Keep trying a Mystik KNight buts its not clicking. Restarted again again with a Magik Archer and the ranged potential is great, even if the skills are super boring. Basically used a Homing shot and the 6 tracking shot for 20 odd levels.

Really need a better explanation of what gear improves my damage etc.

I've not played it since Dark Arisen came out on the 360. I really need to double dip and grab a newer copy of it.

I got lost many many times, I think I prefer a focused experience like Monster Hunter much more. The combat is pretty darn good though.

heard a lot of good stuff about the game but when i played it i was rather disappointed, combat has some neat ideas at the base but the execution is poor

I lost count of how many times I beat this games. Easily put 250+ hours into it. I want to believe that Itsuno and his team are working on the sequel right now.

One of my favorite games of all time, was playing this while going through a very dark time in my life but even without that sentimental value it's still one of the crown jewels of the PS360 generation for me. I put crazy hours into this game and quite frankly never get tired of hopping back in that world, even if just to mess around or do another Bitterblack run.

This thread makes me want to replay this. I was thinking about going for the Platinum, but the trophy list looks like too much time/effort. I would love to see a follow-up to this. I'm curious what they could accomplish on next-gen hardware.

One of my favourite games ever. I still play it every year since it first came out, i also bought it on every console it is available even though i basically only play it on pc since it came out there. But i still bought in on the others just to show support. And in the hopes of a sequel which if they learn the right lesson could be the best game ever made...

....please give me the sequel Capcom!!

Absolutely love Dragon's Dogma and I'm still holding out hope for a proper sequel. As much as I love DD, though, its sense of wonder and exploration were the best parts, so it's definitely a lesser experience on replays and as such. I don't think I've actually finished it more than once.

I'm really glad to see all the DD love lately, it is easily in my top 5 games last gen and Capcom better be working on a sequel. I played 200+ hours on PS3 but have never played any of the expansion for some odd reason. I am now installing on Steam to do a full replay with the expansion content, it's time...

DD is one fine game.

The original game is very good, but has some issues. And its on the easy side. Magic is incredibly OP. The game was at its best when indoors, and this is why Dark Arisen is so great. Its much more challenging, and has great level design as well. The combat runs circles around Souls.

Think I was an archer the first time I played.

Was spellcasting really good in DD? Never experimented in it.

tbh if they can make Monster Hunter a hit with new audiences, they can damn sure do it with Dragon's Dogma.

I hope they're looking at doing something with it next gen.

Similar to me I played it on 360 originally and put in like 200+ hours. Got it on steam and put in like another 100. The expansion content is really fun it's one of the best parts of the game I think.

All these DD got me wanting to replay the game and finally beat the UR-Dragon. Glad to see this game getting more and more love to the point its becoming more known.

Here's hoping the Netflix series is good alongside a next-gen sequel.

Dragon rips out a peasant's heart, eats it and dooms them to be part of a convoluted prophecy that will make their life one long procession of shit... because said peasant hit his foot with the equivalent of a toothpick.

That's quite an overreaction.

I say this out of the purest love.

Ooooh, sorry, I was trying really hard to understand the initial post. xD

Someone sell me on how to enjoy this. I've put like 10 hours in the beginning twice, I think I played a mage maybe mage archer? It seems like it's got loads of potential but the combat felt pretty dull and slow and I don't feel any attachment to my AI party. I think I get totally lost on the map not in any sort of open world good way.

I try to not compare it in my mind to Monster Hunter, as series I've loved for a decade, despite others trying to sometimes compare the two.

I think I just need someone to tell me the first few hours if I should just focus on a main quest, maybe a class that is fun from the start, and then I'll start exploring and getting into it after the hump.

EDIT:

The gifs always make me want to play it. Maybe I'll give the two handed weapons a focus. Big, slow weapons have been my jam lately.

Personally, it takes some time to like magic classes.

I prefer the melee classes myself, I enjoy the ''In your face'' gameplay. The magic classes are more "sit back and watch the fireworks'' kind of thing. Sorcerers are great at making fireworks. :)

Fighters - close range sword & board DPS class, great at perfect blocking, tanking and keeping aggro
Strider - great at climbing enemies and DPS with daggers/shortbows
Mage - Support/Sustain magic class that can use lower tier attack magic too

Warrior - sacrifices the shield to do more damage using two-handers but prone to taking damage too, requires a bit of setup play and can also keep aggro
Ranger - excels at long range DPS with longbows but they have daggers too
Sorcerer - Higher tier magic for dealing huge burst damage, also has support spells

Assassin - Strider/Fighter hybrid, can use swords, shields, bows, daggers, very versatile class.
Magic Archer - A hybrid between a Strider/Mage, can use daggers, staves, magic bows, good all rounder
Mystic Knight - Warrior/Mage class hybrid, its all about the Magic Shield. It can cast spells, melee, use staves, perfect block, and wear heavy armor but requires a bit of setup play

Holy crap, just had the funniest moment. Fighting a big Ogre, using a Mystick Knight. They have a skill that summons a orb, you hit it and it fire out seeking orbs. Great long-range. Anyway, nearly killed an Ogre, dropped my orb and the Ogre went crazy. He started flailing around and he hit the orb and it actually triggered the projectiles and he killed himself.

Assassin is my way to go.
Highest str progression and it has reset skill which can cancel animation even under attack and parry immediately after.

Magic knight also is good especially BB with closed spaces.

Playing this for the first time, this month. It's much more janky and esoteric than I was expecting, but still enjoying my time with it.

Magick Archer has to be one of my favorite classes in any game I've played. Once I had the right skills, every combat encounter was pure fun. Especially large enemies I could climb on.

Hah, I wish I could have more Saves since I want to build a MA properly. I think the flaming skill is later right? I need to figure out how to max my magic damage early on, since MA does not seem to be doing great damage. I get loads of swords etc but no magic bows.

Hehe, Immolation is a fun skill. I should use it more.

I read Immolation is considered a melee skill. Its damage is based on your core strength and weapon strength, which is surprising. xD

I should try it. Tbh, I am never really sure what is boosting my damage. For something like Mystic Knight, I dunno if I should build Str like a warrior but then he mostly uses shield skills etc. Same with Magik Archer. Game does not do a great job telling me what gear is best.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Luckily someone made a neat spreadsheet I found last week, give it a look:

docs.google.com

Skill Data

Sword Sword Skills Skill,Power (physical),Power (magick),Base Strength,Weapon Strength,Base Magick,Weapon Magick,Damage Type,Debilitations,Notes Light Attack (hit 1),50,0,100%,100%,0%,100%,Weapon Light Attack (hit 2),30,0,100%,100%,0%,100%,Weapon Light Attack (hit 3),90,0,100%,100%,0%,100%,Weapo...

It lists the weapon types at the bottom, and all the skills available to them, along with what stats they scale with. :D

For example, Great Cannon, a mystic knight sword/mace skill, actually scales with weapon strength and base magic. In other words, you just need a really strong weapon with high strength and high base magic. You don't need any base strength at all.

Yes I love and appreciate Dragon's Dogma and would enjoy a sequel with less stupid mmo quests and more stupid bodyguard quests.

No I'm not playing Dragon's Dogma in 2020 though, because I bought it 3 times already (original ps3, Dark Arisen ps3, pc) and have no good pc and no current gen version, although I'd play it a bit again, were it on game pass, even at 30 fps and 1080p. Come on give us a 4k60fps sequel next gen, Capcom.

Finished it on Switch, now picked it up on PS4 since it's 55% off. The game is a lot of fun but I feel like it doesn't really start until after the battle with the dragon

Yeah, MK's are so fun to play. THe best thing to do, and forgive me if I get a few things wrong here because I've not played BBI inalmost 6 years, is put ruinous sigils down, then enchant your weapon, and either fire great cannon into those so you get the bullet hell going, or use the holy perfect block when you're stood next to it to trigger it.

For me the game starts after you escort the Ox with Mercedes to Gran Soren.

That quest is pretty slow, even if you kick the Ox to make it go faster.

Once you reach Gran Soren, things start to open up and branch out.

I do admire the game's AI scripting for their spontaneity at times.

Sadly I don't have any screenshots of when I was a Mystic Knight. Right now I'm messing around with Fashion's Dogma as a Warrior.

Wow, all of the sudden the game looks so much livelier. Thank you colours. Also, how in the world did you access that guy who people start off with in the opening level? Is it a mod or a story spoiler?

If they ever made a remake of this game, I hope that they use inverse kinematics for animation because as good as the combat specific animations are, the general traversal and limb physics animation are sorely lacking (makes sense given it was from the days of last gen).
