Not really, no. I think they'll focus on power and form factor first, I doubt they'll spend a lot of time and money on quiet cooling.

Which would be a big mistake. The hardware of the Xbox One is put together in a vastly better way. All versions of Xbox One, btw.
PS5 needs to be as quiet as those....

This is field where Sony definitely cuts some corners so I am a bit concerned. It doesn't bother me when I am alone and on headphones but when I have someone over the jet sound during certain games is off putting.

I sure hope Sony prioritize noise this time around. Feels like I'm waking the whole household when playing on my pro at night...

They better. I had to fix my PS4 Pro myself to reduce the noise (thankfully it worked). This is why I will not buy the PS5 at launch. I want to hear from people first. Microsoft can make silent consoles so there is no reason for Sony not to.

I'm grateful that it doesn't really bother from any fan noise. Maybe the hearing aids didn't pick this pitch compare to the hearing.

My PS4 Pro absolutely screamed when playing Death Stranding. I opened it up, replaced the thermal paste, blew out all the dust, and it made very little difference, if any. Meanwhile, my Xbox One X is still as whisper quiet as the day I got it. Maybe Sony should just make consoles that handle cooling better.

I did the same with liquid metal, together with the thermal pads. Did you forget those? Mine is whisper quiet for months now. I don't mind doing the same to the PS5 if it's sleek and doesn't look as hideous as Series X.

Even though I'm leaning toward PS5 next gen because of first party and compatibility, I got no problem getting SeX if Sony don't sort out the noise.

I'm not even greedy... I don't mind gentle hum. But some of their consoles have been appalling. The 60GB PS3 was the worst noise I've ever encountered. lol.

I didn't think the base ps4 was that loud. Never owned a pro though. I don't think it'll matter that much honestly. People will buy it unknowingly.

My launch ps4 is a jet engine anytime I play anything. Lately it's been overheating in like 20 minutes...I can't even play DMCV because it overheats too quick. I just got paste, pads, and will be operating on it this weekend....but I really hope this is fixed for next gen. Cause it's crazy how loud mine gets

I really hope so. My PS4 Pro is loud as hell and I regularly vacuum the fan/vents.
Meanwhile my Xbox One X is near silent.

It's a requirement for me to buy a PS5. I have a laughably loud PS4 Pro that I've retired to a dark closet. The shitty Pro hardware is a failure of engineering and Sony should be embarrassed that they ever sold that piece of shit. My old PS4 Amateur is still pretty silent no matter what I throw at it, I just use that now and enjoy the silence.

I'll let others beta test the PS5 for a while before I jump in. I rarely buy consoles at launch anyway.

I think it's the only thing people really complain about with PS4, besides the controller battery. I think there is a very strong possibility they will make that a design focus for PS5

It's never really been an issue for me personally, outside of a few scenes in GOW and Spider-Man

I sold my Pro and switched to Slim due to the noice, for me a silent console is important. PS5 better be silent.

I didn't realise just how much the noise of a console irritated me until I tried No Man's Sky on PS4 Pro. The noise that thing makes is absolutely outrageous.

I haven't turned my PS4 Pro (Destiny 2 White edition) on in months - the jet turbine noise that thing makes when under load is frankly shameful - the engineers should be ashamed. PS5 can't be worse, but I hope it's better....

I don't think so, they'll probably proudly pound their chest telling us it's not louder than the PS4 Pro.

It better be silent. I don't care how big it has to be, but I don't want another jet airplane in my living room.

Honestly, noise will be a deciding factor for me. Sony needs to convince me that PS5 is as silent as Xbox Sex. If not, I'm gonna have Sex.

It's one of those features that would be nice to have but mainstream audience doesn't care enough to pay for (it would mean higher price for the console). So I guess if they really nail the design PS5 could be less noisy but otherwise...dunno. I guess we will see.

Did we find out why he ps4 is so loud anyway? did it have to with the choice of fan bearing, bad airflow or the fans just spinning to fast?

I'm buying a ps5 day one regardless - but if it is as loud as my launch PS4, and now my pro - then I would seriously consider buying a series X for all multi platforms and keep the ps5 for exclusives only

Both my PS4 and my PS4 Pro have been absolute trash in terms of noise levels, especially the pro. It's so bad that I actively dislike using my PS4 Pro.

Sony needs to fix the garbage build quality the PlayStation brand has had for few years now.

It sounds like the poor thing is being tortured, I'm surprised it hasn't crashed or died from how hard it's working to not melt.

For the platform that is most focused on "immersive" and "cinematic" experiences, yes they absolutely need to better with cooling/noise.

The fan is really small. Same size as laptop fans. They are the worst. Microsoft uses normal CPU cooler 120mm fans. They are way quieter and have a better cooling effect.

just cheeked the internals and its actually worse than just small, its a freaking blower!

Those things just need to go away...

Oh here is the xbox one, just for comparison.

Seems to me like Sony forgot those, not me. You should be asking Sony to have that shit pre-installed in the PS5, not pre-emptively getting ready to do it yourself.

Exactly this.
Sony started to use those freaking blowers since the PS3 slim. MS used three of them in the 360. The DVD drive and the three blowers sounded like a jet engine. But they changed it with the Xbox One gladfully.
Nintendo uses a blower too with the Switch. I think Nintendo began using them with the GameCube.

All they need to do is just get rid of that cheap blower fan for a quieter solution like the one used in Xbox One X or some other technique for their PS5. And they'll be golden.

But I won't get my hopes up. This is Sony.

Considering how much feedback they have had, I would be absolutely surprised and shocked of they didn't address the fan problem when designing the PS5.

Not really had any issues with noise since getting my launch Pro it's virtually inaudible other than map/title screens and most games have patched that out.

My launch ps4 started out really quiet but got really loud a couple of years in. That was the only reason I actually moved to the pro
