From leaked Case Files Edit : Correct me If I am Wrong , But I guess the Minimum Guarantee is Recoupable to Epic once the game reaches that target ? For example , Epic pays $80M as minimum Guarantee , Once BL3 reaches 80M , Epic recoups those money ? I think the Permenant cost that isnt...

Quick Q: Didn't they expect that all this would come out in discovery? I can't imagine they would be happy with it coming out but.... I dunno.

I'm sure Sweeney and co. were told in no uncertain terms that this sort of data would be made public should the case to progress to court, but I'm also sure they were confident Apple would yield and the information would stay behind closed doors, in no small part because some of it is rather damning (e.g. the meagre 7% conversion rate for freebie claimants -> paying customers).

Tim Epic to Yves Ubisoft about Division 2 fraud.

----

Dear Yves,

I'm writing to apologize for the shortcomings in our Epic Games store implementation and our Uplay integration.

In the past 48 hours, the rate of fraudulent transactions on Division 2 surpassed 70% and was approaching 90%. Sophisticated hackers were creating Epic accounts, buying Ubisoft games with stolen credit cards, and then selling the linked Uplay accounts faster than we were disabling linked Uplay purchases for fraud.

Fraud rates for other Epic games store titles are under 2% and Fortnite is under 1%. So 70% fraud was an extraordinary situation.

To stop the fraud, we disabled purchasing of Ubisoft games. We will make our best efforts to restore service as quickly as we can. This depends on (1) a real-time system for disabling refunded and fraudulent purchases on Uplay, and (2) anti-fraud improvements in Epic's service. This work will likely take at least 2 weeks to complete.

The fault in this situation is entirely Epic's, and all of the minimum revenue guarantees remain in place to ensure our performance.

I'm sorry for the trouble,

Tim Sweeney

That fraud number is crazy sounding.
It reflects a specific set of actors exploiting mechanisms that were discovered at that time. People need to remember that cheating/fraud/etc. on games is an enormous business for criminal actors, and they treat it as such. There will have been wholesalers selling methodology to "retail storefront" fraud groups, etc., and they would be looking to maximize revenue before the hole is closed.

Kyougar There's also this one wherein Phil expresses similar concerns to Sony about losing out on MTX revenue, as posted by Theorry

We do know from Tim's statements that they did not implement a similar playtime/revenue ratio deal as with Sony, but I don't think we know what they did agree to (if anything).

Is there an explanation for why so much stuff is coming to light? This almost reminds one of a data breach. A lot of this doesn't even seem relevant to the Apple case.

Also, can we expect a similar insight into Apple?

Considering Android is more popular than iOS (although that may not be the case on how many devices can actually run Fortnite) and it being open platform, they make a piddly amount there. But also goes back to the fact iOS owners are more likely to buy stuff on their platform than Android ("where everything is free").

Out of curiosity, are these actually "leaked" or are they deliberately publicly released as part of the court process? I'm just wondering how this hasn't been taken down yet if it was leaked, etc.

It's kind of ironic that mostly all the platforms that are walled gardens (the ones the are supposedly bad for consumers and companies) are the ones that are making bank. Whilst the open platforms (where piracy runs rampant) are really not pulling their weight despite their user bases size.

I think thats mainly because its not on the play store. Highly doubt a lot of kids would go out of their way to enable and install an APK
