Embracer Group $EMBRAC is issuing 29 million new Class B shares, worth approximately SEK 5 billion!

In addition, the co-founders of the group are selling 9 million existing Class B shares, and consolidating their holdings into Lars Wingefors AB.

Details: https://embracer.com/release/embrac...and-sale-of-existing-b-shares-by-co-founders/

Approximately SEK 2 billion (~$225m) of these shares will be purchased by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
Full IR statement: https://embracer.com/release/embrac...and-sale-of-existing-b-shares-by-co-founders/

Proceeds received from the Share Issue will further strengthen the Company's financial position and enable the Company to continue its long track-record of successful acquisitions by complementing its operations by adding new game publishers, development studios or other assets. The Company is currently seeing a growing list of potential near-term acquisition targets, which it is actively reviewing and assessing.

Soon, they'll buy Tencent.

I have no idea what their angle is. Are they actually planning to release 30 games each year?

How about you stop buying studios and just make games already?!

The weird thing is that they seem to be in the business of AA-type games that are generally understood to be a bad business these days. Much like with movies, the smart money in game development currently is to either go all-out with AAA or make cheap games.

I don't get it.

They own everything already lol. They need to make games.

As per Wiki, they released 6 games this year (not counting ports), with at least 4 more announced for this year.

Deep Silver had another 5 new games published, plus multiple ports.
Never heard of this firm!!!

Here's their 2020 line-up (or at least what I could track, and who knows what else could be announced)

Previously known as THQ Nordic AB. Changed name to Embracer to differentiate the company from THQ Nordic GmbH, which is one of their publisher subsidiaries, most known for co-marketing with Nazis, pedophiles and terrorists.

THQ Nordic Held Q&A on a Website Banned for Suspected Child Pornography

The company has since apologized, saying the move was done without "proper due diligence to understand the history and the controversy of the site." That's bullshit.

That's half a freaking billion but it seems like such a paltry sum now next to Microsoft's 7 billion spent, lol.

I feel like I have been hearing about them buying studios for years. Have they published/developed anything else apart Destroy All Humans remake (that was them right)?

Jeez, everyone was worrying about Google, Amazon and Tencent gobbling all the indie devs up, when this whole time it's Embracer Group we should've been worrying about.

Embracer buying up Europe is far worse than the Zenimax stuff. They're going to own pretty much the whole region soon.

Private companies have to want to be acquired to be bought up. It's not like they can just forcefully buy companies because they have money. It's not even that simple for public companies, despite what people on here seem to believe

I think their games tend to fall between the cracks, because they are not usually AAA games or smaller "indie" type games, but something in-between (or remasters of old niche games). On top of that, Embracer consists of several smaller companies, some of which kind of do their own thing. Saber Interactive does a lot of porting of games for example, like Crysis Remastered for the Switch, without any actual mention of Embracer (or THQ Nordic).

You have to hand it to this company, they're acquiring the most niche of intellectual properties and consolidating developers and publishers that their competitors couldn't care less about.

Their portfolio is essentially a frakenstein of different brands throughout the years to create this conglomerate of a company.

Im starting to get the feeling that these clowns are just buying up shit so they can leech off everything they own long term. There doesn't seem to be any grand plan or vision here.

With their fingers in these many pies it makes the future of the streaming model very lucrative for them too.

Half a billion is massive, surely enough to buy multiple studios with million seller IP's. I'd imagine with that kind of budget they will try to buy in bulk though. Maybe some other Swedish gaming holding firms like Enad Global 7 (market cap ~300 million dollars) could be a target (they own Rising Storm 2 developer Antimatter Games, support studio Toadman Interactive, smartphone game developer Big Blue Bubble, marketing agency Petrol, UK publisher Sold Out, etc.).

Inception horn is going off in my head at the idea of Microsoft acquiring Embracer Group.
