A few buddies and I were talking last night about 2019 movies and after looking at the calendar of expected movies, Disney's 2019 is going to be insane.

Star Wars IX
The Lion King
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen 2
Toy Story 4
Captain Marvel
Aladdin
Dumbo

It's very possible that Disney has the top 3, maybe even top 5 movies of the year. Their competition? Lego Movie 2, Spider-Man Far from Home, Hobbs & Shaw, and outside chance movies like Jumanji 3, It: Chapter 2, and Detective Pikachu. Shazam or Godzilla could maybe make moves but that's doubtful. Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood could probably be top-10 but not higher.

I can't fathom how much money Disney is going to get next year. Anybody want to make a couple guesses? Does any other movie stand a chance making it into the top 5 for the year?

There's going to be ass ton of $1+ billion at the BO for sure.

Avengers with the easy $2+ billion. (Star Wars may or may not hit it).

Not Disney, but Godzilla will do well, probably seeing significant growth over 2014 and Skull Island. Maybe $650-700M or thereabouts.

I can see Endgame making $2B and star wars making over $1.5B and the rest excluding captain marvel and Aladdin seem to have a good shot of crossing $1B. Disney is gonna drown in money.

Lion King has a big chance to secure a better BO than Star War 9 due to its international recognition and its solid track record.

I can see Aladdin and Dumbo making the least out of that list.

Lion King could make more than Star Wars.

I'd say there's a distinct possibility of that happening.

People were at fever point waiting for just the title to Episode VIII, but now? Out of all the films listed in this thread it's probably well near the bottom in terms of anticipation and box office clout.

Star Wars IX - Will make as much if not more than TLJ. (1.3 - 1.5 billion)

The Lion King - 1 billion or more easily, even if the critics flay it.

Avengers: Endgame - 1.5 - 2.0 billion

Frozen 2 - 1.2 - 1.5 billion but this one could have major legs given the popularity of the first.

Toy Story 4 - 1.5 billion, maybe more. It'll be HUGE here in the US.

Captain Marvel - Probably won't pull another Black Panther type run but it'll near or even break 1 billion.

Aladdin - This one seems iffy, especially given that so much of the original film is associated with Robin William's performance.
This one could under perform.

Dumbo - Could be a big hit but overall I think this (or Aladdin) will be the lowest-grossing film out of this stable.

Regardless, Disney is going to have (another) monster year.

My only opinion are on Dumbo and Aladdin being at the bottom. I think Guy Richie will fuck up Aladdin and Dumbo doesn't have the feels attached to it like the other movies

Disney hasn't even started the hype-train for Episode 9 yet.

Once it starts, the mounting anticipation will be enormous.

My ranking of how I predict they'll do:

Lion King at #1
Avengers
Frozen 2
Star Wars
Toy Story 4

Captain Marvel
Aladdin
Dumbo

These last two will disappoint somehow. Captain Marvel will do well but won't blow up.
I know there are some bold placements in there but hey, it's not fun to just play it safe.

This just seems like Box Office Cannibalism.

what are the release dates on all these? I feel like there is not enough space in the year to spread these out effectively, as we're not even including all their smaller movies, nor the competitors blockbuster competition.

Star Wars IX is going to have hype artist JJ Abrams behind the wheel, I would add on a few hundred million just for that.

(And also because he makes really good films.)

Avengers: Endgame - 700m/2.1b (Shit gonna be hype)
The Lion King - 600m/1.6b (I mean it will make a lot of money for sure but I'm hesitant since its literally the same film so far))
Star Wars IX - 650m/1.4b (J.J. will bring people back but not everyone unless its a masterpiece)
Toy Story 4 - 650m/1.3b (It will beat whatever Incredibles 2 did)
Frozen 2 - 450m/1.2b (Not sure about this one, if the movie is really good then yeah will do better than the first one but not by much)
Aladdin - 400m/900m (A Tough One, the lack of Robin will hit this one hard but Smith is a worldwide darling so it can still do good numbers)
Dumbo - 250m/750m (Not really seeing the hype for this one, but if Burton gets it right will make a lot of cash)
Captain Marvel - 250m/700m (Will do Doctor Strange numbers)

Damn son, add all of this alongside Disney+ and they are going to drown in money....
