. "An online thread discussed specific calls for violence to include stating 'Be ready to fight. Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being kicked in, and blood from their BLM and Pantifa slave soldiers being spilled. Get violent. Stop calling this a march, or rally, or a protest. Go there ready for war. We get our President or we die. NOTHING else will achieve this goal."

They thought the rioters were all talk and posed no threat because they're White.
Multiple law enforcement officials have said privately in recent days that the level of violence exhibited at the Capitol has led to difficult discussions within the FBI and other agencies about race, terrorism, and whether investigators failed to register the degree of danger because the overwhelming majority of the participants at the rally were White conservatives fiercely loyal to the President Trump.

Even the white surpremacists are tired of the media and politicians trying to call what they were doing a protest. This is why its been able to get as bad as it is. They kept toning down and softening their message and intent at every step for years. Now you got people acting surprised that this shit was going to happen because there was a concerted political effort to hide it.

Major news sites should be removing paywalls in this time of crisis so information, real information, can flow, instead of being locked behind money requests while the fascism supporting organizations spread their seditionist bullshit freely with no barrier

They all talk about intelligence failure, but if those dickheads wouldn't have got into congress if the cops didn't let them in, even with their shitty intel.
We're gonna keep dancing around this issue, but I think it's by far the most important point.

Because you can arrest all the q-anon people that you want, but if you have a police force who is that friendly with white supremacist and fascists, you gonna get the same effort from them next time.

I can read the whole article just fine, although it's the only WaPo article I've read, so I probably haven't hit whatever "free article" limit they have

If you really want to dodge the paywall I recommend a javascript blocker addon for your browser of choice.

Reports like this is why I'm OK with House holding onto impeachment articles until we are a bit deeper into Biden's term. Not only will it give time to focus on the confirmations, covid relief, ect.. but it will also give time for the results of some investigations to become known. I have no doubt that as this unfolds it's going to expose Trump and some members of the GOP even futher.

I imagine the FBI produces tons of reports constantly. It's a matter of whether the reports receive real attention from those basing decisions off them. That will be what an investigation digs at - to see if there was intentional downplaying, sabotage, institutional racism, etc.

I don't think they commonly produce reports that say, "We have a mountain of evidence that these specific people are going to attack the United States Capital at this specific time".

In Germany we call that "blindness in their right eye". And yeah, you either continuously vet your institutions for fascists or you end up with pro-fascist institutions.

Looks like our allies were right, that this likely was a coup supported by people in federal law enforcement. We're probably days away from reports of open supporters of this movement being named who controlled procedure.

We should be thanking our lucky stars that these swine are collective too fucking stupid to effectively orchestrate a full-scale assault like is being threatened for the coming weeks. And they leave huge paper trails, too. Hopefully the FBI takes these threats seriously now and starts making arrests at rally points before these hogs even make it to DC.

You'd have to be a fucking idiot to think this wasn't a possibility, so anyone claiming "they didn't have an inkling to maybe be prepared for something like this" is a disingenuous ass.

And...

The Capitol Police had a plan in case counter-protesters showed up - to form a defensive line between the two - but I haven't found info on any contingency plans for MAGA side of the equation. Figures.

Washington Post said:
Rep. Maxine Waters of California asked where Capitol police would allow people to gather, and if they would be allowed on the Capitol plaza, the brick and paved area immediately around the building that leads to walking paths to the offices of lawmakers.

In the back of Waters's mind was a 2010 incident when protesters had gathered against a vote on Obama's health-care plan. Some surrounded and followed then Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) back toward his office, hurling racial epithets. One even spit on him.

In an hour-long conversation on New Year's Eve, Waters said Sund told her he had a plan for keeping protesters far from the building. They would be corralled beyond the plaza, in a grassy area east of the Capitol, she recalled. If counterprotesters showed up, his officers would form a line between the two groups, and as a precaution for lawmakers, Capitol security would direct all members of Congress and their staffers to travel by the network of underground tunnels that connect the Capitol with House and Senate office buildings.

Even further indication that its best to not even show up to this shit to counter protest, just let them hang themselves. Don't even be there to give them an out to shift the blame else where. They're already throwing the ones that got caught under the bus and calling them antifa as it is and it gained NO traction because there was no one else there.

Nothing to get concerned about here.
