EA abandons the Skate trademark

Eh, it's a damn shame, would've loved a new game. But, on the other hand we also got Session, and Skatebird (or Skatebirb as I like to call it) in development.

Wow, you'd think they are at least remotely interested in anything SKATE related. Though I wonder if they maybe dropped SKATE so they can enter a partnership with Tony Hawk? Activision doesn't have the THPS license anymore, so... one can dream, right?

Seeing Tony Hawk even named by EA would be damn crazy. The Tony Hawk franchise was their biggest rival in the sports genre BY FAR.

Tried it and even after a few hours i still hate steering with the triggers, the controls are godawful and the dev's absolutely refuse to put in the skate control scheme because muh realism as if you even could realistically simulate skateboarding with a gamepad. Why not at least an option for people who just like to play skateboard games for fun?

You would think a new Skate would be super popular with streamers. I'd also just take a remaster.

These triple a publishers are ridiculous. People are thirsty for good skate boarding games. They genre has proven success for games that do it well.
Indeed, EA retains two trademarks for Skate for entertainment products. There is no story here. Was there any due diligence on this piece before it went to print? Maybe do a search on USPTO for Skate marks?

To clarify my previous post, to my layman's eyes the trademark that was abandoned was specifically for digital downloads, not the overall Skate video game product.

Oh sure, not calling you out at all and I share the enthusiasm for Skate(boarding) games. Just annoyed that the author of the VG247 piece can't do even the most basic research before publishing something that is misleading at best.
Hopefully some time down the road a team passionate about the idea of a new Skate goes for it.
Skate 1 and 2 were astonishingly faithful to skateboarding as an art form and captured the spirit of the scene, I'm happy those existed. If Skate 3 was a sign of where Skate was heading after that, I'm glad EA isn't doing it.

Oh well, I am sure if Skate 4 were a thing EA would have figured out a way to charge money per trick.
Glad to hear it's not completely abandoned but until we hear otherwise it effectively is. The Bombcast clip is one for GB's all time best though.
