I do but very rarely. Videogames, and the industry in general, just don't interest me anymore. I grew up playing game with an arcade play style. Now they're too long, too serious, no style unless you're into realistic graphics, and developers want money to unlock add ons. Thank God for firearms.

There's a lot of fanboyism.

It's tiring to read about how epic games is evil, PCs are better than next gen and also cost £299, Xbox Teraflop beast, PS5 SSD 8k rendering.

But there's still good stuff there.

Honestly I think if moderation started banning people for "FIRST" style one liner shitposts on the first page of a thread, I think it would improve the discussion quality considerably.

So many interesting discussions don't even start because someone decides to derail the thread.

Not that I'm saying I'm a worthwhile poster.

Sometimes it's better to observe and watch things play themselves out, there's only so much nerd rage in this world

I still love video games but on that side you have a large group of people who think Sony is their lord and savior who think's they can finally stick it to the PC master race, and a group of arrogant pc players who think everyone can afford/put forth the effort to have superior gaming rigs. Everyone has an agenda and its annoying.

On the multiplayer gaming side its just all, all negative to the point I wonder why they are even playing the game in the first place? It be one thing if it were interesting critiques but its all "(Insert developer here) sucks and don't know what they are doing and its why everyone is leaving this shitty game and playing (insert another title here)"

And while this is obviously an enthusiast forum, its kinda hilarious watching people kinda forget not everyone takes it as seriously as they do. Like wifi is a problem with fighting games (along with a large amount of their developers not giving a fuck to create solid netcode) because its harder to hide lag in comparison to fps. Fair.

But when the topic comes up its like 'People on wifi are PIECES of shit who cheat at the game and don't deserve to be playing it. FUCK THEM. Its intentionally malicious!!! If your on wifi...fuck it, game should ban you automatically!!!".

Okay, heihachi99, i get your rage but maybe your 15 year old opponents parents told him he couldnt wire ethernet from the basement router, lol.

I get the feeling that people who exclusively post here think they are the cool ones. Wrong! You're all just as dorky as the gaming side

I do sometimes, but there's far too many fanboys of corporations, which just makes every discussion a chore to read. How seemingly mature people can act so childish over toys is beyond me.

I'm intrigued, why do you need me, to break down PS5 teraflop data?

I haven't been playing videogames much over the last year. Don't have the energy.

If its not console war bullshit, it's review wars bullshit. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I only got time for weekend era nonsense and weird as fuck hygiene threads thanks

I don't enjoy discussing video games anymore. I play a game, finish it and move on on the next one.

Also gaming side has a weird habit of stating opinions, especially if they're negative, like they're full blown facts.

13.7% of my posting is on the Gaming forum, which is a pretty low number, but not insignificant. I don't think I'm better than anybody there, but the main thing that turns me away is just the unfettered rage that some people have over video games. For example, I played Pokemon Shield for 70 hours and had a great time. But then I try to browse a Pokemon thread over there, and it's like World War fucking 3 over the stupidest bullshit.

I mean no offense to that at all, by the way. People are free to get as emotionally vested into their hobbies as they like. It's just not for me. I love gaming, but I can't take it that seriously.

I will for the odd game I get really excited for but that rarely happens nowadays. Maybe with Cyberpunk or a proper Souls release.

I started on (the old site) because of video games and specifially the Halo community there. Was cool to see Bungie and 343 devs posting.

I stayed on this site for the off topic tho. It's good to catch gaming news but thats the only time I really venture there. Lots of dumb filler threads there like "WHATS YOUR FAVORITE GAME WITH A SWORD"
You're not wrong, but OT is filled with COOLEST CITY and BEST STAR WAR threads as well lol

I pop over there often, but just to read and browse... the topics are often super detailed and I don't know if I can jump in conversation. Here, it's frankly surface level, current events more often, so I'm able to participate.

I waffle, but I'm probably 70% off EtcetEra... for better or worse.

It was like this in the old days at GAF too. "Come for the gaming side, stay for the OT" was a meme. The off-topic side has always had its own thriving community.

I probably spend more time on gaming side overall. EtcetEra is too depressing and frustrating a lot of the time, and whilst both forums are full of people with agendas, often times the takes you'll find here are way more upsetting than seeing gamers masturbating over their favorite videogame company.

The console wars is too much over there. Certain community threads are fine (pc builders thread has always been solid), but lately it's just Sony is the only company to ever make games worth playing and that have good graphics. Then they get all self righteous about weird shit like defined console generations and microsoft ruining games by letting those filthy regular xbone owners keep playing games!

As much as I want to read about new game developments, it's hard to get past the OP

I browse over on Gaming but rarely post as I never seem to have anything to bring to the conversation these days. I do, however, always sub the monthly pick-up threads and the gaming setup one as I'm interested in seeing what people are getting.

I clearly don't like gaming enough to stick around.
I'll take peek once in awhile, but that's basically it.
I enjoy talking about movies and tv series mostly.

Signed up for the old place originally for the gaming side, over the years as I stopped playing multiplayer games as much the desire to talk about games died off and I ended up spending more time in OT. That carried on on the move here, I tend to buy and play fewer games these days maybe 3-5 games a year compared to the 10-15 a year I was buying a decade ago and generally those are single player RPG's and games on the Vive or PSVR. VR rekindled my love for gaming a bit and I still browse the gaming side but only to look for something specific I don't really care about every day gaming news or discussions anymore.

I'm about even. 1/5 more posts on here tho.

People acting as if the gaming side is beneath them might be the weirdest form of elitism I've seen in a while lol.

Grew up and my interest in gaming declined while my interest in world affairs, news, entertainment, and lots of other off topics increased

Video Games Are Dumb

also, I'm not super interested in the surface level discourse about games as much as I used to be. I got a life man, and games can just be fun and not everything

Z7TdB.gif

That and most posts are "would you like this game if the game was some other game" and usually the first 50 replies are "no"

High five for you because I notice you as someone who posts in both, and primarily as someone that is always bringing some really interesting topics forward about development and history of games. None of the console wars crap that derails any conversation.

WRT to gaming, I'd much rather talk about things I like, than things I don't like. There is so much technology in the field that are madly fascinating, why waste time on what is ultimately frivolous opinions that boil down to "stop liking what I don't like"?

I imagine things will pick up closer to the next gen releases, next game I was looking forward to was CP2077 and will now prob just get it on the next gen system at this point. Same deal with TLOU2 have not been keeping up but that's delayed as well so for anything I was interested in there's been a severe drought.

I have been posting more lately on gaming side. I'm quite sick and bored of COVID, doom & gloom news, Joe Biden, American politics, look what Trump said just now, and "is this American athlete the best of all time" threads, and the opinion of armchair specialists in fucking everything.

Like, I really got in a stressed mood just reading the bad shit happening in the world just entering in this damn forum. I can get the same results with Twitter, but at least I get to see funny shit from time to time.

Maybe I just like to chill and reading stuff from dumb videogames.

I'd say my time here is 80% off topic, 20% gaming. And of the 20% gaming, half of that is just the community threads I am subscribed to. So yes I do not spend a ton of time on the gaming side.

The elitism in this thread is hilarious. Gaming side is full of immature people and juvenile discourse while the adults are over here arguing about Star Wars.

I post over there but not often.

There's just not a ton of games that interest me enough to talk about, and any lengthy threads I've put effort into are doomed to the No Reply Zone. The only games I really play reliably are Red Dead Online, Super Mega Baseball, and maybe one or two games in the moment (Ori, etc)

For real. The last few Star Wars films have nearly broken OT. At one point after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, there was seemingly five new Star Wars threads every day for months on end.

I'm at about a 6:1 ratio for etc to gaming posts. I just don't game as much as I used to. Currently since I'm at home a lot more I've started gaming again, but before that I didn't pick up a controller since last summer.

I still view Gaming side a lot, just more of a lurker. Etcetera is honestly nearly as bad as gaming, for me though I'm more likely to engage in more heated threads here since it's more likely something I actually care about. I have no energy to jump into heated gaming threads.

I check in on it every so often, and I watch threads for games I care about. Right now, those are fewer and further between.

I usually post about M.U.L.E. and get ignored.

Also too many "whats the best/worst?" threads or threads that start with "Am I the only one?" or "We need to talk about ..." And I shut my brain off

I always check Wednesdays for mediacreate tho. For funsies.
