My initial impression of Dark Souls 2 was heavily colored by everything I had read for years regarding the game. By the time I played it, I found myself making the same arguments for why the game was bad that I had read countless times . But sometime later it dawned on me that I didn't believe most of the complaints I claimed to have, and that the "problems" others had weren't problems I had at all. Ultimately I came to love the game, so much so that it's my favorite in the series. What sucks is knowing that I avoided the game for as long as I did because I was sure I would feel the same way most of the community does.
Makes me wonder what other games I've forgotten about that I've written off due to negative impressions that I might enjoy or even adore.
