Game is repetitive, but I'll play for a couple hours to use my man Xiahou Dun with the eye patch. After a couple hours, it gets pretty boring.

Koei are the cheapest company in existence and I'm glad DW9 bit them in the ass again

Some of the things I feel often get neglected are the extra features.

Things like body guards, character creators, teams/changeable characters, weapon changes, mission objectives, strategies, morale effects, power up states etc.

On one hand a game that keeps it simple can still be a lot of fun but as someone who has played many in the series and enjoyed many of the games with various supporting systems it is something I am always on the look out for and hope to see improved and expanded.

Weapon options in particular I think are a great addition. Too often in the past I find a character I like in terms of appearance only to have them with a unbalanced, weak moveset or perhaps I just get bored of it after so many hours. Games like Orochi Warriors where the roster is huge had some woefully underpowered heroes.

It is a shame DW9 seems to have bombed. I was sort of looking forward to it and really like some of the designs on the characters.

Some of my favourite characters

I'd love to see Pirate Warriors 4. 3 is fantastic and one of my favourites easily.

We also need a Final Fantasy Musou.

Hyrule Warriors on Switch is my first attempt at playing the series, and I'm really not a fan. At times, when fighting some of the more difficult enemies and on the verge of death, the combat is really good. But I just don't like all the other objectives. They throw a tiny map in the right-hand corner with a bunch of blinking dots on it and expect me to know what my priority should be. I haven't failed a mission because I've died yet, I've failed missions where either the objectives were too spread out for the amount of time they gave me, or I failed an objective I didn't even know I had.

The gameplay feels like it should just be me destroying everything on the map and capping everything, but then they slow it down with too much dialog, and in the end it's actually just a really shitty NPC escort mission, except the NPCs are miles apart and suicidal.

I watched a few episodes of the three kingdoms show, it's pretty good

I enjoy the games but I think I'd only bother with crossover ones with other franchises, there's no charm there on its own.

DW8 is my first DW since 4 and I thought it was awesome. It's not super repetitive because there are so many different characters and weapons and are constantly given opportunities to use different characters in the story mode. And I genuinely like a lot of these characters even if they are one dimensional. I probably won't get another game though. This was mostly a nostalgia trip for me.

Its actually part of the package. Knowing when to ignore mobs and just diving through enemy territory to complete vital objectives is actually something I always enjoyed from the series when it is on offer. It isn't that kind of strategy that I look for after some decent combat/move sets. These are the things that distinguishes the maps and games for me. On harder difficulties, travelling from one part of the map to another without clearing everything and getting 50% hp chunked if you get caught by an archer in the back for example is quite thrilling.

Do NOT pusuit Lu Bu!

Also the games are cool. Hard difficulty should always have been "normal" since the moment to mement gameplay gets gets dull otherwise.

The strategic movement and officer elimination only gets apparent on on harder difficulties so playing on the easy "normal" setting makes for a poor action game.
Playing on harder settings though gives you a nice action/strategy balance.

AND!!! after a hard day of work there's few things more relaxing than cutting down 1000 enemies. ;)

I love mousou!

No.

Samurai Warriors 4 is probably the best musou game right now. I did really enjoy DW7 though. Hyrule Warriors is fun, but I don't have a huge attachment to the Zelda series so it doesn't do much for me. I actually liked Fire Emblem Warriors more. DW9 was a huge disappointment.

Misunderstood series. People often see Musos as shallow beat-em-up/hack&slash when they're actually more strategy-lite games.

Dynasty Warriors 7's take on the story was the best ever implemented.
Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada also had an amazing storytelling perspective to it, only focusing on the Sanada Clan which made it a lot more intimate that normal. I'd like them to do that for each of the other clans as well.

Honestly feels awful to play. Im interested in the Gundam ones, because, well, Gundam, but even then the absurd number of enemies on screen turns me off, because it makes even less sense in Gundam context than it does a faux-historical war thing to me.

Fell in love with musou two years or so ago. You can break down almost every genre to "do this same thing for many hours"
Musou games have mostly other things going on as well. Also DW9 is better than everyone says, fun game an unnecessary open world.

I'm excited for Orochi 4, as I never thought it'd happen the way it's happening now, and I'm also one of seemingly few people that wasn't crazy about the guests. However, I hope that they don't revert the formula with the next DW game after 9. A lot of people ignore 9's potential or the strong baseline it's set up, and want Omega Force to scrap the whole thing rather than improve it. OF rarely ever gets a formula right in the first go (see DW2, DW6, DW7) but are big on iterating and improving until they do, which is what I really hope to see with a prospective DW10.

Also, many of the character designs in DW9 are the best they've looked since 4 & 5. For most characters that debuted after those games, it's the best they've ever looked.

Dw4 has the best soundtrack in the series

5 for me, but 4 is right behind.

I love the series.

They are very good for releasing stress and it feels so god damn therapeutic to play these games. I think people focus too much on the sameyness and the simplistic gameplay to see the appeal of the games. They are there for when you just want kill shit while feeling like a bad ass with unique rocking music and cheesy characters are blabbing about something.

Also Dynasty Warriors 9 got too many unnecessary shit, the game was really fun combat wise and the map being open word was really immersive because it made me feel the scale of the map. Hopefully they improve on it instead of going back to the original formula.

Only played Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and I could see the appeal of the series as something you don't really have to think about and can relax to. Although I wasn't really digging the setting and characters. Berserk should have been my gateway since I already love those characters but apparently that game sucks so I'm stuck in an awkward place where I want to get into it but lack that motivation to push me forward. Reminds me of the Souls series before Bloodborne.

Don't listen to the Hyrule people. Despite Hyrule being a fine game, One Piece PW3 is without question the greatest Warriors game.
