Yeah, that's been my lifelong dream. Pursuing an education for it now. We'll see how everything goes.
QA tester or something like the nintendo treehouse or work for a gaming video channel sounds nice to me, full time dev tho? Nah not for me. Reggies job also is fine by me. So management, pr & marketing.
I don't want to sound like an asshole but I don't think I would be very proud of dedicating my life to video games. I would need to seek other avenues of giving back to society and I'm way too fucking lazy for that.
edit: apologies for language
Something like this, it doesn't need to be big, just to say one day that I worked on game X.I'm a software engineer and gaming was the reason why I started this whole career, although my current job doesn't have anything to do with gaming. But I have this dream of one day working on a game and publishing it on the playstation store. Doesn't need to be a big AAA game and I wouldn't expect it to be the next indie hit. But just being able to say: Well, this was made by me!

At least for me, it's because of the stories we see every few months about how the industry is a grueling hell for the people working there. What the hell is going on with the first page of replies here? You guys have a pretty f-ed up view on the industry if you think it's a grueling hell for the people working there.
Nah. Wouldn't want to deal with crunch/programming, wouldn't want to deal with "gamers".

Yeah this comes off pretty asshole-y.
People do what they are passionate about. If someone can do what they love and make a living from it, that's the best possible outcome for their own personal happiness
And at many places you can make games that touch people's lives or entertain hundreds or thousands or millions of people.
Maybe that doesn't seem like a noble cause to you, but believe me, people don't go or stay in videogames because of the money.
I used to when I was growing up. These days...not so much. I already lead a busy work life, not sure I can handle the stress of the games industry.
