At the end of Day 1, finally decided to wipe the mirror. Just for fun, tried the "Impossible" check to stop The Expression manually. Double sixes.

I am a god.

I miss this game, it's got its claws in deep. Sigh. The things you do to put food on the table. And to keep buying games like these. To be fair though, there hasn't been a game like this in years.

So how many days are there in the game? I'm confused by some people completing this in 15-20 hours, and the reviewers saying 30-40, and the devs saying 60-90. lol.

Like how big is the scope of this thing? I know there are other locations on a map and stuff. I just find it wild that I've played for 11 hours and am literally about to go to bed for the first day.

TBH, no one has really ever made a game like this before.

This is kind of hard to answer even having beaten it. It's not clear what's being triggered by time and by the stages of your investigation.

There's no day limit. Ignore that misunderstood something.

Gotcha, but there are multiple side quests, and the game does take you to other areas?
You unlock more areas as the investigation progresses. If you are not economical with your time it is possible for quests to be closed off, that happened to me. It's still early and I haven't read enough other players' spoilered experiences to really know how everything is scripted.

There's two entrances

As to the time to finish, I beat it in about 20 hours (24 on my Steam profile, but 4 of that was idle). I felt like I was really thorough, but I know there's a lot I missed. I also read really fast, so that might have something to do with it.

Played around an hour and a half of this after sitting on the fence for the last day or so. Really enjoying it.

How does the passage of time work? Is it based off of conversations and quest progression or is it purely time?

Should I be exploring every nook and cranny or should I roleplay as a detective with a job to do as much as possible?

Conversations advance time. Quests only advance it so far as they involve a lot of talking. Explore everything you can, but it's worth be economical with your time.

Is time supposed to (late night of day 1 spoilers)
stop passing at 2am? The clock hasn't ticked past 2 so I'm still running around getting a lot done. Is the idea just that you *have* to sleep in order to get back to the daylight hours?
No problem. Easy thing to overlook.

I do the former and stick to my guns. Roleplaying is my top priority with stuff like that.

Definitely see the Pathologic vibes. I was playing a lot of Pathologic 2 last week and going from that to this has me drawing way more comparisons between them than I had anticipated.
That's what I've been doing so far. I have a natural tendency to try and min-max stuff but for this game I'm trying to RP as much as I can.

Explore as much as you can. It's awesome. Especially when your partner goes to sleep.

I haven't beaten this but it feels like you have plenty of time to finish everything if you don't hurry the main crime investigation. Nearing 20 hours and the end of the game. I was pretty thorough by got locked out of a few convos I imagine

Oh, really? I could swear I saw a dev FAQ say there aren't any time locks to the cases. Did it just straight up tell you you were too late to do something?

Yeah, there was this from a dev

Okay some more clarification!

There are no timed quests in Disco Elysium. The clock symbol next to a task in your journal does not mean it's "timed". That is: do it by a certain time, or you will never get to do it. Rather, it means this task can only be done at after a certain time of day: after 21.00, after 23.00 etc.
The time is always specified in the task's description.

For example: the "end of 1st day Kim debrief" task can be completed by clicking on your room door in the Whirling In Rags at the end of the 1st day, after 21.00. Kim will say "hey, let's talk about the day before". (NOTE: you need to first have paid Garte for the damages for this.)

There are other clock-symbol tasks too. To track down the Smoker on the Balcony you need to go to his apartment after 22.00, as the task description specifies. But remember: if you don't make it to the meeting after 22.00 – if you forgot or had something else to do -- you can always go again tomorrow after 22.00.

The tasks will not be gone tomorrow. They are there, in your Journal when you wake up next morning. And morning after that and so on.

Only doing the debrief with Kim is special in that way. It's not available tomorrow, because it doesn't need to be: it's unavoidable at the end of day 1. Kim is very insistent :)

Hope this helps!

When it comes to thoughts you can get, is there a way to see what bonus/negatives they give you before you learn them? Or is there a way that once you finish "learning" them when you get the full-page infographic on it and have to click "Accept" at the bottom to choose not to accept it?

Just finished lonesome long way home and it does no good for my build.

Also a question about skill caps, anyone know any good way to raise the physique cap or did I screw myself? I went 4, 4 INT/PSY and 2, 2 PHYS/MOT and then realized that I REALLY want to have Shivers to go with Inland empire but it's capped to 4.

Last night I... [container contents spoiler]

talked a locked container open and inside was a high-net-worth individual so rich, compared to the protagonist, that he bends light when looking at him

That experience was something.

Is it spoilery to know what level stat checks go up to? I have 17 Pain Threshold around beginning of Day 3 and can just keep raising it every time I drink. The self-destructive behavior it advertised hasn't really kicked in much so I just keep putting more points in it. I'm wondering though if there's a soft cap for when extra stats stop doing anything for you, since drugs keep letting you put more skill points into things.

I think the max is 20, but I'm not sure.
Yeah that I understood, but why?
Because of that letter/postcard you read.

The game kind of shits the bed in the later half with its design and strict funneling.
After the first half you start to realise that this is an extremely linear game with little to no lasting consequences for your actions and scenarios mostly end up playing out the exact same way. Kind of disappointed by that.

Yes, the perks for thoughts are all surprises. You pretty much have to pick by whether you like their flavor, or look at the spreadsheet people are compiling.

Which brings me to your second question: the Regular Cop thought raises your caps to 3 for the ones that were lower before. But it is also the copotype that takes the longest to get (how you get this one should be pretty obvious).

Although... I'm not sure how much shivers you actually need. I'm going with my starting 4 and it has been basically active all the time.

I've seen quite a few legendary Shivers prompts at least.
