An update to my adventure in losing progress!

I decided to give it one more go, so I started the game and hit resume in the main menu, and I'm back in the fort? Not the inn. The fort. Also my pawn is alive.

Everything about this is weird, but at least it somehow worked out in my favor. So if lesson one is to not manually reload unless you're ok with losing a lot of progress, lesson two would be that you can get that progress back again by quitting out and resuming.

Edit: I wasn't even able to run down the stairs before the leader of the soldiers attacking the fort is defeated, and the quest is now marked as failed and the game of course quickly autosaved the failure. Fuck this game. FUCK THIS GAME.

Is there a mod on PC that makes it so I don't have to worry about starting with the right class and switching at the exact right level to avoid ruining my stats at end-game?
If you're that worried about getting the perfect stats...
Use a mod like this one.
www.nexusmods.com

dinput8.dll hooks

save backups, hotkeys, ingame overlay (clock, item/stats editor, equipping/learning skills, ...), camera fixes, day length, char customization, augment mods, various cheats (ignore vocation for weapon

There's a respec button in it that lets you relevel your stats to whatever class you want so they are not considered illegal specs.

This is great, thanks. I know it seems like something small to get all bothered by, but I am broken and could never get over that little fact when I played it the first time. I felt obligated to play classes I didn't want to play to avoid stat differentials.

On Xbox I have a lvl 166 sorcerer utilitarian/scorcher decked out in BBI gear. GT is Evile3. If you send me a message with "dragons dogma" I'll accept it asap.

On psn I am just starting off but also have a mage, only level 12 or so. Psn is Helmster.

Out of curiosity, are there any mods that improve the rather early and retro Photomode to have more modern features?

I wonder what happens when you fail that quest.

how long is this game?
This varies vastly depending on:
  • How much side content you do. There's a few dozen side quests along with a lot of repeatable random objective quests.
  • How much exploration you do.
  • How much time you devote to the postgame segment (lots of optional content) before finishing the game.
  • Whether you spend time playing around with other vocations or just stick to one class.
  • Whether you engage with the Bitterblack Isle optional dungeon and how much you do so. You can clear just the first loop, clear the much harder remixed 2nd loop, or keep clearing again and again after that to see all the room variations and grab the best gear in the game.
One playthrough can be anywhere from like 10 to 75 hours, I'd think.

What exactly is the post game in Dark Arisen? In the original it was basically just Ur-Dragon I think. Is Ur-Dragons still in this?

Ur-Dragon is still in yes.

Bitterblack Isle is an expansion where you basically replay the same dungeon over and over to get stronger and get better loot, and then when you beat it you get to do it all over again with stronger enemies and loot you can only get the second time around.

It wasn't FAILED failed, just set on a different path where the assault failed. I was told to report back, commended for my fighting prowess, and rewarded.

However, the captain dying (or fleeing?) means the quest is instantly over. You do not get to proceed. The inner door never opens, you don't get to go up the stairs. This means you miss out on loot up there. Maybe it's possible to return later somehow, but for now I'm a bit miffed that I missed out on it. Like, I think I collected some pants or boots or something on my first try that I never checked out. Now I can't get them anymore. All because of a random chance of the enemies ganging up on one particular npc.

I take it once I max vocation, I should just switch class? I'm an Assassin currently.
Kinda
You'll wanna learn the beneficial augments from some of the other vocations(such as ferocity and clout from warrior)
But you don't have to max all of them
You'll wanna stay on your chosen vocation most of the time, or if you're into min-maxing, stay on the job that gives you the best stat increase until at least lv100

Okay cool cool. Will keep that in mind. Thanks

Btw, had an awesome experience today just roaming outside Gran Soren, bandits fight me and a god damn griffen just shows up and destroys everyone. Then of course a 20 min fight with said Griffen. Very cool

I keep seeing people say this as if getting to level 100 is so easy. Is it? I've been playing like 6 hours and am only level 26. I can't imagine grinding out a job you may not wanna use to 100 just for a stat boost.

I don't know the experience from using melee and archer jobs, so someone else can hopefully chime in
But it's really easy for the jobs that can use staves(mage, sorcerer, and probably magick knight & magick archer) to hit lv200 by using the most broken skill in the game, focused bolt, to just pew pew a boss to death for up to 600k xp each time

I can't imagine grinding out a job you may not wanna use to 100 just for a stat boost.
Yeah, that's why it's one of the biggest complaints against this game if you look at the thread on what ppl want changed in DD2, and usually recommended for ppl that wants to min max here.

I tried this years ago but couldn't quite get into it. But for $5 and now being on PC, gonna try it again because on paper this game *should* be what I like.

Since I'm on PC are there any simple graphics mods anyone recommends to make it look a bit nicer? Reshade with some specific preset? Never messed with that stuff before so if there's a good instruction article or video with a mod/preset that would be awesome!

is the game fun right from the start or does it take awhile before it gets good like the first Witcher game?

It is really an underrated gem. Glad more people get to experience it. For less than 5 bones, you're in for a treat.

I have two pawns. Both rangers and at level 200. I don't remember my pawn's name on PSN lol. Maybe it's Shiki? Have to plug in my PS3 to see.

Steam: StarStorm
Pawn: Dirge
Class: Ranger
Level: 200

PSN: StarStormOne
Pawn: Shiki
Class: Ranger
Level: 200

If I ever play it for the third time, I pick my vocation for my Arisen as a Mystic Knight and my pawn as a Sorcerer.

Finally, only after completely clearing BBI and well into my second run I finally got a weapon I like better than my Grigori weapon as a Warrior.

This class definitely got the short end of the stick and it shows.

You have a mandatory slow escort quest from the starting area to the main city (Gran Soren) where things open up (i.e. you can start to change vocations, more areas and quests). You can kick the oxen to speed it up (but not so much it dies and you fail the quest!). I think it probably takes 20ish minutes? I never timed it though.

I've put about 300ish hours and it's probably one of my least favorite things about the game...

Y'all gonna make me revisit my save on PS4, damn. I'm left off in BBI because I was taking the masochist approach and trying to do two handed great sword warrior, which is absolutely impossible. I'll probably switch back to Magick Archer to take on a few enemies then go back to shove my giant sword into the boss there and finally finish BBI proper.

Somewhere
Man I need some guidance. I'm only a few hours into the game, but I'm feeling a little lost. I managed to finish the quest beneath the pawn guild, but I keep getting wrecked to bandits, ogres, whatever. I bought the gear I could afford, and hired a few pawns, but I feel under leveled... or I'm not playing it the right way. How can I tell which quest is my main quest? Should I be venturing off map to look for stuff?

I explored and fought stuff - a lot. That seemed to make the game very doable and eventually you become like a god regardless lol.
You using someone's pawn and have a little party going? I always had my guy and then rented 2 out for a party of 4.

You can upgrade gear in the city which also greatly helps. Leveling up then changing classes will allow you to learn and equip passive stuff from the pool of things you learned across the classes which is also very important while playing.

So, full party, upgrade gear, learn skills and explore all over! Hope this helps a little

Here's a little something for those new folks that are reading various guides and thinking this game is some sort of min-maxing nightmare:

I failed the little girl escort quest to get the gold idol (got the gold egg instead). How screwed am I now that I won't be able to access the vendors stronger weapons?

it shouldn't be too bad tbh, there's the base game story content, the base game endgame content THEN the Dark Arisen endgame content as far as where you find your gear, so the gold idol will prevent you from easily getting the base game best gear, but it would have been replaced anyways prior to going into Bitterblack Isle with the vanilla post game content. But I don't think you're locked out entirely from getting a gold idol, there's usually loopholes in this game. If you are assed out I think someone can rent your pawn and send a gold idol back with them, I know not all items can be sent that way but I think Gold Idol can be traded in that way.
