The "small improvised explosive devices" were found in A4 postal bags, the Metropolitan Police said.

The Met's Counter Terrorism Command is treating it as a "linked series" and "keeping an open mind regarding motives".

No-one has been hurt, the force added.

The Compass Centre in Heathrow's grounds was evacuated after a package was reported to police at about 09:55 GMT.

The device set alight when staff opened the bag.

As a Londoner, im really thankful for all the hard work the Counter Terrorism people do.

Days like this make me scared to live here.

User Banned (1 Day): Inappropriate joke, previous ban for similar behaviour
After seeing a place charge £7 for a miserable looking salmon bagel I can understand why you might be tempted to bomb City Airport.

Holy shit, I don't want to imagine the death and destruction this would have caused had the Counter-Terrorism people not got there in time.

"The packages - all A4-sized white postal bags containing yellow Jiffy bags - have been assessed by specialist officers to be small improvised explosive devices," a spokesperson said.

"These devices, at this early stage of the investigation, appear capable of igniting an initially small fire when opened.

Let's not blow this out of proportion.

Fine, he can't be put in jail for it, but that doesn't mean we can't think he's an asshole for making light of what could have been a very serious situation. Let's not forget that even though it failed, someone plotted this.

Ok, I'll go and very solemnly think about that for a while and have no fun in life at all then. Sounds good.

You'd really have to have seen the state of the bagel to get where I'm coming from.

See us British folk laugh at it and get on with it, we don't live in constant fear
It would be a terrible shame to die before brexit though. I want to see how this shit ends

As a Londoner it's exactly this kind of situation you do make light of.

You will unfortunately have to believe therefore that most Londoners are arseholes ;)

I'm going into London to get food with some mates this weekend. One of the things that spook me most about London isn't the threat of bombs or anything, it's acid attacks. That shit fucking gets me SPOOKED.

Good that they found them but I feel like this is a bit non news unless the device is something way more complex but doesn't sound like anything major. Sure, testing the boundaries and someone did do it but let's not get carried away.

I thought it was a pretty good joke.

Tragedy was avoided...I don't see anything wrong with making light of the situation. Absurdist comedy is just that: absurd. It's something so absurd that it's not credible and funny as a result.

Tough crowd.

Three days for that? C'mon.

I am at the very station one of the bombs were found this morning, and I can tell you know one gives a shit.

All we care about is how long is it gonna take to get home tonight.

Can't say that some tiny explosive devices that cause the jiffy envelope they are contained in to start burning when they are torn open ranks as one my fears when flying.

This merits my derision not my fear.

I wasn't suggesting you need to feel fear, just posted a remark when up in the air quite a lot of thing less destructive on land can be deadly.

Can we even call it a bomb? It sounds less harmful than a firecracker.

Shouldn't an explosive device, by definition, be made to explode?

Was this a threat meant to do harm? Or was it gross mischief? I mean, if these packages were meant to be taken onto a plane, then we'd see some real harm. But there really are no details in the story.
