Ah ok, thanks for the answer
While I am not that far yet, all the same quests from the 3D version were offered around helidor in 2D mode.Just went through Gallopolis in 2D mode, (transitioned after the demo) and was surprised that none of the townsfolk offered me a quest. Are the quests missing in 2D mode? Seems like a strange difference, but not sure how else to explain it.
Just a heads up you can make this encounter a lot easier by using one of the flower consumables (Can't remember the name, starts with h) to put one of them to sleep so you can focus on one enemy. Pretty sure the % of that activating is higher than using one of the knife abilities. Finally beat the boss of kingsbarrow on strong enemies mode. Took me 5 attempts.
The only way to do it ended up being to keep scorched earth on them (erik's pep power) and mostly focus on healing from both characters while it does the work, because usually someone dies if you don't spend all your time healing. Used pep consumables to keep scorched earth up.
So basically that + a bit of luck. Glad that's over, but if fights that stupidly difficult (that require grinding to overlevel, cheesing consumables, luck, and 5 attempts) are a normal thing I don't know if I can keep playing this game. The normal mode is too easy to be interesting so I won't take draconian off.
NOA published Octopath in the west and I've seen it at $45 multiple times this year both digital and physical so maybe early next year? It was $50 on Amazon earlier in JulyThinking about sinking my teeth into this one, but am undecided about when.
Do DQ games go on sale on Nintendo platforms? Or will it be a long time before this one ever dips below $40?
Awesome, good to knowOnce you past through the Door of Departure/Before you arrive to Hotto. Extra perk is you don't necessarily have to have the armor equipped to be able to wear it visually.
I don't know about the chandelier item, but in regards to the pep move you just need to keep playing. It'll come up.I finally started the demo tonight. I was putting it off because I wasn't planning to play the game until early next year because this fall is pretty packed, but seeing all my friends playing (or replaying) made it hard to stay away. Hopefully I can finish it before Death Stranding comes out.
Wanted to "give it a taste" and ended up playing for 2.5 hours, exploring every corner of every map that I could. Just now saw the title pop up lol.
There was a sparkle in a chandelier in the castle, could I have reached it somehow? Also, there is a sidequest I just started to perform a pep move or something, any tips for that? I don't see a psyche up or tension sort of option like on the last couple DQ games I played around with.

Erik is like the greatest human being that's ever been a human being
Oh yeah now I got it, what you mean :P
I don't understand the "Hero's voice"-option in the audio settings. The main hero never talks anyway.
Switching to the DQ8 overworld theme is 1000 times better.
Is the battle pop-up text (top right) new? It showed up with Erik's portrait and he said "don't overdo it ok? If you need to heal then heal".
I don't remember ever seeing that on PC
Did you talk to theHoly shit, fuck theboss.Tentacular
Edit: Killed it, thanks to Erik's sleep -> persecutter combo. But damn, sometimes that thing had five moves in a row that would just obliterate my party.
Okay damm "Super Tough Monsters" in Draconian Mode is no joke. I'm also using Lower Exp and No shopping.
I'm up to the "Devil Boss" in a treasure chest. Both of my guys are Level 7, used the Forge and everything.
The damn boss can Pep and Heal itself! He's wiped me in two freaking turns when he takes back to back turns. This is ridiculous!
Any tips? I'm not a JRPG noob. The closest I've gotten here is using the Hero's Greatsword Parry skill and giving the best sword to Erik. We were able to use a Super Pep attack and get the boss health down low, but he Pepped and Healed and wiped us.

Makes it much more manageable and I didn't have to over level with stronger enemies on. Though some of the boss battles do have a bit of rng with stronger enemies.
I really hope this game is selling well. I want all the Dragon Quest games on switch

It's also a different feeling in 2D mode where you can't selectively ignore encounters lol.Until it spikes a bit again later.. But now I'm kind of coasting and feel like the difficulty from harder monsters kind of settles in to being roughly equivalent to what old school JRPGs were by default. That is to say - Not too hard, but can definitely push you at certain moments.
I feel like the normal difficulty is kind of overblown some places can still be tough and bosses can still be a pain. Regular enemies are easy yeah but I had a few calls with some bosses later on. I was playing on harder monsters and turned it off because mobs were annoying but bosses felt easier and I felt like I was just wasting time on healing. Though the Gallopolis boss I took down no problem on harder monsters for some reason ehile others before it were way harder.Yeah, I can imagine. Maybe I was unlucky but the times I tried sleeping one they only stayed under for one turn so it was questionable how worth it was making the attempts (which, to me, seemed to have a low % chance of success).
I feel like this game has difficulty that's kind of all over the place on harder monsters.. Which isn't necessarily *bad*. What do I mean by that? Certain sections early on are oppressively hard, but then suddenly after you get 4 party members everything becomes really easy.. Until it spikes a bit again later.. But now I'm kind of coasting and feel like the difficulty from harder monsters kind of settles in to being roughly equivalent to what old school JRPGs were by default. And the above paragraph should highlight just how brain deadedly easy this game is on normal difficulty. Like, seriously. If you want to have to think or strategize at all, do not pick normal. Normal should just be considered story mode since you can't fail (and there's nothing wrong with that, but I know there are some people who appreciate having to dig into the mechanics).
