I guess that explains a lot, but hopefully they offer an option without the Animal Crossing DLC for those who don't own the game to offset the licensing fees.

If this means Nintendo can get more games onto the service that's awesome.

I can imagine Square Enix wants to get paid for Mischief Makers, for instance, and Microsoft surely wants some money for their Rare catalog.

Well, if SEGA is the problem, why bother with Genesis games? Those can be bought for virtually nothing in every single platform.

Then make all 1st party Nintendo games regardless of console on the cheaper tier, as they are essentially "free" for Nintendo to include, and make the more expensive tier third party content.

Why do they even include the Sega games?
You can just buy the Sega Genesis collection... lol

I'm assuming it wasn't just for the launch titles (listed below) right? Will titles be added on a monthly basis?
Surely they weren't paid a fortune *just* for this list?
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Golden Axe
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • M.U.S.H.A
  • Phantasy Star IV
  • Ristar
  • Shining Force
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Shinobi 3
  • Strider

In the future they should just offer all platforms as additional add-ons, allowing you to create your own plan.

Personally have no interest in Genesis games. Disappointing Nintendo never gives the consumer any options. To be expected at this point.

Genesis is the worst part. I would like it cheaper and just get rid of Genesis.

Hard to believe given how Sega usually hands out their retro licenses to anyone for next to nothing

If they add games constantly, unlike the SNES/NES, then it might be worthy... if not... fuck it!

Just a hunch but I think NSO+ will flop hard.

I was legit excited about Sega being packaged with this but after the price announcement totally not worth it.

People do get they probably negotiated for N64 games while they were talking to third parties about genesis right? I'm expecting we'll get everything from Vc and more like the full Konami/Hudsonsoft lineup

This seems more like an assumption from her part rather than actual knowledge on this? Did she clarified if she actually knows this or if its only conjecture on her part?

Yeah, a la carte options would have been nice. I'd gladly skip the AC DLC and pay $10 less, for instance. But I suspect that would get complicated and Nintendo wants a single flat price.

I'll probably buy a year since I'll get a "discount" from having just renewed the standard plan. But if Nintendo doesn't improve a bit on the usual "drip feed" style of adding games, well...for that price, we should get more than 3 games every two and a half months.

(Totally fair on Sega's part to be concerned from the lack of advertising the VC got, though)

Honestly, I'd rather genesis wasn't included then. Or at least let me pay for the N64 service individually. That is some high level bulshit right there as far as pricing goes, and honestly it soured me on the whole NSO to the point that Im considering to stop my subscription

If they wanted Sega games, get arcade gems, Saturn classics and Blue Sky Dreamcast games instead

I… kind of don't believe that? Nintendo chose to more than double the price of their subscription for a system that isn't even theirs?

That collection has shitty emulation and some of the games in the NSO sub (Castlevania Bloodlines*, Contra Hard Corps*, Strider & MUSHA) aren't in that collection. Pretty sure this is the first time that MUSHA (an otherwise ludicrously expensive game) has been re-released in North America since the Wii Virtual Console.

*Though these are included in their respective series Anniversary Collection on Switch.

(Not saying anyone should shell that much out for Genesis games yet again in general, though)

So Nintendo paid Sega well, we pay Nintendo well and we get to play Sonic again. Everyone's a winner. No wait, someone in there isn't a winner at all.

Honestly this news made me want that we would get an expansion pass à la carte, you just pick what you want and pay a price according to it.

The Genesis stuff is easily the least appealing stuff in it though, and is accessible in a much wider range of formats.

Sorry but if that's the case then they're actually idiots for going with expensive third party games instead of their own huge back catalogue.

You don't run a sub service by allowing people to pick and choose lol

They should stop re-releasing Megadrive/Genesis games all the fucking time and release Saturn titles

But why? I'd rather have GC games from Nintendo instead of those Genesis games...

Then a decision needed to be made on the viability of overspending for Genesis games that, let's be real, have multiple ways to be accessed.....versus making available the Gameboy line which isn't commercially available on any 'currently produced' platform, even if all they managed to get on there were their OWN in-house GB/GBC/GBA catalogue. There's countless ways to legally play Genesis games right now. What Nintendo doesn't seem to grasp is their own library of games going back to the NES, forget about third party stuff, is more than sufficient to drive its own virtual console/sub ecosystem without messing around with licensed titles.

yeah uh, Sega has put those same games out for pennies across a dozen different platforms. how did they suddenly get the leverage to strongarm nintendo like that???

Then maybe do GameBoy, GBA and Nintendo 64 instead and charge 10 dollars extra a year. This is lame.

Yeah, the Sega inclusion is nice, but hardly worth a substantial price increase. I love the Genesis, but those games are available everywhere.

Even speaking as somebody who grew up primarily with the Genesis before moving on to PS1, I gotta say, I'd happily take a version for a slightly lower price that's just the N64.

Oh poor Nintendo. Look it's not there fault.

FWIW, I kinda doubt that's what Emily Rogers is trying to convey here.
