Oh I see, so if I subscribe with PS4, I can use said sub on Switch as well, long as I own the Switch version too?
Whoops, looks like I was wrong and that's not the case:
※PlayStation®4版では5キャラコースのみとなります。
※PlayStation®4版の利用券を購入していても、同じスクウェア・エニックス アカウントでWii U版、Windows版、Nintendo Switch™版を遊ぶ際は、Wii U版、Windows版、Nintendo Switch™版で契約されているコースのキャラ数までしか遊べません。
You really have to pay a separate subscription for the PS4 version...

Probably a long shot here but I'm guessing unlike Phantasy Star Online 2 there are no English patches or anything like that for this game?

So basically classic Sony cross-platform bullshit except since it's Japan everyone's happy to continue being treated like dogshit rather than speak up about it. Got it! (smh)

It's really weird, since it's not like that with FFXIV. Plus if you pay for 2 subs, you can play with the same characters on multiple platforms including the PS4.

(Also I'm pretty sure people were very angry about this, but that anger just fizzled out).

I'm sure the problem is that of DQX also being on Nintendo platforms. Sony doesn't seem to like to play well with others. They don't allow PSO2 cloud (such as Switch) players to play with PS4/Vita players either.

I think block limitations are mostly there to separate people whose performance can vary a lot. Vita blocks have smaller areas and less enemies on screen during bursts (but they last for 1:30, instead of 1:00 because of that).
The Cloud version blocks might be a bit different under the hood as well.

Man, I popped in for 5 mins last night, but apart from story progress (which I actually remember), I feel like I have to re-learn a ton of this game from scratch, which is a little daunting. Seems like they've added or changed a lot of stuff since I was last focused on it. I'll give it a shot tho. Hadn't picked up the latest expansion yet either, so I grabbed that as well. Hasemo what are your fav resource/攻略 sites these days? Also what is your general method for making money?

I use this wiki almost exclusively.

It has quest/story and other walkthroughs.

After coming back from a long hiatus, I'd start from this page and finish the useful feature quests which you might have left - https://dq10.i-k-e.net/quest/func/.

Other than that, reading this short summary of what has been added/changed in the game with the latest expansion is also a good idea, especially since they overhauled the entire skill point system* - https://dq10.i-k-e.net/verup/ver5_0/ready

*The very simple explanation is that doing job quests gives you a ton of skill points (in addition to points you get by raising your level), but weapon skills are no longer shared between classes (so you can't get your sword skill to the max but splitting SP between a few classes anymore).

The job exclusive skill tree still gives passive benefits to all jobs, so my advice is to get all your classes high enough that you can get ~100 (varies by job) points into it for shared passives.

They really simplified the master orb with the new patch. I thought I must be misunderstanding it because it's so simplified now.

Super helpful, thanks!

I haven't played much in years (I'm still in version 2!) but I'm gonna give it another shot this time. Raised like three levels tonight and moved the story forward a bit, so it's a start! LOL

At this point I'm sure you have a ton of メタル迷宮チケット, both single and pair ones - using this with 元気玉 can get you to the max level in a few hours (if you have enough). One problem would be the level cap quests, remember to do those. Same thing with unlocking skills for 150+ points in the tree. Both of those types of quests are listed on the page I linked so it should be fine.

One of the most important things to use when playing DQX is the Useful Tool App.
It's hands down the best MMO companion app I've seen in my life (and it makes the FFXIV look like a sad joke in comparison), even compared to the old WoW Armory.
Honestly, aside from fighting directly it allows you to do most of the stuff in the game. Lottery (with a special app-exclusive one), mini-casino, monster farm, sending monsters to do your daily/weekly XP quests, selling/buying items, exchanging offline time for 元気玉、メタル迷宮チケット etc. (the time stacks even when your sub isn't active btw., so you can just leech those items whenever you remember to launch the app), fishing, and so on.
A lot of this stuff is managed by a paid currency, but unless you are going to use the app very actively, you should be fine with just the login bonus amounts.

Nice, updated it today! I've had it since it came out but back then it was largely useless. Hey random Q - is there any way to zoom the camera out during battle? Battles feel a little claustrophobic coming off of FF14. I found some settings that are supposed to let me adjust the view but I didn't really notice any difference?

Hm, no idea, I think I've only messed with the settings outside of the client (playing on pc).

OK, first time taking a serious crack at this game since beating 1.0 — managed to burn through 2.0 in about 4 or so days? And just got to 2.1. Got a long, long way to go, but I think I'll try and stick with it this time and see how far I can make it. :)

If I remember correctly (it was a long time a go), 2.x is really messed up, but it's also the best part of the story.

Been playing a bunch lately; cleared 2.0 the other night, then went to work clearing off as bunch of quests I probably shouldn't have accepted (tho a couple were worthwhile). Once that's done, I'll get back to 2.1.

I been reading up on stuff as I can but I've been gone so long that it's kind of overwhelming, and I think I'm probably missing some obvious stuff. (Like the 達人のオーブ is new and confusing, but I'm slowly learning about it now.) For now, a few Q's for ppl who know better:

- What's the best way to make money these days? Selling mats at the bazaar, or?
- How do you typically get new gear? Buying from the bazaar or?
- Do you guys typically level up all your jobs or mostly focus on one or two? My warrior is like level 91 or something, not sure how far is worth going before I should start focusing on a diff job instead (all the others are around level 40 or so, I think)

Sorry if any of this is dumb; I been playing pretty leisurely but I'm starting to really enjoy it again so I want go get caught up on everything I've missed over the years!

- For money, I usually just sell everything I get on the bazaar. This includes weekly rewards from 強戦士の書 (unlock quest, from 超お役立ち機能).
Daily/weekly 討伐 quests also can get you ~20-40k per day and ~100k per week. Honestly though, not even necessary as you rarely need money in the game.

- For gear, both for weapons and armors you can get it for "free", as I explained here. If you have 1 class high enough to access this content, you can use it to grab gear for other classes as well.
You can get items to access the dungeon island from exchanging your game time by the way. You will probably need a bunch to get the full set of armor.

- Regarding leveling up classes, since the games hands out metal labyrinth tickets like candy, leveling up your sub jobs is super easy. I would recommend you looked at passive bonuses you can get from each one and level those first. You should get enough XP through playing the story/daily/weekly stuff that hitting the cap on your main class should be a piece of cake. After that, just switch to the next class before handing the quest over so they get the xp.
As for weekly battles from 強戦士の書, since you can just get a group of super high npcs, you can go there even at a super low level for the xp.
Never forget about 元気玉 too, they're super easy to get anyway.

Don't forget to use all the item codes in the main menu - most should still be active.

Still truckin' along slowly, but I feel more comfortable now that I've been back at it for a bit. I'm up to around 2.3 with the story - unlocked the royal tomb labyrinth today so I been taking Anlucia through it to get her levels up a bit, and occasionally unlocking jobs I don't have yet so I can dump bonus EXP into them for the permanent stat boosts. Got skill points unlocked up to 150, and I think my level cap is like 95 or 96 now? Something like that.

Hard to believe the game's gonna be 8 years old in just over a week!

Definitely get Anlucia up to a decent level and if possible give her a ハヤブサの件 or whatever that double attack swird is called and a good shield. I didn't do the former and when I had to use her for story battles where she wasn't auto synced, she just kept dying super quickly...

I haven't played since last september-ish, redoing all my skill points is a time. Trying to reorient to the menu's and everything, game still feels so very cozy to me. Messing around with monster tamer/beasttamer. Using call to knock out suppression targets fast is a godsend.

I forgot to mention, but while you can't bring regular party members to the royal maze, you totally can have a monster with you. I recommend a max level Healslime. Don't remember having any problems with the whole regular and 裏 dungeon with them. Also remember to grab the buffs from Djins, most of the time they're more important than the treasure boxes.

Yeah it mentions many times that you can bring a monster but IDK what that means - is it talking about switching to the Monster Master vocation? Or is there a different way to have a monster with you? (I should probably read up on it - I basically just ignored it until now since I'm not interested in Monster Master.)

After you have gained the Monster Master class you don't have to stay it to still use monsters as party members.

Yeah, you can justo go to the monster farm and take it out. I think you can even have it on you with a whole party of NPCs and deactivate someone to activate the monster when necessary. Also, if you want to quickly max it out, I suggest using the companion app and doing a few feasts.

I see - I got a healslime but if I try changing jobs it says he's going to be sent to the monster 酒場 - is that normal? Or do I have to fight with him for a while to make him stick or something? I really should've paid attention when I unlocked the vocation but it was a long time ago and all I remember now is that it was a long-ass explanation lol

Iirc you can very easily do that in the app as well.
(I did 2 parties with you and I think it went up by 4, although I don't remember what do the numbers in brackets mean).

Speaking of the farm in the app, I really recommend doing the weekly 30k coin roulette there, the rewards are pretty sweet.

Yeah from everything I've read, the fastest way to raise なつき度 is with the app, tho it still takes a while (I've done like 15 parties and I'm still at 43). Thanks for the assist!

I think the cloud version is pretty much it's own platform and the only available trials are for Windows, Switch, and PS4.
Also no idea if you can play on multiple platforms while using the trial, though I'm sure it's written on the official page somewhere in small print.

That makes seane. My original account says PC as platform when logged into Cloud, the account I use for Switch says something like Custom Version. So I think you're hit the hammerhood on the head with that one. Thanks.

OK, finally finished version 2 for real today (i.e. all the way through 2.4, beat the end boss, saw the credits, etc.). That was quite a step up from version 1, excited to dive into version 3 at some point soon (might break for some FF14 for a bit first tho).

I vaguely recall something in this thread way back when about needing to finish stamp cards and it being a drag but was that for something else maybe? Or maybe they simplified that over the years? (Or maybe that was after 3.1?) I should really read back through the thread, LOL.

EDIT: Ah, I see, looked at the requirements for starting 3.0 and I see " スタンプカード で 光っているクエストを全てクリア "

Guess I'll be working on that next, LOL.

Side quests are a bit time consuming, but iirc they also offered pretty neat side stories, so it's not all bad.

I wound up sticking with DQ10 after all; got the remaining four key emblems I was missing and did all the gaiden quests for 3.0 except for one last set of five which I'll hit up tomorrow. Also did all the paladin job quests and bought a set of nice level 60 paladin gear as I'm going to try switching over from warrior to paladin this weekend. (My warrior is level 93 but my paladin is level 61.)

It's astounding how much content this game has. I really wish they'd make it possible to dash or ride a mount inside towns and castles tho. I feel like you spend half the time in this game walking around safe areas...

Moving is definitely very slow, but I'm glad they allow you to warp to story points directly from the menu for older content. Makes it much faster.
I'd recommend powerleveling all the classes high enough that you can get the shared passives, I'm sure you're sitting on a mountain of metal dungeon tickets.

Yeah I have all the shared passives on every job I've unlocked - still missing a few jobs tho. They were all pretty easy to get just from using bonus EXP sent to the concierge, tho I had to do a couple of dancer job quests since dancer has two categories with shared passives. Just wrapped up the last set of sparkly quests too - on to 3.0!

Update: so I tore through 3.0 rather quickly (it was way more streamlined than 2.0!), but the final boss just kicked my ass. Was kinda surprised! So I decided to take some time to clear out quests instead - I unlocked all remaining jobs and got all their passives, then filled out all the stamp cards available to me so far and raised the level cap to 100. I guess I'll try again? Nothing has been -too- challenging so far until this, so either I got unlucky, or i was too weak... Either way, looking forward to giving it another shot!

EDIT: Went back and whooped his ass with relative ease. Time for 3.1!

Sorry for the bump. Not sure anyone can answer this, but is the Switch version IP banned in Canada? I'd love to play this, but with my shitty data cap I can't really afford to download a 20+ gb game to only learn it's IP banned here. Right now, it seems like people in the US can play it without using a VPN.

I'm moving to Japan next March, so I guess I can wait to start it if I have to...

I don't think it's banned anywhere at this point, but you might want to ask on Dragon's Den (if you want to start playing getting into that community is a good idea anyway!)

I would assume that the Cloud version has the same restrictions as the client one, so maybe checking that out would work? It's probably not a huge download.

I'll check out the cloud version. Thanks for the idea!

Managed to get it to work on my Switch. Had to use a VPN on my laptop, mess with some settings, then connect my Switch via a hotspot to the laptop. Works good!

Do you know if SE has announced how much longer they plan to support DQX? I see that they released the last expansion last year.

Glad to hear it works fine!
I don't think SE officially announced anything, but given how well their MMOs are doing, I'm sure it will be alive for at least a few years. FFXI stopped getting big expansions years ago, and the servers are still up.
Honestly, even if the next expansion is the last one (which I doubt, also I don't think it has been officially announced yet or anything), it's still worth to play the whole thing since version 1.0 if only for the story. It's great, my second favorite DQ maybe, after V.

I've been loving it as of late, I been playing a lot since the summer. I'm kinda stuck at the end of 3.3 - the boss that's blocking the portal to the next area is like insanely hard. Party wiping even with everyone at 107 and above... Gonna need to grind a bit I think, for a change

Are you trying to beat it on a normal difficulty level by any chance? I remember the 4.0 boss being hard right after release, but for everything else switching to "easy" has been enough. I know it's not ideal, but I don't think the AI is good enough to manage harder fights on higher difficulty levels.
