It's great to see gaming have it's Metoo moment.

It sucks to see gamers are handling it about as well as I expected.

Twitch and the gaming industry at large will continue to be shit when you have notable people in the community treating these serious events like this.

This man is so terrible. I remember seeing an anti-BLM tweet from him that was posted here a few weeks back too. Twitch needs to get rid of him.

Good on twitch to get rid of these fuckers. Sadly, I did follow WarwatchTV, but I haven't watched him stream in several years. He never really played games as much as he played a character every few minutes.

Seriously I have had conversations with people on here who like summit and I just don't see it. It's clear he's one of those people with about as much self-awareness as Donald Trump. It's sad to see someone that successful that doesn't promote the right thing.

Seems like Kaitlyn "moved on", she hasn't talked about any of allegation she made and/or wanted to make since JP's statement. About JP and/or that RollPlay cast member.

I hope she does speak up and this thing doesn't just get brushed to side.

The situation is already muddied, Now people will doubt her more.
She should share her story because this is the right time to do it with the momentum going on.

Poopernoodle speaks out about what happened between her and Method Josh
For those who don't remember, Poopernoodle stayed at Josh's house last year and streamed with him, but the next day she left and when she streamed on her channel, she was crying and saying she didn't want to talk about it

Didn't comment at all on BLM or Pride month. Tweets some vague shit about hidden agendas instead. And then comes out with this. Says a lot about him.

Fuck summit.

Yeah someone donated to him on stream thanking him for helping him through a difficult time when he (the donater) was suicidal and dmbrandon basically called him an asshole and told him to fuck off. He also verbally harasses everyone he plays with and is just an overall piece of garbage manchild. Him being a sexual abuser is not surprising.

The Partner Process of Twitch in the last 3-5 years was way too easy to abuse by people with ill intentions. Its a lot easier to get partnered today. If you wanted to get partnered 5 years ago you essentially needed to be recognized by a big time Streamer who would dedicate their time to help you. So its very easy to see how a large number of these female streamers if you go back 5 years many were as young as like 15-16 years old. Young and sadly targeted by Male Streamers who could shower them in attention and promises of getting them partnered etc.

Its why I have said its the Hollywood system all over again. People with the power to make careers were left to their own devices with no one paying attention and used that power to abuse young women and young men.

So we've reach the point where the porn industry seems offer safer work conditions for their employees than the videogame industry. /s

i'm not sure this is what they meant when they said "believe women".
I know but the problem in their apparent logic of "my favourite streamer is innocent until proven guilt" is to mistake the judiciary and moral vocabulary. On the judiciary ground, sure that you are innocent until proven guilt, but you stay accused, it doesn't give you the right to get out of the trial or cancel the procedure against you. And a case dismiss isn't a verdict of innocence.

Many of the people who work in this industry are some of the most toxic and insecure people creating products for a generally toxic and insecure people. This industry has been trash from top to bottom.

I am hesitant to ask you of which one you are talking about because it could apply to both (so I edit a /s on my message) but I was thinking about health and hygiene practice ( bacterias and virus don't care about gender barrier) and also to avoid creeps among fans and professionals. In general how women in the adult industry have to protect themselves when you are literally offering vulnerability for the audience.

I was reading a Reddit post on a series of allegations from the Dota 2 scene and found a comment that really puts it to perspective how many industries and communities these allegations have reached so far.

/u/__Hello_my_name_is__ said:
From what I can tell, this began in the UK professional wrestling Twitter sphere of all places. All kinds of women have spoken up about various wrestlers and other people in the scene, which has led to multiple high-profile firings, suspensions and bans in various places (WWE: Jack Gallagher fired, Impact: Joey Ryan, Dave Crist fired, Michael Eglin suspended. AEW: Sammy Guevara suspended (for a rape joke) NWA: Pretty much the entire league went bankrupt after one of the founders was accused and stepped down, though COVID-19 certainly played a role here too.). There's way too many threads to link here and too many accusations to mention, basically all of /r/SquaredCircle is nothing but this one topic right now, and has been for the last week.

This (I presume) then sparked similar twitter threads in the Twitch community. Y'know, video game streaming and whatnot. Plenty of callouts, too.

Which in turn led to Dota2, as OP describe. And also Starcraft 2.

TL;DR: This is a full-blown second #metoo movement of sorts, spanning several genres and communities.

Edit: It's also possible that it started out in the comic book community instead, or that the Chris D'Elia accusations were the first instance of this new movement.

From what I've gathered over these past week and a half, these recent allegations are coming from the following entertainment industries:
  • Pro-wrestling
  • TV & Film
  • Comic Books
  • Video game developers and publishers
    • Ubisoft
    • Riot Games
    • Obsidian
  • Video game communities
    • Dota 2
    • Fighting Games
    • StarCraft 2
    • Destiny
  • Twitch
    • Streaming personalities
    • Management agencies
  • YouTube gaming personalities
  • eSports personalities
  • Games journalism
  • Trading card games
  • Tabletop games
This isn't even the first time some of these industries had these kinds of allegations levied at them.

EDIT: I'm planning on adding more to this list and will source all the bullet points as well.

Christ.

A smaller streamer talks about her past, she isn't accusing anyone in the streaming world, more about her past growing up. Really sad read.

Way too fucking common, to the point of being normal, and so few people acknowledge it (or even know about it, perhaps). Awful.

Supposedly Summit was on point and real when he talked about this stuff on his stream, that was after he posted that thread. Saw e.g. Shannon praising him for doing better there and suggested he should scrap that shitty tweet.

I saw what he said. It's still a bunch of nothingness. Basically, here's paraphrasing what he said: "I'm not saying that these people shouldn't speak out. I know that a lot of these claims are true and these people should absolutely speak out. I'm just saying it's dangerous to accuse someone without being 100% sure"

It's entirely bullshit. He knows in 99% of these cases, it's impossible to have any investigations that yield undeniable evidence regardless of the fact that the claims the women made are most likely true. He has no other solution on the matter other than that it's "dangerous to accuse someone without being 100% sure", even though he knows it's impossible to be 100% sure.

It is sad to see the evolution of this going the opposite direction of what it did in the film industry. No wonder women in all these geek fields are so hesitant to talk in it could have been a catharsis moment for the industry.

I feel incredibly sorry and angry for these women. It's unbelievable how toxic these communities and personalities can be. From my own experience from the Smash community it was very sobering to hear about how creepy and uncomfortable some of the people I thought were my friends would be towards women coming into the scene. It's no surprise these communities are mostly all boys' clubs.

I hope this results in real change.

I was really impressed by Purge's take on this (Dota) situation.

Purge was one of the first streamers i ever heard talking about women being harassed out of the business. His reflections on the whole Grant affair are really interesting. Kudos.

Twitch released this statement saying that will start permamently suspending people :

So far people have noticed that:
- iAmSp00n
- BlessRNG
- WarwitchTV
- DreadedCone
- Wolv21

are all gone

Basically the people who admitted to it are gone and others are being investigated.
That's promising. They need to keep going and be thorough.

Ban esports organization Method, for instance. For years management harboured and enabled an apparent psycho accused of rape and grooming minors. Should not be allowed to operate until all the people responsible for that are gone. And those people should never again work in any management position. What they did (and didn't) is absolutely irredeemable.
www.resetera.com

Esports organization Method parts ways with methodjosh

I’m making this thread because I know these people in this guild and have close ties. For people who are unaware Josh was a prominent irl twitch streamer whilst he was playing for the WoW guild Method and was accused of multiple instances of grooming/sexual assault/coercion. This all came out...

Big method streamer trying to leave the org

That's the only choice people not in leadership positions have as far as I'm concerned. I could not stomach working for or with such scumbags. I wouldn't blame someone for sticking around for financial reasons, contracts or whatever, but if you have a soul, you should make arrangements to leave ASAP.

Method's brand image is now "psychopath rapist enablers."
Even if you don't have a soul, that's not good for business. Their sponsors better demonstrate their brand values and dump them.

Toby has always come off very awkward and creepy when talking about women or sexuality. I also get the impression other casters don't like him very much, he just gets tolerates because he is/was the number one dota caster.

Regarding Toby, here's a post from Meruna:

For context for those outside the Dota 2 scene: Meruna is a cosplayer and the girlfriend of Synderen (Synderen and Toby are considered one of the most famous casting duos in the scene). They've worked together for years now.

"Lastly, syndereN did not know of this as it happened before I met him. I told him for the first time yesterday. We've been together 8 years."

Horrible.
