Any mod recommendations that you would recommend to newcomers? What are the essential mods to download, etc.?

I was thinking of downloading the followers Niner, and Willow, as well as Enhanced Blood Textures for a start.

Use Mod Organizer and not Nexus Mod Manager.
github.com

Patch with the 4GB Patcher if you're running the steam version: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62552/
(Not Needed for GOG)

Several Mods also require the script extender (NVSE): http://nvse.silverlock.org/
And this extended NVSE Plugin:https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58277
And the mod configuration menu (MCM): https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/42507/

---
ACTUAL MODS

Fov Slider: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55085
Onetweak: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59266
(This is mostly so it plays nice with modern computers, multiple monitors, etc)
4k Hud remaster: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/64102
NMCS Texture Pack: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43135/
Anti Crash: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/

I've never really been a fan of the ENBs that slather on post-processing and stuff. But those are out there as well. So you see most of these are kinda more QoL than actual additions.

As for stand-alone mods, New California I think is pretty good: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/45138/?

Thank you for this, convinced me to re-install and play through again!

Heh, no problem. If it helps at all, this is (a portion of) my load order than I used back when I played it. Wish I could track down the whole screen, but only have this crop..

I feel like I'm pretty good with computers but mods that I can't just download and install, I've had issues with. Specifically NV I had all these mods downloaded and an organizer as screen capped here but I couldn't get the mods to run.

And iirc I couldn't even find any kind of guide that put it together step by step.

Have a buddy that I kind of consider a master modder when it comes to New Vegas that's been putting together a series on YT over the last few months that's more current than a lot of what's out there right now. He touches on a lot of great mods for NV that help with stability, UI, QoL. I recommend checking him out if you're looking to for some of the better stuff available to NV.

Some of my favorite mods right now are

Tale of Two Wastelands - Integrates the entire world of Fallout 3 into New Vegas, giving you the option to play through both maps under 1 title using the stability and UI enhancements of New Vegas to boot.

Darnified UI Essential UI font enhancement for New Vegas

The Someguy Series A great series of quest lines made by Someguy that adds additional characters, stories, etc. Can't recommend it enough

There's a ton of stuff out there for the game at this point, I would definitely scout Moddb and and the Mod Nexus and find what appeals to you.

All I can contribute is wait for Brave New World by Dracomies (New Vegas Redesigned 4).

and

New Vegas Redesigned 3 (NVR 3).

Completely revoicing 100s of NPCs from scratch while modifying models, textures, NPC appearances and adding new questlines and dialogue. New Vegas Redesigned 3 is a nice stop gap while waiting.

Oh and Solid Project. That mod introduces several new gameplay mechanics like sprinting, jumping, first person animations, loot menu, item examination, etc. It got taken down the Nexus because the mod author was pissed for some reason, but it's still floating out there if you look.

I can help you get set up with some of the more obscure or overlooked mods that focus on immersion and new NPCs, including Outside Bets and 3DNPCs.
