I have a "dream job" and there's some days I just don't feel like being there. Though I'm happy/satisfied probably 75% of the time.

There are million other things that I'd rather do. Learn how to play music, draw, workout, travel, etc.

I don't hate it, but I don't enjoy it. It's fine and even fun when my coworkers are in, but they work from home a lot so it can be a bit boring in the office.

I'm a project manager and there's a handful of us and we make our own hours and can work from home if we feel like it, so it's very hit or miss on who is in the office, other than me. I prefer to work from there since I have a 1 year old at home.

I have a great job that pays well. I don't like going to work. I don't hate it and bitch about it all the time either but still. How could there be nothing at all you would rather be doing?

I spent my 20's chasing high finance salaries. Working 80+ hours constantly. Breaking dates and meet ups. Hardly vacationed. Buying a new watch or some ridiculous purchase only helped for so long.
Stress and mental health suffered greatly.

Definitely look back and understand the whole meaning of "there's no dollar value for peace of mind."

New company/career is interesting hopefully I love it as much as my co-workers appear to.
This sounds a bit like me, except I never made it and my hours never got that bad. I had a back-office job at a fund administrator where the last several months I worked 60 hour weeks routinely, and I decided that enough was enough (several years ago). Some people that stayed at that company long enough eventually got high paying jobs elsewhere, but I don't think anyone I know from that place ever made it to the buy side/a front office role, which is what I dreamed of.

Corporate finance, which is ultimately the path I went down, hasn't been quite a walk in the park, either, though. The job that I just resigned from reminded me a lot of the back-office job that I used to have in terms of work atmosphere and stress and more recently, hours. Currently pondering what life might be like if I bother to get an MBA.

Yep, I fucking love my job. Granted I'm self-employed so I have all the freedom I could ever want, but I love getting up in the morning and coming to my office.

We're currently on Christmas/New Year holiday here in NZ so everything has been closed for two weeks (which means no clients) and I've been bored shitless just counting down the days until the world starts up again (Monday 6 January, so only two sleeps to go).

I have one job I don't like so much, but I also started working at a school and tbh in my mid 30's I finally feel like I found something I'm good at and that I enjoy. It turns out I'm actually really good with kids, and I have kids who are doing great and everything but I never thought I'd be able to handle them so well in packs haha

I like my job. It would be my hobby if not my profession. I could never afford to design as complicated of systems on my own though.

This new job was supposed to be better. Work from home with 20% travel. It's now been more like 80% travel and I barely see home. Haven't found a job I like yet and I'm getting on in years.

I don't mind it. That's the only thing I care about. If you believe you have to have fun at work, you are delusional.

I dislike going to work.

I like it when I'm there, time usually flies and I find it fun and educational. I also have some great co-workers.

But ultimately I usually wish I could stay at home most times when I wake up.

I really like my boss, as does everybody else in the company and I want to earn his respect as an engineer and as teacher.

My job is to build and fix machine learning software. It's a cool, reasonably sexy field. Google just invested in our company which is always nice.

I get 20 days off a year + 10 federal holidays and I can travel to other offices in NYC, Paris, London, Sydney, Singapore a couple times a year if I want to.

Most days, I don't have to go to the office if I don't want to. Most of my work can be done remotely.

I get to work on internal programming projects I pick if I want to.

We have a very active slack server with a lot of smart people contributing cool articles about the world / tech.

There are some negatives as well, to be sure, but in the grand scheme of things, they're not worth mentioning.

My advice is to brave your fears and never settle for a job that doesn't make you grow and feel happy.

Honestly stunned that Yes/Sometimes makes up over 50% of the vote. I have a relatively cushy office job and every single Monday morning I find myself at a slightly lower emotional rock bottom than the week before

If you mean attending to my job, then yes, I usually do.

But going there is a hassle, it's a 25min walk and it's always hot af in my city and I get there soaked in sweat every single day.

fuck no.

my job pays me well for what i actually have to do on a daily basis but i hate the industry and circumstances often require me working on what should be my days off, working overtime, working different shifts, &c. and the commute fucking sucks.

the worst thing is, its literally not possible for me to work elsewhere given my current situation. i am making strides towards establishing alternate sources of income and monetizing creative endeavors, but we'll see.

also, just in case the question was meant more generally: im in my mid-30s now, and have worked a variety of jobs in a variety of places. some ive even liked a bit. but ive NEVER enjoyed going to work and cant imagine EVER feeling that way.

Yes and No.

Yes because i love what i do and as hard as i work, i feel great making an impact in my area of work

No because some of my peers can be the laziest of people and half-ass it most of the time which leads to mistakes.

Sometimes yeah. I love bartending but the thing is that it's pretty draining for an introvert like me. As soon as I get behind the bar, I'm immediately on stage in front of everyone in the restaurant and being consistently in the spotlight can be a little challenging mentally and emotionally sometimes. There's also the fact that I always open the bar and it's usually me finding out what went wrong/missing the night before.

I definitely wish that I didn't have to work but I don't mind my job at all and we're genuinely trying to help people which is a plus. There are always bad days or little things that might annoy me from time to time but overall I have very few real complaints about my job.

I never got this attitude. When I worked at Wonderbread one job was legit standing in one place and placing trays of bread dough on racks for eight hours straight with minimal breaks and some people really loved that.....

I hate working of any kind really. I hate every job I've had. I'm currently looking for a new one and I know I wont enjoy it either.

I hate work so much. This is the only life we have and we spend it making so rich cocksucker richer.

Very much. I dread the weekend and the past three weeks for holiday break have been really tough on me. Genuinely looking forward to Monday when the break is over.

No. I feel conscripted into a societal framework I never wanted because of it. Alienated, if you will.

I should add: I miss my job working as a receiver in a warehouse back in my college days. Small place, just me and another dude who handled all the shipping, paper work etc. I just unpacked all the pallets, checked everything off and then put it away on the shelves so he could pick it for orders. Super low stress. Could just listen to podcasts all day. Took long lunches. Bantered with delivery drivers. Was an amazing escape from having to use my brain in school. I never had bad days but had I stayed forever, I'd be making a lot less and ultimately be unfulfilled in life.

Most of the time I do, but not every day. Depends on the weather, how I feel, what's happening that day, etc. but generally speaking, I enjoy my job.

I don't work anymore thanks to mental illness, but I honestly can't say I miss anything about it, other than the money it brought me. I've worked retail, office, printing, graphics, and web development, and despised each and every one of them. (Although a side gig as a published daily cartoonist wasn't bad.)

Teacher. It's usually great, or at least decent. There are always periods of the school year that I absolutely don't want to go into work, though. Burnout is real, shitty admins/students/parents are real.

Yeah its pretty great. Career wise Im a little confused re: how I got to this point but being surrounded with good people with a good project in a good atmosphere while being paid fairly is something to be happy about

Kinda, it gets me out and socialising and moving around. But I frikin' hate waking up at 5 in the morning five days a week. (I know that a lot of others have it worse, I work with vendors and truck drivers who start their day at 1 or 3 in the morning)

I'd like to play music for a living though, I could love that I think.
