Nah. All the celebrities I like haven't been MeeToo'd yet so I haven't had to drop anyone who's content I really enjoy.

As far as tech companies go I typically keep the same computer/phone for 5+ years so I'm not gonna record myself burning my nikes to stick it to apple ect.

I uninstalled Rocket League after Epic bought them, despite putting in 1k hours across three platforms. I have no problem sticking to my ideals.

When something i am interested in has problematic elements to it, i evaluate whether they are bad enough for me to want to deny its creators/owners my money. If the answer is yes, then it depends on how much i still want to experience the content and whether i can experience it without giving said people any money. I have bought 3 Dragon Quest games in the last few months, all of them used. If i hadn't been able to find used copies, i very much doubt i would have bought them.

I'm not a fan of using the word boycott for every single individual decision of buying something or not. I prefer to use that word in the context of something like BDS, which is an organized thing with very specific goals in mind. The way some people use the word boycott on Era sometimes seems to imply that these corporations are owed your money and you're denying it to them. Which is all kinds of stupid. No one is owed what little money i have. Earn that shit. And being a shithead is not earning it. I will never buy Kingdom Come: Deliverance, not because i'm deliberately boycotting it, but because i find the politics that informed some of its design decisions abhorrent. Which in turn made me lose any interest in playing it.

And tbh i'm getting too old to give any shits about missing up on disposable things. I will never find the time to experience everything i want, even if i would cut out every 'boycottable" thing from the list. If i never play another Blizzard game again, my life will not be affected in any way, shape or form.

Haven't had Chik-Fil-A in years, haven't played CoD in years, have never spent a dime in the Eververse store, and now I won't be buying any Blizzard stuff for awhile. So yeah I really do boycott things, but obviously I don't boycott literally everyone that I disagree with.

And yeah it can suck sometimes, but having no principles or standards would suck worse in my opinion so I at least try.

What a weird Yes option. Yes, I boycott some things. No, I don't feel like I'm missing out and a puddle of regret and tears. I'm an adult. Boycotting isn't giving something up for Lent. The point isn't to punish myself, it's to not give money to companies doing activities I don't support.

No, >in my opinion< makes no sense to boycott something while using/consuming many others that are just as problematic (or more), but not in the spotlight at the moment.

And of course, it's impossible to boycott everything.

I have to boycott Nestle owned chocolates if they don't have the fair trade designation because of using child slaves. Got to boycott Nestle water because they want to privatise water and ruin local communities by pillaging water supplies.

There's BDS, too.

Boycotting films with known sexual harassers or assaulters.

I boycott Rockstar games because of many obvious reasons, when before I used to love Vice City and San Andreas, The Warriors, Red Dead Revolver, and Table Tennis. I boycott THQ Nordic published games because of their affiliation with 8chan that hosts child pornography among other vices, even though I'm interested in a few of their games.

Not 100% of the time, but I have been able to boycott a few things in life that I would otherwise genuinely like.

I'm on for boycotting Activision-Blizzard — I do like stuff from the publisher and was even looking forward to Modern Warfare this month but I also don't value the content I consume from them enough to feel like I'm missing out on much by dropping them, so it will be pretty easy to avoid going forward, and I'm also not feeling terrible about purging the existing content from my collection where I can, though I'm not convinced that doing so will actually achieve anything — they already got my money for that stuff.

I've been able to give up Chik-Fil-A for a couple of years now. I personally like the taste of their food and it's been hard to resist at times, but I've pulled it off and intend to stay the course.

but, on the other hand, giving up Apple isn't possible in my mind at this time, even though I strongly disagree with their actions in response to CCP pressure. The reasons why have a lot more to them than I have time to fully explore right now, but even if you hate Apple, I'll give the benefit of the doubt that you're able to reason out a few good reasons why it's not so easy to ditch. Also, in the realm of consumer technology in particular, I think every major player has dealings just as severe as Apple, they're just not having to about-face on their public-facing image and stated ideology about it like Apple is.

Entertainment and fast food? Easy. The tech that helps drive my daily existence? Mmm, not so easy.

It can be hard. I was using the buycott app for a while and just realizing how damn many companies are owned by shitty corporations made even buying groceries a challenge at times.

if i boycott it i no longer love it because any affection has curdled to hate.

however I also have options. I can avoid most of the crap that pisses me off, most of the time.

I think that the option is to people that would like to consume, but choose not to.

Like, I don't play anything Blizzard, so I can't boycott them.

I don't believe in boycotts but if I really have a problem that's strong enough it'll affect my view of the product to the point I don't wanna be there. Like I don't eat at chick Fla a, but I know I ain't putting them out of business.

I boycott anything, and I do mean anything, with palm oil in it. I have sacrificed so much stuff I enjoy just so I don't add to the deforestation and extinction all in the name of cheap oil.

It's more that the "yes" option implies people who boycott are feeling like they're missing out or regretful over their choices, when this is rarely how people who boycott actually feel.

Nothing is more satisfying to me than when I'm a tiny part of a boycott actually works and a big corporation has to grovel and eat shit.

I don't know why, but Brand New. I'll still keep Michael Jackson on, Bowie, Led Zeppelin, watch Rosemary's Baby. But I can't bring myself to get back into them or separate art from artist. I guess because I felt more of a personal connection to them for so long as I was growing up.

I am currently boycotting Konami for not releasing Suikoden 3 in Europe. That lasted until it was released on PS3. It went back on it again as they stopped making Suikoden games full stop.

EA for not releasing Mass Effect Andromeda DLC

Dragon Quest for not releasing a dlc patch on PS4.

Yes, but I haven't had a real challenge yet in terms of something I really love.

Most recently I guess the one thing I've successfully boycotted is Starbucks. I used to like it here and there but haven't bought it since that capitalist rat fuck Schultz reared his head from the shadows and started bitching about leftist candidates.

This website at times goes boycott crazy and at least half the time I agree with their reasoning, but it seems like people boycott stuff they either never cared about or circumvent by buying it "used" or from some other source where the company that makes it doesn't get their money directly. They don't deprive themselves of anything.

Anyone here boycott something they truly really like/love and feel bad that they can't have?
I'm gonna be blunt, this whole thread seems like it was made because you, for whatever reason, can't boycott and seeing all these people actually having some conviction and boycotting these companies is making you feel like a lesser person.

But instead of using this for a little bit of self introspection you instead use this thread to try and tear other people down.

I try to. I don't go to Walmart unless it is absolutely necessary (hard in my area because it's very rural and there aren't many choices). I won't touch games like Borderlands or anything Blizzard is putting out, though that's not really hard because I'm not really interested in them in general.

This one has been tough for me. Their music helped me through some tough times, so it's hard not to listen to it sometimes. I think part of what's so difficult about it is that their lyrics have always focused on relationships and guilt that you're not a better person... so now that we know the nature of those relationships and that guilt, the songs are permanently changed.

Nah, life's too short. Works hard enough. Consuming media, eating stuff are life's pleasures that are sustaining me so far. I don't have higher cause or praise worthy moral standards. I can acknowledge fucked up shit people do and I'm still gonna consume their works. I support people who have a spine and have a some sort of moral standing, but that ain't me when it comes to media consumption

Yes I do boycott, but I don't miss out as I usually just buy used.

I don't know if not supporting a company financially counts as a boycott still though.

"Just" entertainment can be a big deal to people - it can be hobbies, group activities, something that helps people go through the day, or something you enjoy on a complex, emotional and intellectual level, so don't trivialize it. You can say "just" for anything - like breaking up with someone and saying "it's just a person, there's so many of them". For me, a lot of that entertainment brings me great joy and happiness. At the same time I don't believe in boycotts (they are rarely effective and, at the same time, too selective - a true boycott is often impossible and a selective one is not that hard) so I choose not to automatically boycott something just because I disagree with a certain action of the company or someone in that company. Some people here really want to make you feel bad because of that view with logical fallacy phrases like "human rights are more important than games" (of course they are, but not everyone believes boycotts actually do anything for these rights).
unless youre boycotting all video games there are always other video games to play

hell theyre probably better than the ones you decided to stop playing anyway

same goes for anything else

I don't necessarily boycott anything entertainment related outside of WWE for a myriad of reasons. For controversial entertainers, I can still appreciate the art while disliking the artist.

Nope. I buy pretty much what I want when i want

That said, I haven't been made aware of something truly heinous done by the makers of products I enjoy. Some dude getting banned from competitive gaming falls far enough away from atrocity that I'm comfortable leaving my purchasing habits unchanged. If I was made aware of some horrible shit going down that my purchase was endorsing, I'd consider purchasing a competing product.

So if I buy Diablo 4 because I don't think avoiding it will help the poor people of Hong Kong in any way, I don't have a working morale compass?

Absolutely not. I don't boycott anything. I don't even try to and don't pretend to.
But It gets brought up so often here(especially lately) that I'm legit curious if y'all actually feel some kind of frustration or discomfort when you boycott shit. If it affects you in a meaningful way.
I just think the concept is a lot harder than it actually is and most don't feel that.

Yes, really really. I refuse to eat at Chic-Fil-A (my wife does, sometimes) or Papa Johns (though now that Schnatter is gone it might get a pass, though there's about a dozen local pizza places I'd rather eat at). I don't buy EA, Activision/Blizzard or Ubisoft games (though I received Mario + Rabbids and Diablo 3 as gifts, and I've softened by stance on Ubi lately). I refuse to shop at Gamestop.

I also avoid Wal-mart as much as possible (sometimes it's the only option if I'm traveling though).

Yes. I like Jimmy Johns subs (not love) but the founder's big game hunting turned me off. From what I understand the controversy stems from photos a decade old and he claims he doesn't hunt big game anymore, but his excuse came off as obvious damage control. I just can't after seeing those horrible photos.

Well when the majority of posts are "fuck Blizzard, their games are trash anyway" or what have you roughly along the lines of "I don't play their games so I'm already boycotting", I think you have your answer. I think that posters who had the objective of boycotting products in the service of denying business to companies that bolster the Chinese government, they'd have an absolute hell of a time actually accomplishing it. The relative ease of boycotting a game company that makes games every 10 or so years, unfortunately, comes with the truly minimal impact that such a boycott can have on the cause of supporting HK

I guess I do unintentionally? If I don't like something, obviously I'm not going to spend money on it.

As far as the Blizzard situation goes, Blizzard is a lot more than just the higher ups and I don't feel comfortable boycotting them since the higher ups are never going to suffer, just some lower grunt who might have a different opinion on China's fascism and complete disregard for human rights. If Blizzard actually feels the pain of a mass boycott, any number of the 4000+ employees are going to get let go long before someone like Brack does.
