I watched the first 40 odd minutes or so. He seemed to be enjoying it, and I personally reallly loved what I saw. Reluctant to watch more though.
I just heard that they both died hilariously.
Beyond the curve of the horizon, where the ocean ends, there is an unknowable anti-reality mass called the pale. It has been there for as long as human beings have written down history. And it's advancing.
Not sure that was mentioned anywhere before.

So the China Mieville recommendations weren't just for tonal similarities; this is some weird pseudo-dark-fantasy-noir worldI just heard that they both died hilariously.
Oh, there's also a new dev blog about the world with some.. interesting tidbits:

Your stats being so characterized makes me wonder if they'll pull a Adahn with your stats if you use/upgrade them enough. That would be very Mieville
Also vaguely reminds me of M. John Harrison's Nova Swing. The Pale in Disco reminds me of the Saudade Event Site in that book (or the Zones in Roadside Picnic/Stalker).
Not having read Mieville, what I'm getting is a post-modern Sigil. The concept sprinkled with semi-familiar real world flavor while still remaining utterly bizarre and otherworldly.
Good to know, thanks! At the end of the stream, he said it was that kind of game that he would "no life" if he didn't have streaming commitments. He loved it.
Any content filter options for people who don't like swearing?
Good news for you guys, it looks like there's a swear filter that the streamers have been using copiously. As a person who tends to get somewhat triggered whenever people swear, even if it's in positive contexts, I sympathize with this desire -- but I feel like a game like Disco Elysium would be much worse without swearing; its tone, as far as I can tell, heavily capitalizes on a kind of sleaziness from the protagonist that would be difficult to communicate well without swear words. (Not to mention the vast amount of re-writing that would probably have to occur.)
(A quite more extreme example would be: Can you imagine TLOU II without swearing?)
Are there any games that offer such content filter options?
Wow! Given how important swearing seems to be to the game's general mood, I won't be using this. But it's an amazing option. Thanks for letting us know :)Good news for you guys, it looks like there's a swear filter that the streamers have been using copiously.

That's it, I'm done watching and reading anything about this game until release lol.I just heard that they both died hilariously.

The weird personality stats and now this is reminding me a lot of like some weird detective-noir cousin of Fallen London's setting.I just heard that they both died hilariously.

humanity ascends in six short days.
Couple of people at PC Gamer consider it their (potential) GOTY.
The wait...it's too longAndy K: Having just sunk 16 hours into a preview build, I think Disco Elysium definitely has a shot at being the, or at least one of, the year's best games. It's one of the most impossibly deep RPGs I've ever played, and the writing is fantastic—if a little indulgent at times. What makes it special is the sheer number of skill checks in every interaction and conversation, with more permutations than I think any single human could ever realistically see. It's a role-playing game in the truest sense, allowing you to shape your alcoholic detective in a terrifyingly dense variety of ways. I'll hold off on proclaiming it GOTY until I get my hands on the review code, but for now, it's a very strong contender indeed.
No embargo. Been playing the game, it's definitely GOTY material.
Anyone know the release time for the 16th, or what is it usually for European players of Steam games? Asking because going to something in evening.
That's good, I hope the later parts of the game hold up as well as the beginning seems to.No embargo. Been playing the game, it's definitely GOTY material.
Alright, then I'll have to play this the next day hehe, thank you!I think it's 5PM GMT usually. Games tend to unlock at 7/8PM for me which has always been a bit annoying.
FIVE PM GMT?!I think it's 5PM GMT usually. Games tend to unlock at 7/8PM for me which has always been a bit annoying.
FIVE PM GMT?!
are you saying i have to slog through an entire day of work in my not-sorry-cop life before i can become my one true calling, sorry-cop?!

i have no mouth and i must scream >:CWorse news, 5pm GMT is 6pm BST. The clocks aren't going back until the 27th.
I think it's up to the devs though. Considering they are located in Estonia, they might launch it a little earlier but idk.I think it's 5PM GMT usually. Games tend to unlock at 7/8PM for me which has always been a bit annoying.

there's absolutely no chance of a preload is there? :(

why are we still here [without a preorder] just to suffer?
I have no inside knowledge, but my assumption is that by not spreading day one sales over the weeks leading up to launch, you have a higher chance of visibility on Steam due to higher sales over a shorter period.
