Speaking more seriously, though. If there are any people who are working on this game, please pass it along that we the people demand the return of the Architect. This is our one united wish.
Never played these games before. Do the first two still hold up / are they still worth playing? And is it like Mass Effect where the DLC is highly recommended?

First one is worth playing. The second one has it's moments, but is considered pretty bad. The DLC for the first one adds a decent amount, with Awakening being essentially a sequel.

YES. The first is SUPER old looking, so I would recommend any mods that make it look more like the sequel. The only dlc you really need for the first one is leliana's song (backstory for a very important character), Warden's Keep (it comes with a stash and some of the brest merchants in the game. A surprising amount of the choices you make there are tracked.) andawakening which is a full expansion.
DA2 gets a bad rap because it was made in 15 months and they were forced to reuse some environments, but I would argue it has the best replay value, easily the best cast and the politics are fucking prescient. The game feels like it was made as a commentary to trump era politics when it was made in 2011. The dlc for this one is a must because it fixes many of the problems the base game had.
Also, like half the game is foreshadowing to dragon age 3 and 4. There are things planted in that game that only pay off at the end of Inquisition.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh DA as a franchise is not consistent. So far, we haven't seen a sequel that didn't throw away a lot of the ideas the previous game has.
DAO is a bit old school, good gameplay, nice story, but it's artstyle is generic as balls, and the ending of the final fight it's almost a frame by frame rip off of Sauron's fall. You have to play it if you like old school rpgs. DLCs here are mediocre and not needed, with the exception of Witch hunt which ties with Inquisition.
DAII, it's a low stakes "Local man goes mining, ruins eveything" story. Very fun story, not great... Just, fun. Gameplay is dumbed down a lot, but it also has the best iteration of the dialogue wheel (imo) where the tone you choose, affects your protagonist's autobanter mid gameplay/non playable dialogue. The DLC of this game is fantastic (better than the main game, even) and sets up storylines to come later.
Inquistion, gameplay wise is better than II, better than origins is a matter of pov. Scope is way bigger than previous games, it finally landed a proper artstyle. Sadly, BioWare doesn't handle well open world design and most of the activities in the game's maps are fetch quests, making it feel like a dull mmo. DLCs are a mixed bag: Some are experiments from BW to see if they can improve their open world formula, others, are like DAII's where are good stories that tease future things to come.
In conclusion: Dragon Age wildly differs from one game to another, play all of them! If you don't like one, the next might be your cup of tea :)
