Family Matters holds up better than the other two. I watched some episodes a few weeks ago

Not that I'm aware of but I always hope that one of these announcements will have it preserved. It's a shame that it's being lost to time.

I've honestly given up on it since it was something I noticed what feels like ages ago. Probably the only reason to purchase the series on disc (not sure if the digital versions are any better)

Speaking of weird 90s gimmicks, were any of these part of the Salem crossovers from Sabrina?

Cody is the one who was in love with his cousin and lived in the backyard right

I recently had to translate a bunch of Step by Step episodes and I thought the one where Cody is writing a '40s-style mystery novel for his creative writing class was pretty damn good. It was a nightmare to translate because it was pun after pun after pun, but it was pretty damn funny.

Totally agree with the sentiment that Family Matters holds up the best. I've been rewatching the first season and it's still really funny.

Yeah, it's not on any major streaming services. Not sure if there's a cable contract preventing it at the moment.

It (along with the rest of these) was on Hulu just last week. Not sure why this didn't come along with the rest.

Are older sitcoms that follow the formula where there is a conflict and sad music plays followed by a lesson being learned with heartwarming music before the show ends as bingable as more modern shows where there is less drama?

I always loved that horrible green screen shot of the Step by Step family waving on the roller coaster in the show's intro.

Also, the badly keyed water around it when the chopper shot zooms out. Hilarious stuff.

Family Matters' first season is always interesting to me, since Steve wasn't introduced until later (I think they did some reshoots and inserted him into some earlier episodes for syndication, but I don't think he showed up into the proper series run until near the end), and it's so clearly meant to be such a different show than what it became once Steve became a regular.

Step by step copied Full House beat for beat, even down to the little white girl being more affectionate to the long hair friend/uncle type rather than her own dad.

Real talk though, I watched these growing up but any time I've bumped into a random episode since turning like 20 or so I've realized they're... not good.

Family Matters does hold up best. But the latter seasons, wow, things get weird.

Remember when Cody got written out of Step By Step because the actor totally beat his wife?

step-by-step.fandom.com

Cody Lambert

Cody Lambert is a recurring character on ABC/CBS family comedy Step by Step. He is portrayed by Sasha Mitchell. Frank's nephew, who appears as a recurring cast member in season one, then is upgraded to a regular character in season two. Sporting a crew cut and a Valley teen accent and vocabulary...

Cody was written out of the series after the show's fifth season after legal problems that began with Mitchell's 1995 arrest on accusations of domestic violence by his first wife Jeannette Robbins, In 1996, Mitchell was convicted of beating his wife. He was given three years' probation and ordered to perform community service and attend counseling classes for spouse abusers. After violating his probation, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail. Cody returned as a guest star for one episode in season seven.

How kind of the producers to rehire the domestic abuser for a walk-on cameo. What the fuck?

The only other thing I remember about Step By Step is how much I was convinced that Suzanne Somers and Patrick Duffy were hooking up IRL. That chemistry. It was too much.
