Between 2K and EA, I'll definitely choose EA. They surely got a spare team or two from the Codies that can work on Burnout right?

rooting for EA because of GamePass ultimate.

(honestly I don't really care, but Codemasters games fit EA library better than Take Two's)

It is incredibly sad how toxic this place has become lately.
But you see, surely every single one of these companies EA bought would have lasted even longer if they hadn't been acquired - companies never want to get acquired for additional financial security, and game companies just never go out of business on their own. After all, it's such a stable business, gaming, one not at all contingent on spikes between years long lulls, and teams are simply never absorbed into larger structures. EA bad.

I dunno which I would prefer. EA's driving games have not been my cup of tea and I dislike the direction they have taken them. I always buy Codemaster's games, F1, Dirt and Grid. Will they look for a way to exploit people with with addictive microtransactions like they do in their sports games (to the point of being investigated and laws being passed) or am I being toxic to suggest such a thing. Take Two don't seem much better or worse.

It is a big shame that Codemasters were unable to go it alone but looking at the numbers I was always surprised how they could make such brilliant games with the amount they sold. They obviously ran an efficient ship.

Could be synergistic if they can move some of the Codemasters games to their engines and technology. I can't comment on valuation though, not sure how well Codemmasters is doing right now.

On one hand EA seem to be a great place to work for so at least in the short to mid term it would probably be a great choice for employees. But in the other hand, I can't imagine EA finding a big enough success for them in the genre to keep those studios alive in the long term.

It's a tricky situation.

TBH I'd kinda of prefer EA as long as they stay hands off. They could slot Codemasters' games alongside their current sports titles and additionally give Codemasters access to their own IPs.

Granted EA would screw things up, but Take Two doesn't give me a ton of confidence either.

EDIT: One move they could make is putting the Dirt and F1 franchises under the Need for Speed banner. Need for Speed: Dirt and Need for Speed: F1. If they did that without making other changes it could help rebuild the Need for Speed brand.

Ugh... Please don't

Codemasters is the last bastion of passion driven AAA racing games. Their games are pure bliss, classic game with DLC content, no microtransaction bullshit, they learned their lesson after royally fucking it up with Grid 2 using that horrendous hidden in plain sight strategy for DLCs

No matter who buys them, be it Take2 or EA, they're fucked.

Silver lining: Codies' stuff (for as long as they continue to exist under EA, anyway) will be available on EA Play / Xbox Game Pass. That's something, I guess.

I think EA treats their employees well within the industry so that's probably good for everyone at the studios.

Yeah, I thought this forum loved game pass. These games will now be on game pass.
This forum loves Game Pass alright, but Codies' games will only make it to game pass via EA Play. The problem being that this means they're owned by EA, and there's not a great track record of purchased studio survival under EA.

EA managed to crash Burnout and burn Need for Speed to the ground, imagine what they're going to do to Dirt et al.

Alternative view; EA is acknowledging their failure/inability to maintain NFS or get anything Burnout related off the ground, and has spotted an acquisition opportunity to bring in a specialised studio that fits their existing portfolio in addition to the new IP and licenses they'll be obtaining. It's a chance to roll motorsports into EA Sports (via F1 and WRC) but also a ton of talent who could work on revitalising Burnout and NFS.

Admittedly I'm applying some devils advocate any my own personal hopes and optimism here but.. I think there's logic to it rather than just expecting EA to burn everything good about Codies to the ground. I don't think you buy a studio as specific as Codemasters without an idea on how you want to utilise their IP and license as well as how they fit your existing portfolio.

EA have made some great F1 games in the past. I'm all for it. The F1 series needs a bit of a shake-up presentation-wise.

I truly wish this was exactly how this played out. 🤣
Leaked footage
"Surprise mechanics" to see if you get decent wheels from a pack.
At least it won't have mid game advertisment. If the purchase brings Burnout back, I am all for it. T2 has no recent racing game pedigree and is arguably worse when it comes to MTX, advertising in games, ... .
Literally not. Studios closing down is even worse and some studios like Obsidian now can make bigger and more ambitious games just as they wanted. So not always are consumers loosing something when a studio gets acquired, that's simply false.

And people in this thread saying EA is better lol lol lol
I think...

*sorry time for advertisment, you can continue reading in 30 seconds*

... I got my point across.
