Today I woke up and quite frankly, just didnt feel like going in to work today. So I called in sick. I needed a mental rest day also

Anyone do this from time to time?

Taking a mental health day off is completely reasonable, just don't overdo it. It can be quite therapeutic.

Edit:

Though I cannot remember ever having taken a day off work without feeling properly sick

No. I'd rather save them for when I'm actually sick. If something serious happens I'll feel pretty dumb using them as personal days.

Used to, not anymore. At this point, since I usually work from home and been with the company long enough, I just take personal days and say that I have some shit to take care of.

I don't even call out when I am sick.

My work won't be done in my absence and it'll be my fault if it's late.

I consider a mental health day as "sick". I have only taken one once or twice before. Other than that I don't do this.

Literally never in 9 years of full time work. It's dishonest and encourages your manager to trust you less if they find out what you're doing.

Mental health days, for sure. I guess you could call days where I'm overcome with anxiety as a sick day, though. I don't call out when I'm not "sick" in some capacity though. We have a very lenient leave policy at work so getting off days isn't really an issue for me, thankfully.

nope, i get 42 days worth of holiday a year here in germany. 30 from work/law. 12 are public holidays.

that's completely separate from sick days (there's no limit on that).

don't feel i need to use "sick days", we have our law mandated holiday for this to use as we please. when I feel a bit burned out... I take holiday, if that means 2 days (so like, take thursday/friday off, or friday/monday off for a nice long weekend), 1 week holiday, 2 week holiday... whatever i feel. i take it.

Before I was on the leadership team of my company? Absolutely. Now? Never. I know other people do it though, and I couldn't give a shit, you have PTO to use, use it for whatever you want.

No. If I want a day off, I give my manager notice and request PTO. Mental health days are cool and all, but I don't want my absence to make anyone else's day harder.

Only once. I worked at two bars. I worked day shift at one bar and night shift at another. Did this Mon-Sat for 6 weeks. I couldn't take it anymore. Came home at 4am and decided "There's no fucking way I'm working for the next 24 hours."

As someone being at an employer for only 1 year at a time max, working is a blessing and I only call in sick if I can't see or I'm coughing my lungs up.

If I want to want a day off I just request one.

All the time, they are my days, work can fuck off.

Often times it's just cause I feel I need the day. It's a mental health day for me. Other times I'm hungover as fuck.

Luckily I'm in a union and I can take two consecutive days without any doctors note. Unless they see a pattern develop, like every like first Friday of every month or something

Yeah. I believe this question was asked before in a separate thread but I honestly work why harder than my slack ass coworkers so I need to take advantage of it more and call in sick. Maybe next week.

I don't have limited sick days at my workplace. That being said, I don't do this very frequently. I've maybe done it once.

I typically use sick days when I'm actually sick and need rest to get back to 100%.

I haven't in a long time and should. I usually just request some days off if I don't have any vacations planned and am getting near my PTO cap just so my accrued time isn't wasted.

A few times a year when I'm really comfortable in bed and can't be bothered to get up I will, nowhere near as often as a lot of people I work with though

these threads are occurring too frequently now. guys, if your boss uses commas in unnecessary ellipses, don't post in this one.

I used to this a lot on mondays. So much that after a while I didn't even have to call in, they knew I just didn't feel like working when I wasn't in. Stopped doing it after I got promoted though.

Normally not, but if it's one of those days and I know that there is absolutely nothing to do at work... maybe.
But even then I check Slack regularly just in case something is going on.

That's my secret, Captain. I'm always sick.

(I have a fixed amount of PTO that sick leave counts against, and no one else depends on the strict timeliness of my work.)
