I know, it's a totally baffling way of engaging with media, and I'm always puzzled when I see it continuously crop up in gaming circles. Especially when it's two games like ER and Pokemon that offer vastly different experiences.Imagine watching a great movie and then being unable to watch anything else afterwards for a while.
From Software fans have need to attack other games since Dark Souls 1, it's in their DNA.It's ugly of ER fans to attack other games to explain how great ER is.
You don't really need to do that to talk about your favorite game.
There is so much more to it than just chucking balls at pokemon lol. All the catching mechanics from previous games are there and even more. Every pokemon can be caught by battling or by throwing, but with the higher level pokemon its much simpler to battle them. If you want to catch them with "just" throwing balls still you need to get creative with your use of all the various items which I felt was a genius move. Also the combat is the most in depth and dynamic its ever been. I wasn't sick of it after like 15 hours like every other pokemon game after gold and silver. Its the first pokemon I've actually finished the story on and I'm close enough to it that it will likely be the first one I actually complete the pokedex on too! Even my kids are enjoying it more than the other pokemon games because everything just feels better and more tactile. The one thing they struggle with is the boss battles because they are legitimately difficult action combat with pokemon battles in the middle. Some of them made me sweat as much as a Dark Souls boss lol.Legends just felt like all sizzle and no steak. Too many mechanics was stripped back for me to enjoy it fully compared to previous titles. Chucking balls at Pokemon isn't enough for me.
You nailed it. It's like MegaMan or some shit.and the awesomeness of getting the bosses powers. The last can't be overstated, of all the cool things that ER does, that one is the most awesome. More games need to do this!!
In this case they are not even similarMan, I'm so glad I can enjoy things that are similar without comparing them to each other constantly.
I really wish I felt same way because I am many hrs into ER, levelled up and got good gear, and don't quite want to abandon the time investment, but it's been increasingly boring. Exploration is only fun if there is something to find, but so far there is nothing but things to kill there, and very few lame NPCs with like two lines of dialogue. I've no idea why I am riding around committing random acts of murder on braindead creatures that'll respawn anyway. I just ride up to them instead, grab shiny shit and ride away. Initially I was excited to see new areas, but at this point those are just same recolored rocks/swamp with same location bits. There was enough content for 30 hrs of curiosity but this thing is huge.
I would never touch a game that looks like Arceus (Elden Ring's graphics with nice reshade mode barely pass my standards), but would be actually nice to have some pokemon like mechanics there for variety's sake.
This is amazing. 10+
A serious thought: what if we spun up a specific sub-forum for certain major game releases for six months around its launch. Basically a place for people to make threads with somewhat relaxed thread making rules.
This could be helpful as people apparently feel that every thought they have about a game is too important to go inside the OT. We are currently getting up to 10 new ER/From threads a day!
Gen 9 likely started its development after Sword & Shield came out. I'm cautious too, but they didn't literally give themselves a just a year to make Scar/VioletPokemon Arceus positively surprised me, I really didn't expect a Pokémon game that doesn't railroad you and lets you encounter dangerous high level pokemons if you explore too far. It gave me high hopes for the next game, but then we found out that is coming out not even a year after Arceus, and now i feel like the series is going to be stuck in mediocrity forever because of the imposed release schedule, and it's never gonna change because it will always sell to kids/nostalgia(by which I'm affected too). I did forget about Arceus as Elden ring came out, but more because of the fact that I looked at the game as a prototype than everything else.
Let's hope so. I'm desperate for a great Pokémon game.this seems weird since those two games couldn't be more unlike each other.

I literally thought that was what was supposed to happen except not a sub-forum just a few dedicated threads to keep one game from having dozens of unnecessary threads cluttering up the gaming side.

Usually whenever a new game comes out , its common for threads to be locked and Mods go "this can be discussed in the OT". Often for impressions threads. Thats what ive observed at least

You can. They're called Spirit Ashes. I have so many cute jellyfish.Pokémon Legends Arceus ruined Elden Ring for me unfortunately, because you can't catch Pokémon in that one.
