lol, god no, but way better than I did for the longest time.

Until September, for about a year and a half, I could never sleep more than about 2-3 hours straight. That was a good sleep. Most nights it was in 30 minute to one hour chunks, often with hours between them. I was averaging 3 or so hours a night. It was getting worse too. The last few months 3 hour stretches were pretty much gone. 2 hour stretches were getting rare. For over a year and a half. Obviously, I was in a constant state of exhaustion. I would fall asleep in the car, at my desk at work, at work after I started working from home. Terribly destructive behavior. I relied on tons of sugar and caffeine to get through my days and even then, I could never relax or I'd pass out at the worst times. Like, hanging out with my wife at night, I had to sit on the edge of my seat and constantly stay busy or I'd pass out. Not for long of course, at least most of the time, but long enough to spoil the evening.

I went and saw a sleep specialist and did a sleep study. I was having well over 100 "incidents" an hour. Stopping breathing. They got me a C Pap and initially wanted me to also use supplemental oxygen with it, but when I saw the cost of the oxygen tank, I convinced them to let me try the C Pap without it first and thankfully that alone brought me down into a healthy range. I was hesitant about getting the CPap because I had some bad experiences with doctors when I was young and I try to avoid them, plus I didn't want something else to maintain forever. The first time I got to sleep using one though (at my sleep study) I was immediately sold. Even that terribly uncomfortable sleep in a strange bed with tons of wires uncomfortably attached to me was better than any sleep I'd had in over a year.

I now sleep okay. No more waking up every 1-3 hours. I can fall asleep and stay asleep until its time to wake up, which is an absolute blessing. The C Pap really does work. Like, life changing levels of work. I feel amazing. The problem is more that my body got used to functioning on so little sleep that it has a hard time sleeping for long periods. Oh, I get more than 3 hours a night. But I probably average around 4.5-5 hours most nights. Sometimes less. Sometimes more. A few weeks ago I slept 8 hours straight. I don't remember the last time I had a day where I felt that good. Most nights though, five hours is pretty good. Its in one stretch now, but I wake up at that point feeling wide awake. Laying there is useless. I can't go to bed with my wife like I did before these issues started. She goes to bed around 10-11 at night, has to with her work schedule. I end up waking up at like 4 wide awake. That wouldn't be so bad if I didn't work until 9, and waking up at 4 just makes it too hard to do that. So now I stay up until 1-2 each night, sometimes 3-4. Then I sleep until somewhere between 8 and 9:30. Still, I don't feel exhausted all the time. I don't just randomly fall asleep. I can actually relax at night, kick back. I have the energy to eat decently and exercise again. Some of my creativity and desire to write has come back. I feel like myself again. Could be a lot worse.

I feel like i sleep terrible. I try to get 8 hours a night but usually toss and turn all night and for some reason I wake up at 4am every night and won't fall asleep again till 5am.

OP, if all other aspects of your health are fine and you've ruled out things like sleep apnea, just do whatever you can to simply accept the fact that sometimes your sleep is gonna suck. And as long as it's not so bad that you're unable to function without hurting yourself, just get out of bed and don't think about your shitty sleep at all for the rest of the day. Don't google insomnia remedies or advice nonstop. It's hard, but I promise it's doable.

There was nothing more effective for me to get over my stress-related insomnia (which it sounds like yours is as well) than just accepting that I'm gonna sleep like shit sometimes, and it's not the end of the world.

Sorry to hammer on this point, but there are so many people who mention waking up it the middle of the night (both here and elsewhere), and again I want to stress that uninterrupted sleep is NOT an absolute necessity and it's pretty normal to wake up during the night.

www.headspace.com

Is it normal to wake up in the middle of the night? - Headspace

There’s a new sleep in town.

Should you be waking up constantly during the night? No. But if you wake up once (or even twice occasionally) in the middle of the night, it's biologically normal.

My bed and mattress are bad, so not really. I dream of owning a good mattress someday... must be nice ☺

50% of the time I wake up okay the other 50% I hate everything.

Sleeping much better now than I used to. My problem now is that I might be sleeping too much some days and just wake up tired anyway.

I'm normally asleep within a minute or two of closing my eyes, but only get 6-7 hours of sleep with terrible amounts of REM sleep but loads of deep sleep. It takes a toll during the day.

I have a newborn and a toddler so absolutely not. Lucky to get a few hours these days.... Started taking Melatonin which helped before baby. I'll be going back on that once some form of sleep routine is established.

Yeah I normally sleep like a rock and only wake up once in the very early morning before turning over and going back to sleep. Hope I can continue to do so.

I get about 6-7 hours of sleep and I don't feel I sleep well. I need about 8 or 9. Also, I think I'm getting too stressed, which is affecting my sleep.

I never wake up due to weather or earthquakes like other people I know.

7 hours like a baby. Helps that I workout most days and have kept my schedule as close to pre-pandemic as possible.

With melatonin, I at least fall asleep now, but I have nightmares a lot and they sometimes wake me up. And if my cats make noises, it tends to wake me up. And I also have a hard time figuring out what to do with my arms while sleeping? Like, I don't want them under anything because then they fall asleep and I freak out about it, but otherwise I just... don't know what to do with them? And I'm pretty much always worrying about something, so I tend to wake up too early because I just stress.

No.

Insomnia and painful symptoms from my multiple sclerosis keeps me awake till like 3/4AM, sometimes later sometimes up for 24hrs. Though thankfully that's very rare.

Almost 5 years of this shit now.

In general i sleep between 1 and 4 hour. Waking up several times in between. Once every couple of months i can sleep for the whole day. Most of the time it takes me an hour or 2 to fall asleep. Sometimes in the middle of the day I feel really exhausted, and if i can I'll try to sleep but can't, because I am to tired.

I used to be able sleep a lot. Now for some reason I can't.

Not really.

Had some weird hallucinations last night that don't even feel or register as dreams. Was weird.

When I finally fall asleep I do, but I'm a light sleeper and it can take me a while. If a noise wakes me up, then I'm right back to trying to fall asleep again. I discovered ASMR a few years ago and that really helped. As long as I have my sleep headphones with me, I can be out in a few minutes.

Usually. I wake up after like 7 hours of sleep and fall back asleep for the last 1-2 hours to really feel like I got a good night's sleep.

It does take me a while to fall asleep though. Need to work on that.

For me, feels like i havent had a good night of uninterrupted sleep for the longest time. Wake up for bathroom, random itch, cat meowing, small noises in the house you name it, i wake up. I used to take cbd oil for it, but it affected my mood too severely using it long term. Ive had checks and they tell me im in top condition with no issues apart from slightly lower than normal blood pressure. I work out, eat well, and keep caffeine to a minimum. They wanted to give me xanax at one point, but that hardcore shit scares me so i refused.

Im jealous of anyone who has 8 hours a night, uninterrupted!

If you're woken up by low sound look into earplugs.

When I have my earplugs and sleep shades on, I sleep like a motherfucker. Without them - and I don't even remember the last time that happened - it's just so-so.

Purple mattress and some magnesium.

Out like a light. Wake up at 5:30 every morning without an alarm.

So I sleep okay

but in the last month or so I've somehow gotten restless leg syndrome ? So I'm about to finally pass out then the nerve in my right leg just makes me kick my leg out in the air like a dog or cat would randomly when they spaz or something. Every damn night only once it happens per night and I'm so confused

I slept really bad until I got a good mattress ( I think it's a leesa?), now I only have bad nights when I have stomach acid problems.

- The later I go to bed, the less interrupted my night of sleep will be.
- If I don't wake up a few times during the night, it's an accomplishment.
- I'm a heavy sleeper. Very random something other than myself will wake me up.
- Normally, I fall asleep fast, within 5-10 minutes of my head hitting the pillow.

My sleep used to be pretty bad too. I would wake up in the morning upset and disappointed because it was just so unsatisfying.

I got a weighted blanket to try to help and holy shit did it improve my sleep so much! I've been using it for almost a year now and every day since I wake up feeling rested. I don't wake up randomly in the middle of the night either. I have a toddler that sleeps with us sometimes and she doesn't wake me up if she's crying or moving around.

Give it a try. I use a 15lb blanket.

Oh, melatonin also helps me sometime.

Nope, i work nights into the morning during the week day and I'm lucky to get 2-3 hours a sleep, but I'm used to it now. I cherish my sleep when I'm off and no one better wake me up for no good reason.

this is another thing it takes me so long to fall asleep too even though I make sure no screens hours before sleep etc stay away from bright lights still takes me a long time to fall asleep it sucks

I'm exactly like you. None of that BS works and I workout most days like my life depended on it. I started getting into deep sleep pretty much immediately by putting some audiobook on. My brain focuses on the book so I don't start the merry go round of insanity that can dominate your thoughts and its enough background noise that once I'm all the way out I don't wake back up again

I haven't slept on a bed in forever, but I get decent sleep on my couch.
Also, I tend to have pretty vivid dreams which seem to correlate with relaxing sleep for me. I think ever since I started keeping a dream journal, my sleep quality has stayed pretty consistent.

I sleep like a rock when given the chance, but that's probably because of exhaustion. I don't get enough sleep.

I sleep well enough on most days but I wake up every single morning feeling like absolute garbage. Haven't felt refreshed in years, or a decade by now. Sleep specialists, polysomnographies and whatnot haven't been able to help me much. There doesn't seem to be anything objectively wrong but I feel terrible every morning and it's probably the root cause of the depression I have developed over the last few years.

Good, restful sleep is a blessing. Enjoy it.

Yep, I easily fall asleep.

I'm out within 5 minutes the moment my head hits the pillow. I usually get between 6-8 easily

Pretty much this.

I remember back in the day (2007-2011) - I would rarely sleep.

My life was different from back then. I would play MMOs, had no education and was single - also had a very unhealthy diet.

Completely the opposite now, I dont play MMOs, graduated and work in IT , married and a very tight/strict diet nowadays.
