Don't forget about all the things you're supporting when you buy this THQ Nordic game.

Here's a helpful summary post of all the events for the uninitiated.

Mod statement: "To address a few recurring points: We will not be banning games published by THQ Nordic and subsidiaries like Deep Silver. You are instead welcome to continue raising the issue in threads relevant to the publisher and its games."

_______________________________________________________________

This game is being published by THQ Nordic. For those who may not be aware or who may have forgotten, THQ Nordic had a marketing effort where it intended to gain attention using a website that is known primarily for its support of child pornography, as well as for support of Neo-Nazism, doxxing, and other extremely damaging behaviours.

THQ Nordic's provided no response to this fiasco except for an apology claiming they did not do enough research. As the website is unlisted by Google, they had spoken to the board owner about removing "nasty stuff", and content was viewable both before and during the campaign, this claim is beyond belief. The individuals responsible are known not to be rogue PR interns, but go up to THQ Nordic's board. THQ Nordic has not been dealt with the individuals responsible.

Consider that by supporting this game, you are supporting a publisher that is complicit with child pornography.

Thanks for such great summary!

Looks like a fine port indeed. The 60 fps mode makes this very tempting to me. Shame that it looks quite blurry in portable mode with high performance enabled, but 60 fps should be worth it, especially in an action game like this. Consider me impressed and interested.

Shitty game and shitty publisher. This game could run at 8000fps and there's no way I'd support it with a purchase.

540p on small is screen is fine, it's softer but absolutely fine.

I remember playing it on 360 with awful screen tearing.
Better resolution, textures, and near 60fps with no screen tearing makes it an impressive leap over the original.

But I didn't like it even outside of the poor tech so I'm not sure I'll retry it

Don't do it, it isn't a bad game but if you didn't liked it then, the time investment may not be worth it, its slow, maybe try Dragon's Dogma instead, im gonna play it for the first time :D

I'll consider it depending on how the port turns out.
Would be my first experience as well, though I'm a bit worried if it holds up or not

Well, honestly, I didn't like it the first time either. Played on PS3 initially for a couple hours and dropped it. Played it a year later on PC and finished it. Absolutely loved it.

I never beat it, but I did like the second one even if it was probably just as jank.

There was something about the combat, I think it was certain enemies not reacting to hits which never felt right. Sequel veered more into Prince of persia and diablo loot, but I liked the combat more so I stuck with it.

Maybe after a sale or something, not in a huge rush

It's funny because the first couple of hours really aren't indicative of what the rest of the game's like at all. I've seen a lot of people over the years say they dropped it like an hour in thinking it's just a bad God of War clone.

Unfortunately that doesn't send the right message. All corp will see in the end are the sales numbers, they don't have notes attached that say "Bought it to support the devs ONLY."

How much do you think a couple dozen posters on ResetEra boycotting the games they publish will affect their bottom line? Most people in the real world don't even know what THQN even is, and of those who do, many don't buy games to reward the publisher, but the developers, even though both benefit from a sale. This ResetEra boycott is going to be statistical noise in THQ's financials. I understand why you guys are doing it, but don't expect it to have any effect at all.

I'm also not buying it because it's $30 on Switch and $20 on every other platform.

So be it. I nonetheless refuse to be complicit in rehabilitating the image of a company that is willing to condone the sexual abuse of children.

I mean I'd also add that this was the site where the guy who went on a murder spree in New Zealand recently was being radicalized, but, like, it's not that the site can really have its reputation lowered beyond what it already is.

well im glad this came out actually good. On the other hand they messed up the patch for darksiders 1 on xbox and seemingly forgot they announced a darksiders 2 patch for last year(it still isnt out). Might see if I can borrow my brothers switch and get this.

It's actually kinda a shame that the Wii U version was released. I bought that one when it came out now I feel no need to buy it again.

If they had just skipped over it and went straight to Switch I would have done otherwise.

no, not really. you are just buying a freaking game that has nothing to do with those things

Nope. THQ Nordic published it. 8Chan is the company that the people who run the company keep. They can't be disentangled.
I have zero qualms with calling people who are willing to support the game complicit in both the sexual abuse of children and white supremacist violence.

So Digital Foundry is complicit in the sexual abuse of children and white supremacist violence then? We have members of the team right here in this thread if you want to tell them directly.

You should really educate yourself on this rather than being dismissive. Your money is going to something awful.

Nice straw man when they didn't even mention DF's coverage at all.

What? He said "people who are willing to support the game." That includes Digital Foundry. It's not a strawman.

I mean I'm not exactly going to come out here and give medals to people who have decided not to buy the game because they can't get 1080p 60 fps in docked mode or whatever

Really disappointed DF chose to cover this one.

On the other hand, I'm glad they did. It's always interesting to see how hard work of developers earning their living had paid off.

I own about 6 copies of this game now, but have never once finished it. Thanks to portable mode this will be the time, I swear!

Friend got me it as an early birthday gift. Fantastic port overall. Performance mode lowers the resolution, but on my 1080p HDTV I can barely notice any big downgrades apart from some lower AA, which is worth it to hit a consistent 60fps. Only time it stutters is when saving or transitions to larger areas from time to time. No complaints here, Kaiko did a fantastic job! Their Legend of Kay Wii U port was pretty great too fom what I remember.

that's THEIR problem, not mine. also you can't know what your favorite developers do in their private life. they can be free criminals or drug dealers and you will never know. it's just their problem, not yours. you are just enjoying videogames.

Which is why it's a huge fucking problem when the guys who run the company are so open, so brazen about it! It's why I don't think it's good to let this go.
(Plus there's a huge, huge difference between condoning and sharing nazi propaganda and normalizing child sexual abuse and, like, selling drugs)

That's a nice way to absolve yourself of any and all responsibility in what you choose to monetarily support.

The fact of the matter is that unlike these silly straw man arguments being thrown about, what THQ Nordic higher-ups did was enthusiastically signal boost and derogatorily pal around with members of a website that solely exists to disseminate child porn, breed white nationalist radicals, facilitate harassment campaigns and crimes such as swatting/doxxing.

You're free to buy the game. Others want THQN to simply acknowledge the situation in a meaningful way: fire those involved when possible, donate proceeds to relevant charities — literally anything more than a demonstrably dishonest "apology" that absolves those involved.

So what is this series, exactly? This one really flew under my radar as I hadn't even heard of it (or barely noticed it) until I started seeing some "hidden gem" kind of discussions taking place on Era.

What are some of the things about this game that have people calling it a "gem"? Would this be a good fit for the Switch?

Third Option: Boycott Mode (0p, 0fps)
-Produce a visible expression of disgust and leave the store without purchasing the game or giving THQ Nordic and its troupe of 8chan employees any money.

The first game is a solid Zelda-like action game.

why are you even here? Jesus...

I mean, mods did say that THQ threads were still permitted so that the issue could be discussed. While his post was inflammatory, I don't think its any surprise to see people who feel strongly about the issue come into the topic to express that. I, for one, am actually very glad there are people who care enough about not letting the issue just be shoved away to keep bringing it up. I appreciate that.

I think it's the "shitty game" part that's riling people up, because even if the 8ch thing hadn't happened, that poster apparently still wouldn't have had any interest in this release.
