I am playing both Shenmue 3 and DS at the same time at the moment, and while I enjoy Shenmue 3 and appreciate that it exists and what it is trying to do, I think a 6 is probably fair. To a fairly large degree I think that is to do with the budget of the project and the fact that it is pretty ambitious for an indy title.

Couldn't disagree more with DS getting the same score, but it seems Edge weren't really willing to give the game much thrift. Edge is a weird one, they low ball some stuff (particularly Rockstar games), but high ball others.
I agree with 6-7 out of 10 for Shenmue 3, I find it hard to dislike because it's so eccentric, has a really cozy world full of laidback activities but it's very easy to criticise dialogue that sounds like it was lost in translation and the momentum of the story falls flat, especially compared to 2. Still hope they can manage a 4th game. Average Shenmue is better than no Shenmue.

Is the game that good? I'm really tempted
Do you like The Last of Us? A Plague Tale has a very similar structure, so I can't imagine liking one and not the other.. The story isn't as good of course, but its still one of the better narratives of 2019, and the dialogue is very well written and acted. Don't go in expecting this to be your GOTY or anything - it's just a very solid game with some interesting gameplay ideas that I haven't seen before. 8/10 is the score I would give it as well.

Didn't Edge give it to gamespass last year as well?

Anyway, glad they've done a round up of reviews they missed - seems like a good idea at this point in the year.

Also, is it wrong that I'm expecting this thread to be a dumpster fire in a few hours? We should make a bingo card - things like Edgy, a 7 from Edge is better than a 7 elsewhere, how they love UK developers? That sort of thing.

6 doesn't seem so bad after the reviewer hated the game so much he dropped it lol. Is the new review by someone else?

Yeah why is that? Is it common for EDGE to delay the review of certain games?
No, but I expect that given they it featured in a lot of best of the year lists they were conscious that they had missed a biggie. I know that, after seeing this games appear on a few lists, I had been planning to find the edge magazine it was reviewed in and re-read the review as I couldn't remember it - >this explains why!

Sometimes they don't bother reviewing a game if the time they need to review it in means it would be pushed due to deadlines into the next issue - they then feel the discussion will have moved on and so don't bother. It's why I like this round up.

Interestingly, the magazine is meant to be released on every fourth Thursday, but subscribers get it early in the post. They held back the Super Mario Odyssey review magazine from going to the post so they could have the first review but not break the embargo.

Makes sense given their reviews over the year - pretty sure all of these got a 9.

That's a damn good list of games. Great indie rep.

Previous Shenmue scores:
Shenmue - 8
Shenmue II - 8

Previous Life is Strange scores:
LiS S1 Ep 1 - 7
LiS S1 - 8
LiS Before the Storm - 7
LiS S2 Ep 1 - 7

They must have really not liked how things went in series 2 after the first episode...

Touryst getting some love, it's an 8 from me, perfect length, lots of charm, amazing arcade games, great music when present, looks and runs fantastic, just a fun game overall. Glad to see it scored relatively well.

Pathologic 2 getting a 9 from Edge is the justice I didn't know I needed to wake up to today. What a joyous occasion.
