It's crazy that Yokai Watch 2 was basically the best-selling title on the console seeing its current popularity.

Come on just 45 more for Monster Strike!!!

And this just drives home what a monster Yokai Watch was. And then Level 5 flushed it down the drain

Your point still stands and I'm just being pedantic, but if you're combining Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls with Psychic Specters, you should probably combine Sun and Moon with Ultra as well, making it the second best-selling title.

If Yo-kai watch handled their franchise better they'll be at smash by now.

I'm glad that Pokemon XY sold better than all the other Pokemon games on the 3DS. Yeah, it had an advantage as the first ones on the system, but regardless, I liked them MUCH better than OR/AS and Su/Mo so I'll take that as a win.

Tomodachi Life up at #16... The Switch has a market for a new one, I just hope Nintendo does it. Miitopia getting a port is cool and all (well, the price tag isn't cool lmao), but I hope porting that rather than Tomodachi Life is because they're working on a new installment of the latter.

From fucking up with Yokai in Japan and pissing away their sweetheart deal with Nintendo for localization/distribution/promotion of their games, for a version of Yokai 4 that sold 4 copies.

Y level 5?

Sad to see Yokai Watch fall so much :(
I take it we'll never get Yokai Watch 4 localized anytime soon? I really wanted Yokai Watch 3 kingdoms out west.

Pokémon XY at the top where it belongs.

I forgot there was a Monster Strike 3DS game, did that even come to America? 3DS had quite a few enhanced home versions of mobile games that you don't quite see anymore unless it's just the mobile game on Switch.

Also Yo-Kai Watch 2 is a legit great game. If you've never played the series it's more DQMonsters than Pokémon. The game is loaded with content and looks fantastic. I tried Yo-Kai Watch 3 but fell off of it because it was very slow in those first few hours. I'm sure the series will bounce back with Yo-Kai Watch 4 tho-uh oh...

It's still mental how mishandled the Yokai Watch series was. The property was literal lightning in a bottle.

Level-5 was great at their business once. Several popular franchises that just stopped selling.

Still can't understand what happened.

Level 5 was constantly finding hits to quickly run them to the ground.

Good number of 2015 games charting on that. Feels like the 3DS lost a lot of steam in the west around then.

Yokai Watch was huge! Key word in that sentence? Was. I think it's easy to forget now, but this list is a great reminder.

After archived huge success on DS and 3DS, why Level-5 dropped the the ball on Switch. They thought Switch would flop or something.

Crazy that Fire Emblem isnt in the list

Awakening is one of the best games I've played.

Echoes is amazing and I'm loving Fates so far.

Thought FE would be big in Japan.

Those people were always wrong, but for a brief period it was absolutely toe-to-toe in Japan.
Honestly im not even sure at this point if Pokemon itself could kill Pokmeon if it wanted to loool. The franchise is immortal

The best selling FE game in japan is:

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem Total: 776.000

All the way back on the super Nintendo. Its possible it can make it there again but thats the ceiling there

I owned 5 of those. Crazy that 2/3s are just 4 franchises only. DQ, Pokemon, MH and Yo-Kai cleaned up. Crazy that Yo-Kai burned out so much though.

I got to say it feels weird that Dragon Quest didn't get a main line entry like the DS did. XI did pretty great overall, but it's weird as it feels like 3DS should have had a bigger preformer.

IX really messed with how remember/assumed things went.

I'm surprised Nintendo haven't announced Tomodachi Life 2 for Switch, yet. Pretty much, every single 3DS million seller is avaliable on Switch now, out for a few exceptions.

So this isn't counting the Animal Crossing rerelease right? Because with that AC is the top seller with over 5M iirc.

What happened? Just oversaturation?

I think it was a mix of over-saturation and focusing on the wrong elements. YW always had a wordplay/pun theme going, but by the third game new Yokai designs were mostly based on that rather than Yokai legends. The anime also started focusing more and more on bizarre humor, and the anime was what made Yokai Watch blow up in Japan in the first place. They tried to revamp it into a more serious show, but it was very half-hearted (Just compare Dark Side with the Gegege no Kitaro reboot, which was also a Yokai focused series aimed at kids, but ended up with much higher tv ratings).
