As long as the employees are paid the same as before, I'm down for this.
This is brilliant. I think 40 hours work weeks are too long, and it's dumb how normalized it is.
So you'd drop 20% of your working hours for a 10% pay cut? Who wouldn't….
I have zero connections to the gaming industry, but let me know where I can send my application when you open it ;)This is a good move and the way forward for all studios.
I've dreamt about opening up my own gaming studio that's an antithesis to some of the major studios in the industry right now:
• 30-32 hour work weeks, but get paid for 40
• Absolutely no crunch whatsoever
• Very casual and relaxed studio, coffee bar and alcohol bar on site
• Option to WFH permanently
• Gender-inclusive workplace committed to a culture of support, safety and acceptance
• Work-life balance
• Generous PTO allowance similar to Europe, nowhatever the hell most US companies
• Shared profit equally among all employees, including supervisors, managers and VPs
I get my bare minimum 10 vacation days a year with zero sick or personal days.

Just to make sure I understand, let's say a dev had a salary 40k$/year when working 40h/week, will it be the same when working 32h/week? Or will they adjust their hourly rate to make sure the yearly salary is the same?
Completely tasteless joke. Especially when I have friends working there.Guess going to 32h/week is a first step before completely shutting down the studio after GOTG bombs 👌🏻

If my work week got cut back 8 hours they would cut my pay to compensate.
A shorter work week is possible but it'll end up with a ton of people having to get second jobs unfortunately cause most companies won't keep pay the same.
It's amazing that we have been conditioned to simply not accept anything that's slightly better than our current standard.
