Second struck as they were still searching for the missing people from the first, horrible series of events.
At least 20 people have been killed after two avalanches struck in Turkey. Many are feared to have been buried under the snow, while eight rescue workers have also died in Van, a mayor said.
The first avalanche buried a snow-clearing vehicle and a minibus, killing five people and leaving two others missing. The vehicle's operator and seven passengers escaped alive. The second avalanche struck Wednesday as 300 emergency workers were searching for the two missing victims, private NTV television reported.

Jesus Christ...

RIP :/

Avalanches sound insanely scary.
Massively, can't imagine how disorienting it must be and the panic it would induce.

The one thing I would stress is to make as much of a gap around your face as possible. This will give you some space to breath in and reduce the chance of asphyxiation [suffocation]. Know that once wet snow finally settles, it becomes just like concrete, so you won't be able to move or dig yourself out. So move as much as you can before the avalanche stops.
You should also be aware that having freezing cold snow go into your ears and nose massively increases your disorientation and trying to think clearly can be a real problem. If you can't work out whether you are lodged upside down or the right way up, then spit and see which way the spit runs down your face. This will give you an idea of which way you should dig, if you can move.

Avalanches freak me the hell out because it sounds like you need to be lucky to even have a chance to survive.

Best hopes and wishes to those involved. Two avalanches in the same place is insane.
