Yeah. It looks much better as it has actual gameplay and is pretty much a classic Dragon Quest game adapted to the concept.

Oh man this looks SO GOOD. I desperately want this to come to the west but I know it won't. It's such a shame.
i really wish the DQ mobile games (other than the ports of the mainline games) came out of japan :(
That is a GREAT trailer but I feel like it's a bit disingenuous to what the actual game will play or look like. Not like I've played it myself obviously. It just doesn't seem like something augmented reality can deal with right now. I find it interesting that this and Minecraft Earth are really banking on Pokemons Go's AR being its selling point when every single person I know who plays Go has turned off the AR at this point (aside from the recent smeargle photo bomb).
The trailer was really good. Anyway, yeah, it seems a Pokémon GO clone with more traditional battles. It might even be its next dragon Quest Monsters at this point.
The DQVII remake would be nice, but I guess that'll never get released in the west because Nintendo did the localization.

I wouldn't think so. The XII stuff was said very fast and in a minor way in a segment where they were listing their recent projects like the new CG movie, DQ Builders 2, etc.

If this actually has a good battle system, then it's totally got my interest over Pokémon Go.Battles seem like classic DQ.
More like, people silently staring at their phones, tapping their phones, and not interacting with any of the 20+ other people tapping their phone.
This is co-developed by Colopl who run the Shironeko Project mobile game and they have been doing well in gacha in general so this game should perform admirably (though they specialise in action games DQ has a fairly set way of RPG that is hard to mess up)

The fact that this has dungeons and themes around visiting various landmarks makes me think this is not gonna be localised to the West.

It probably will stay Japan only but dang, I wish it would get localized. If not, I wonder if SE will I.P. block people from playing it in the west.
That likely won't happen. Not only DQ popularity outside of Japan isn't that big but the developers responsible probaly need to make the infrastructure for other regions while in Japan that's more easier. I I don't see it happening and the game only being in Japan where it's going to be it's biggest market makes sense. Not that it would change too much with it coming outside of JP, because jp mobile games makes most of their money on the country so it just would be more money for translation, localization, marketing and so on for western when the return won't be as big.
This looks really great but sadly it seems very unlikely that it would ever see a western release.
