3D Zelda is just so much more interesting, better gameplay mechanics, much better puzzles, more interesting world, better mini games and side quests. OoT is better.

I need to play OoT with a 2020 head on to really assess this. I've played aLttP with a 2020 head on and it is still one of the all time greatest.

It's A Link To The Past.

It's not the first Zelda I played, but it is my absolute favorite. (I have yet to play BOTW, just got a Switch on my birthday.)

I agree with werezompire about Twilight Princess as far as 3D Zeldas go.

And to be fair, the soundtrack is aces and it's better than a lot of other games in the franchise, including OoT.

LTTP holds up better imo. Both are still excellent but the early 3D games can still be a little rough vs. the polished and perfected 2D experience.

A Link to the Past has maybe aged better, but Ocarina of Time is the better game. When it first came out, Ocarina of Time made Hyrule feel so real in a way that ALTTP didn't for me.

Ocarina of Time by a substantial margin. A Link to the Past is terrifically well-designed (as is OoT) but 3D Zelda clicks with me far more than 2D Zelda.

Both near perfect games, but Ocarina is embedded into my mind as the mental definition of "adventure".

LTTP and its not even close.

LTTP has held up much better over time IMO. Though I also enjoyed it when it was new, and having also played OOT when it released. The transition to 3D was a bit rough for OOT, and even at the time it felt a bit janky to play. LTTP being a top down game, everything is much more precise, and the controls still feel good to this day. The combat in OOT is one of the things I hate most tbh, as it feels slow and annoying. While I think OOT is a good game, I have no desire to actually play it.

Being cultured, A Link to the Past of course. Game is a masterpiece.

Finally played Ocarina 2 years, and it was already, albeit mostly just Link to the Past again with a worse camera.
The field parts of the game were really boring.
I feel the same way about some of the other 3D Zelda games when I say that the dungeons were the only reason to play.

Shadow Temple however was a lame gauntlet with one critical path. That one should have been cut.

Just doesn't come close, though I still really appreciate it for being an early 3D game that holds up pretty well.

Side note: For years I heard folks complain about the water temple, and that turned out to be the best part. That dungeon definitely surpassed what they were able to do with 2D by being all about memorizing how a physical space keeps changing.

OoT is the classic that ALttP will never be. ALttP doesn't feel like the end of a jouney when it ends, it feels more like the end of a long day at work and putting on netflix.

Ocarina for me. I just find it more memorable for its atmosphere and ambition.

That said, I'm more likely to trust the opinions of ALTTP fans on average because they tend to align more with my taste in general.

ALttP by far. It's as perfect as games come.

OoT did some interesting things but muddy / choppy graphics (even for its time), tinny music, copy-paste caverns and an uninteresting overworld also made it a bit disappointing.

Both are amazing. Both were my favorite games of all time at one point. I prefer 3D Zelda though, so OoT gets the victory here.

ALTTP used to be my favorite game of all time, so of course I gotta go for that. OoT was amazing in all ways, but had enough roadblocks in the gameplay experience to bring it down. OoT was still exploring the possibilities of 3D gameplay, while ALTTP completely mastered 2D gameplay.

Both are great, but Ocarina of Time is still my 2nd favorite game ever.

Also, why has no one made a better LttP? Link's Awakening & Link Between Worlds are both good, but neither one of them is a big step up from LttP like LttP was compared to the original Zelda. it's been nearly 3 decades.

OoT for the purely shallow reason that it was my first Zelda and I played it enough to actually remember where most everything is.

LttP is timeless. Ocarina is a chore to play now (imo, the controls have aged terribly), and always felt like 3D Lttp, anyway.

I'm a bit biased because I owned a Genesis instead of an SNES and didn't play ALTTP contemporaneously. I think graphically ALTTP certainly aged better, but I'm not sure any game has ever topped the first experience I had with ZOoT - it was magical/perfect.

I also have to say that I've never been enamored with the 'Dark/Shadow World' concept we've seen in some Zeldas like ALTTP and in Metroid Prime 2, whereas the time/age shift in ZOoT I loved.

Ocarina of Time without a doubt.

ALttP is just too damn clunky (and antiquated) for me, tried playing it a couple of times and always gave up by the end of the 3rd dungeon.
Ocarina also has the awesome remaster on the 3DS, because I doubt I would have given it a chance if it weren't for that.
(<20 fps in PAL regions, YUCK)

On top of that ALBW is just much, MUCH more enjoyable to me.

LttP by a mile. I couldn't count how many times I've played through it, especially after discovering the Randomizer.

I think in the past 2 years, I've only played LTTPR. Its brought so much new life to the game. Plus new options are always getting added. The door rando is a mode I've been playing lately, but its not in the official randomizer yet.

OOT has a randomizer as well, for the fans of the game, just fyi.

A Link to the Past and it's not even close.

I've tried playing Ocarina of Time multiple times. I've never completed it. Every time it gets boring and while it has aged decently it's still not great. A Link to the Past, on the other hand, has aged like fine wine. I played A Link to the Past for the first time in 2013. It was as good in 2013 as any video game released that year. It's near perfect.

Ocarina of Time deserves a lot of credit for how revolutionary and influential it was. Most 3D action games still use mechanics and design principals first introduced in Ocarina of Time. But A Link to the Past is just an all around better video game.

The time shift was pretty much just a dark/shadow world, though, lol.

Link To The Past.

It's the top tier, top-down Zelda.

I love The Ocarina Of Time, but it was the first 3D game. They improved the formula with just about every later 3D entry.

No subsequent 3D Zelda title has surpassed OOT in every way. Be it pacing, OST, dungeons, side-quests, mini-games, World-building and more, OOT may have been surpassed in each of these individual categories on separate occasions but never all at once. Each subsequent title has grave deficiencies somewhere or other that preclude it from being superlative. They seem incapable of improving upon OOT across the board, rather always improving some aspects strictly at the expense of others. This is why OOT is so revered; it may not be the best in any one category but no other Zelda game, nay any game, does so well in so many different ways.

A Link to the Past. Actually never cared much for Ocarina of Time despite the series being one of my favorites. It's my least-favorite of the 3D Zelda games. A Link to the Past has just aged a lot better, in my opinion. Get rid of the magic meter altogether and the game would be damn near perfect.

I know that OOT we will as most players here didnt grew up with the snes era. But i prefer the open world of lttp. A OOT game combined with lttp world and lttp music is best of what you can get for a classic zelda game.

While OOT has good music, in aint better than lttp. Also those items for lttp are more diverse.

I feel like TP is mostly "OoT but noticeably better." Twilight Princess has better controls, better combat, better dungeons, a better overworld, and better graphics (other than dungeons, those are all areas where I felt like OoT did poorly). Midna is a better character than anybody in OoT. Don't remember side-quests/mini-games but I don't play Zelda games for that. Pacing isn't great, but all of the 3D Zelda games have poor pacing IMO.

I'm not a 2D loyalist and so I can say with no bias that Ocarina of Time is the far superior game.

ALttP should focus on defeating ALBW before talking big game about being better than Ocarina.

LttP can be better than OoT and worse than LBTW...because they're both better than OoT.
