I made this thread so someone with the data can give us some insight nglCongrats to the development team, except for Sugiyama of course.
How many of those were Switch sales? (And how many of those were Western Switch sales?)
Japan PS4 + 3DS sales were well above 2.1m right around launch, so yeah.
Not all of it is from the switch version ofcourseI made this thread so someone with the data can give us some insight ngl
Dragon Quest 11 also sold over 4 million, although only 500k was in the westIt was 4 million worldwide in November 2018, with at least 1 million + in western sales. That means that the Switch version, which debuted around 300k in Japan, looks to have sold/shipped 1.5 million ww.

Those numbers don't include digital sales.Japanese sales were 3DS 1.772.911 and PS4 1.368.698. The rest were western sales. This was before the Switch port.

The 5.5 million is also shipped, not sold.

DQIX's last reported global figure was 5.3m but that was last given after 1.5 years and we know it had sales after that point. DQXI is likely around tied with it, both are the only DQ games to exceed 5m.Where does this rank among the best selling DQ's? Bout a year ago, in a thread, I predicted it would be the best selling DQ ever. Am I right or wrong?
That really depends on what you expected from the game. If you expected the series to show big growth in the west it's meh.
Yup.I suspect XI isn't the best selling yet only because if it was SE undoubtedly would have pointed to it.
Four platforms.
They didn't sell that many copies on PC and PS4 in the west to be raking in any kind of serious money to begin with.If only SE didn't go full stupid on the PS4 launch of DQXI outside of Japan, imagine if they actually tried to market it and spaced it out instead of sending out to die sandwiched between Spider-Man and Tomb Raider 3, and even then, Tomb Raider 3 got murdered as well. Its like SE LOVES to make strange decisions and kill their own games for jokes. Not to mention the non-existent marketing for the PC version.
This is up there with their decision to launch Tomb Raider 2 exclusively on XB1, sandwiched between FO4, CoD:BO3, and SWBF.
I don't even know whats up with this company. Hell, they could even make it a $20 paid DLC for the PC and PS4 for the definitive content and roll in money, but they don't...
With 3-6 version of the same game.
I don't know why I skipped over PC in my head, lol. So yeah, four platforms makes it even worse.
The issue isn't that the west hates DQ, so much as they can't be bothered with it in the first place.Great news, not that it will make a dent in the "the West hates Dragon Quest" refrain.
My guess is they expected more growth.I really wonder what Square Enix thinks of these numbers. It's a fair amount for sure, but it's a huge game and they built so many versions of it, so it must have been rather expensive.
Ummm....what math did you use to get this number? So 1.5-2M in the west then? Kills a lot of the "flopped in the west" comments from before. Great because the game deserves it and much more.
Less. ~3.6m physical in Japan and then there's JP digital and Asia to factor in. 1.5 is probably more like the best case ceiling. So 1.5-2M in the west then? Kills a lot of the "flopped in the west" comments from before. Great because the game deserves it and much more.
