Honestly I wouldn't expect their campaigns to be too different, but we shall see.

Last weekend I decided to play EG1 again, and it is honestly better than I remembered. The only thing that hasn't aged well are the world map UI and... some of the foreign voices.

I absolutely adored the original and I'll definitely get it at some point but my backlog is really big right now.
How likely is it to release on console? Did the developers deny the game ever coming to consoles?

And that you can't speed up time >(

Evil Genius 2: World Domination Review

Evil Genius 2 makes good on its spy-movie supervillain concept with a challenging management sim that requires cunning and patience.

I gave it an 8 at my our publication, but an editor is currently giving it a final look before they publish. I think the game is far more refined than the original, and it actually makes good on the premise and style the game is going for.

Those scores are really scattershot, but it makes sense. I read some of the high and low scorer reviews and the game needs to click, then it's good, it seems. If you can't get in the Evil Mastermind mood, you won't have a good time.

Also, while berating IGN is old, I did notice that they had a hallway full of body bags in their base, when other players did not. Bodies everywhere was usually a sign something had gone terribly wrong somewhere, as enemy agents, as a rule, really shouldn't be getting too deep in your base.

One thing I noticed from all the reviews that nobody has talked up is that Evil Genius 2 has custom difficulty settings. While The Last of Us 2 didn't invent this, I am happy to see a not-AAA level game take that particular page from the accessibility book. It's a singleplayer game, after all, the the player do what they want. Or need as may be the case with accessibility.

It seems to be a slow, deliberate base builder that lack of long-term planning comes back to bite you in the ass. It also seems that seemingly funcional bases can spiral into doom.
I get it not being for everyone, but I have this exact itch to scratch right now.

This was sort of the case in the original too: the placement of important rooms like power stations and vaults was critical as later-game agents become more adept at evading your security and crippling your infrastructure/retrieving stealing your loot. You often had to replan your base to account for enemy capabilities and what equipment/traps your had available. If there's one difference with the original in this regard, it's that it forced you to do this once you moved to a new island, whereas you stay with the same one in 2.

I'm thinking a mid-game renovation might be a good idea anyway. Like making 1F look entirely innocent to ward off snooping investigators, then keep the evil stuff in the basement or upper levels.

I am really looking forward to seeing how floor transitions work. If you can have multiple transitions between the same floors and such. That way, I can make a "Things a casino might have" part of the first floor and "Things a casino probably doesn't have" corner of it. Like Doomsday Devices.

I didn't know this was a thing. Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius were 2 of my favourite games back when. Looking forward to this release.

It's kind of amusing, because some of those reviewer criticisms seem to be aspects the fans actually like about Evil Genius.

I suppose even the original was a game that either clicked quickly or never did though.

I had completely forgotten this was even being made let alone releasing today!

I loved the original and will buy this as soon as it launches as long as reviews are half decent.

Half-decent seems about right.

Bottom line the game rates high with people who like base building and micromanagement, and low with people who do not. Which, you know... yeah. Seems right.

for what is worth we have some critic reviews out
i'm buying at alunch as it is my style of game and i can also post some 1st impressions.

Sounds perfect, as long as it's similar to the original without huge technical issues I'm in.

So what are the odds of Shen Yu being DLC?

Somewhat unlikely, the Fu Manchu stereotype doesn't fly and he'd probably need big enough retooling that you might as well just make a new character. I think promoting more of the old Henchmen to Geniuses would make more sense (like Lord Kane, assuming he's not in 2 already).

Considering how super dated that design was even back when Evil Genius first dropped, I'm gonna go with "low"

Yeah thats what I figured. Dont really know if it could really be reworked he was my main back then and that was before I had been introduced to stuff like Charley Chan.

I wonder what the fifth Genius could even be. It seems like we've got the bases covered.

- Maximilian is the all-rounder with a higher minion cap.
- Red Ivan is the Muscle minion master, and can actually fight personally.
- Emma is the Deception minion master.
- Zalika is the Science minion master.

So, what can another Genius do? Do we need a Hank Scorpio type who's a good boss and has happier minions?

Lord Kane was also one of my faves.
