Finished the game on UV without the HUD the other day! I highly recommend that people try playing without the HUD. It just makes the game look soo much better and on UV it still easy to manage resources without it.

Photomode has been super fun too. I love seeing all the gory details that you miss during fast-paced gameplay. Not sure if posting screenshots is encouraged in this thread so I'll just leave this link to my Flickr gallery. 5k+ screenshots: https://www.flickr.com/photos/15539352@N02/albums/72157713574022842

I think the story and lore in Doom is pretty cool, but it was delivered in a manner where the game expects you to be familiar with the backstory and codex entries from the previous game. I didn't mind the cutscenes in Eternal but if you have never read a single codex entry then I can see why it is confusing. Good idea, bad execution in essence.

I agree with this, and I guess it's part of my frustration, the story sounds really cool but only once you understand it... it would have been awesome for this epic space opera to just "click" organically.

Any two people want to join me to get the 200 kills trophy in battle mode? It's actually not going too bad just playing normally but I do need another 100 more kills 😭

Hey folks. I have not TOUCHED the online multiplayer yet, but I'm looking for two like-minded souls on PS4 that would like to set up some time (or times) to engage in private match shenanigans and boost all of the annoying MP trophies.

My PSN is Mejilan and I reside in the USA, Eastern time zone. I'm almost always around nights and weekends.
That said, I am working from home indefinitely, so depending on workload, I may be available throughout the day as well.

If you're interested, either send me a PM here or a friend request over PSN (or both!) If going the FR route, please mention "Doom" or something along those lines in the request so I know what you're after.

I don't actually know what it takes to get all of the MP trophies, but I've done some REALLY boring Crucible pinnacle weapon slogs in Destiny 2 that went on for hours, so, a) I'm good at following directions; and b) I know how to share and take turns to make sure that everyone gets a fair shake at knocking out their respective trophies.

As I said, I haven't even started working on the MP stuff since I've just barely started the campaign. So ideally, I'm looking for a pair of folks who are in the same boat as me and will be willing to slog this out across however many custom private matches it'll take for all of us to get our trophies. I figure that once we have our three players, we can coordinate and figure out the most efficient way to knock these out.

Thanks in advance!

So yeah, some serious issues on console (I'm on Xbox One X but these issues are persistent through PS4 as well according to people on Bethesda forums) that desperately need to be ironed out --

Can't load 1/2 of the levels from any mission select screen -- This issue was bad enough when it was just a level or two, but now the problem has escalated into making almost half the game unplayable for me. TL;DR -- Game freezes and crashes to menu when trying to access levels.

Not getting XP for event completions -- Bonus XP for event completions is still hit or miss for many players, including myself. Many times XP is not given out at all, and if it IS given out, it's many times far less than should be awarded. Also the problem of not receiving any XP at all, many times.

I've tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions from my support tickets but none of them work. This is on ID Software to rollout some fixes, and it needs to happen soon. Love the game but this shit is absurd.

I think I'll have to read all the codexes in 2k16 and Eternal again, the story seems to have become a complete mess with Eternal, like id just stockpiled Warhammer books and a ton of booze, and got completely hammered while they made up something resembling a backstory/lore :p

The Complete History & Lore of Doom Eternal

DOOM Eternal has a complicated story. We'll be talking about the origin of the Doom Slayer, How Hell invaded Earth and how the Night Sentinels gave origin to...

May be worth a watch - but yes, I would definitely read the Doom 16 Codex entries. Having said that, Samuel Hayden actually gives a great overview of the Doom story including the origins of the Slayer and the motivations of the Khan Makyr.

I agree with quite a few things here, and the joke about demons and Australia got a chuckle out of me.

Some of these are explained in the game, and a lot of them are just "why don't we teleport directly to the boss room/the artifact we're looking for?" when it's just videogame logic.

The stuff with Vega/Samuel is the same stuff we've all been questioning since the game came out and is rightly called out.

The video game logic stuff I'm generally OK with, I'm more referring to the terrible platforming and stuff relating to gameplay etc.

Are you fucking kidding me?
You wait till I beat the game on Ultra Violence to show this to me? 😩

I like this technique better: kill it with Harry Potter trivia.

Okay, I am probably late to the party here, but I play games pretty slow these days.
I played 2016 and loved it.

I feel like despite the obvious inclusion of the platforming sections, now that I am further along the intensity seems to be way more than 2016 ever was. Is that just me? Do I just not remember 2016?
Like I really do not remember feeling as much adrenaline playing 2016 as I am getting playing this game.
And I am only on fucking Mission 06. The Arc Complex.

I literally had to stop playing just now as I was worried if I kept playing I would not be able to go to sleep in about an hour like I normally do and wake up for work.
It is just fucking intense.

I really think my days of playing intense games like this may be coming to an end, which is kind of nuts to come to grips with. If this game came out when I was 20, I would be all over this shit night and day. In fact I was 19 when the first DOOM came out and it was basically all I played for about a half a year. But now, after a long day of working from home and everything going on in the world currently, and perhaps it is because I am 46 years old, I don't know.

I just do not know if this is what I am seeking from a video game. Shit is really chaotic. Way more than I remember 2016 being. And again, I loved 2016. Maybe it was just 2016 had better level design and it was even more chaotic? I do not remember a single encounter in 2016 like the one that just made me stop for the night. It was super confined and just chaos going on.

Yeah. I guess I just do not know if I actually love this game or actually dislike it. It is making me feel old though. That is for sure.

It's not just you. The game is far more intense than 2016. I can't play Eternal for too long at a time because I get too wired and worn out playing it.

I also have trouble sleeping after. I need to wind down after a session.

It's much more intense than most other games I've played.

It's definitely more intense than 2016. More decisions to make and required resource management will lead to faster mental fatigue
I have to take a break after every mission otherwise my aim and reactions noticeably drop

The MP achievements in this game are hopeless. No way I'm getting that 100%. Tried 2 matches on the PC with my controller and got annihilated.

I dropped the game at the Makyr boss about a week ago and haven't come back. I liked the combat well enough, but the game as a cohesive whole is sloppy AF.

And who do we have to glory kill to get JUST straight up MP death match. No load outs. No demons. Just death match.

I'm playing 2016 for the first time before playing this, after playing it at launch but dropping it after level 1, and I'm really enjoying it now, and I was wondering if the controls are siimilar between that and Eternal on PS4?
For reference, I'm using the control scheme which has:
L1 Jump
R1 Weapon Wheel
X Use/Glory Kill
R3 Grenade

Yeah it sucks but it kinda makes sense. You'd kinda break the level if you could fast travel to the very end without unlocking the red, yellow, blue key cards throughout the level. I think they should've just gave us a slayer gate menu after finishing a level.

Or just an option to load up a level from a state where fast travel is unlocked.

Ah well I was talking about the cult base...

Just reached gore's nest, think that's the first level with the yellow blue and red key cards

Anyways, now I know not to skip them at all.

Finished the game earlier today. Incredible game. I had slight issues with DOOM 2016 but this was an incredible ride from start to finish.

My only complaint was the marauder enemy which usually killed the pace of whatever encounter I was in but atleast they weren't overly plentiful.

Thanks and sorry I am posting damn near 24 hours later. I just shut all tech down last night after posting what I did in attempt to hopefully fall asleep at a normal time and was a long day at work today, so just checking back now. It didn't work by the way shutting off from all tech. My mind was racing for damn near 2 hours thanks to this game.

I do think I really kind of enjoy it overall, it is incredibly hectic and intense. But seriously it is not something I can play every day. Especially after a long day of work like I had today. Will revisit it again over the weekend. I think this is basically going to be the game I play for the next few months here and there.

Seriously though thanks for confirming I am not the only person that feels this way. I really thought I may be losing my touch so to speak. Turns out it is just a crazy intense game. I appreciate hearing it was not just me.

Seems like nobody's posted this yet? Battlemode is getting rebalanced only in console.

However, after weeks of great community feedback, we agree that Slayers on console are at a slight disadvantage due to the lower overall DPS output possible on a controller. Against the best teams, Slayers were finding it difficult to do enough damage in the small windows the current balance on demons and their abilities were providing.

It is our hope that this patch will bring the challenge for Console-Slayers more within reach and the overall feel of the match will be more consistent now between all platforms.

I'm at the final boss on Ultraviolence difficulty in 36 hours and have collected every secret, didn't beat the Master Levels yet. One of my favorite of the generation, by far! It's so fucking great.

Without spoiling the story or anything like that, is it possible to unlock the masteries for all the weapons before the end? I am at the point where I was warned "if I go through the portal I will not be able to return to the fortress until the mission is complete" and despite 100%ing every mission so far, I still haven't fully modded my arsenal yet and would like to before finishing my playthrough. Or maybe there's a new game+ or something?

I hear that. After a long day of work and watching my kid at the same time, I'm usually too tired to feel like playing something as intense as this game. Sometimes I play it anyway because i won't be able to otherwise, though. I've had pretty slow progress in that it can sometimes take more than two hours per level (and who fucking knows with this slayer gate I'm on lol), and I only get maybe one hour of play in every few nights.

I feel old as fuck lol.

There is the equivalent of new game+ after defeating the final boss.

It is possible to max every weapon on a single playthrough, but maybe not before the "point of no return." You can still upgrade the guns in mission though.

So as of now, I simply don't have enough gun points to unlock all the mod upgrades. I'm assuming the remaining levels will provide me with those, and I should save my mastery tokens to immediately unlock those mod masteries as I get them

You'll still earn weapon points in the levels after the PONR, and you can either unlock the final upgrades by doing the mastery challenges or using the tokens. After completing the story you can go back and play all the levels (on different difficulties, if you want) to get unlocks and additional weapon points.

Weirdly, the game seems to give MORE suit upgrade tokens than are needed to max the suit. Not sure if that's also true for weapons.

The story is still confusing but it's really coming together in these last couple levels with Samuel narrating it all.
The details on how hell operates and how heaven co-conspired with hell... it's mindblowing stuff! And I'm mad the story was told so clumsily!

Very stupid question probably. Apologies in advance.

Can I disable the multiple colors of the loot that showers up when you kill the monsters? In Doom 2016 it was all "gold/yellow" like, and it was OK, not obtrusive. But every video I see of Eternal with the color pinata bothers me. Can I...disable the colors and make it all Gold again? Or similar?
