I just had super good sushi take out and it's one of those things, i know i want to dip it DEEEEEP in that sauce but i know it's wrong and unfashionable and probably bad for my health, so i try not to do it too much in front of other people and just wait until they go to the bathroom or something,

What about y'all, how salty do ya like it

Just depends. Regular joints? I whip up my soy sauce wasabi slurry and dunk like Michael Jordan.

Much higher end stuff? Less so.

Really depends on the specific fish and quality. Marinated salmon sushi? Don't dip. Plain tuna sushi? All the things

I use soy sauce sparingly as I want to taste the fish, not the sauce. My wife who was born and raised in Japan dips it right in as do many of her Japanese friends so I'm not sure that the notion that it's incorrect or inauthentic to do so is accurate.

Sushi chefs would have heart attacks reading about the people that do the wasabi soy sauce sludge paste thing. They're supposed to be separate for the two very unique flavors they give

Midgar, With Love
Using a new toothbrush, I gingerly caress the outer edges of the sushi until I've formed multiple little "folds" in the rice. I press each fold into a ripple by breathing gently into a plastic straw. Once several ripples have emerged on the sushi, I smooth the contours with one-part wasabi to two-parts eel sauce. By this point, the individual pieces look not unlike a seafood stegosaurus. To ensure that the one-part wasabi to two-parts eel sauce slumbers soundly within the stegosaurus-esque slices of sushi, I attach a paper clip to all four corners. The paper clip allows excess one-part wasabi to two-parts eel sauce to stream down to the plate without ruining the aesthetic. I remove the paper clips prior to consumption.

also this^ why do people think top sushi chefs are so revered? There's an art to it, They construct their menus, their serving sizes, ingredients in a certain way to give you the full ideal taste experience they're intending. Nowhere did I say " don't do this", go off all you want dunk it in every eel/mayo/spicy/ teriyaki sauce. Just that there's a way Top sushi is suggested to be eaten , there's a history to it.

I put the wasabi in the soy sauce then dip my sushi on its side into the mixture then eat it.

I'm a heathen.

Really though, who cares. Enjoy your food! Never mind lots of sushi places don't exactly have amazing fish quality, so all the more reason to do it.

I used to like soy sauce on sushi, but I prefer it without it now. It gives a similar flavor to everything.

Damn, I do it the right way, I take a small bit of the pickled ginger, I drown it lightly in soy sauce and put it on top of the sushi piece and then eat it, best taste if I do use the soy sauce and the correct way as far as I know.
