Why? I see no reason to make a video comparing such things. John already showed off handidly why the second game is quite a bit better detailed and more polished than the first.

I kind of disagree, it's definitely a very interesting comparison to see the evolution of their engine and artwork. Throwing the PC version of Horizon 1 into the mix for a high res view of the last gen tech would also be interesting.

So you are playing performance mode and bitch about graphic ?
Thats why there is quality mode in first place.

I found all 60 fps games looking so bad i want to puke. Im much mode tolerant to 30 fps.
I don't bitch. Butbusually 1440p+ games looks very good and sharp. And are 60fps. This one is strange

The larger cutscenes being FMV in the PS4 version (realtime on PS5) is notable when comparing install sizes & compression.

I didn't know the PS4 cutscenes were just videos. So I assume on PS4 Pro they will always stay at 1080p even with increased res? Yikes.
Now it will be surprising not to have those cutscsnes running in real time on PS5.

While I understand that seeing footage from performance mode and hearing it`s 1800p(cb) might be confusing to some, it actually shouldn`t come as a surprise. The first game runs at the same resolution and when you play it with the 60FPS-patch, you`ll see lots of shimmering. Even the PC version in native 4k has visible shimmering on foliage etc. when moving around and currently only DLSS manages to fix this. So it`s pretty much an engine thing.

Nah the pre-rendered ones are 4k for pro, just like it was for HZD.

It's actually a lower resolution than 1440p, but from the looks of it there's just something weird going on with the TAA that's making it not agree with the CBR.
I'm sure it'll get fixed.

A lot of work went in to the base PS4 version to get it to get it to run and look as good as it does, reconstruction, and software VRS. I think the end results are really good for a console from 2013.

And keep playing last gen versions of 2k? I'll pass. There are versions of games that show substantial differences between gens.

Then you are already looking at benefits of next gen games, even if they are cross gen. Let those on last gen happy playing at 1080p or 1440p for as long as possible.

If you play the PS4 version on PS5 does that mean you're playing the Pro version ?

If it was designed only pushing PS5 the game's visuals and design would make it impossible to PS4, next Horizon will shit all over this one in a few years.

Once again, we don't know this for a fact. It could also be that the engine was well-designed and scales down nicely for older hardware. PC games have been made like this for many years; just because the latest games can also run on older hardware does not mean that they won't look awesome on the newest and greatest GPUs.

This "cross-gen games cannot look as good as current-gen exclusives" theory is a myth IMO. Remember when Metal Gear Solid V came out and looked like crap on PS4/XB1 because there were also 360/PS3 versions? ...actually, that's not what happened at all. And I don't see anybody looking at Forza Horizon 5 running on Series X saying "if only they'd dropped XB1, this would have looked so much better."

Gran Turismo 7 is just around the corner, and I think it will be further proof that I'm not wrong on this.

Guerrilla has patched the game today. Restart it twice to get rid of shimmers:

edit: Some are reporting that this only concerns Resolution mode shimmering/hdr.

Yeah PS5 is able to play PS4 games, in this case the PS4 Pro version. But the game has a free upgrade, so there is no need for that in this case, but it's totally possible if someone for some reason wants to play the PS4 version.

You can even have both version installed if you wish to compare them yourself.

Richard: "this(PS5 version) is like a proper generational leap here"

The answer is yes. It does.

I remember during the DF reaction to the HZW reveal, they commented at the absurd level of geometry that the PS5 is pushing in the beach biome ( corals, etc), and that they didnt think PS4 could do it. I wonder if the geometry had to be cut back on ps4 in some areas?

Cross Gen games look as good and some times better than new next gen games because devs are not exploring the full potential of new hardwares, the next Horizon will look vastly superior just as the best looking games of last gen looks much better than the early cross gen games.

I'm loving the resolution mode 30fps on my cx. Absolutely gorgeous. I'm fine with 30 if the visuals are amazing.

For me the generational leap is that the PS5 can run a game like this at 60FPS.

In terms of visual presentation the PS5 and PS4 versions are remarkably similar. Yes, I can see all the subtle differences pointed out by DF, but the final image at a glance is really close. It reminds me of medium vs high in a PC game.

This ain't a medium to high pc like comparison, this is more low to ultra settings

This game benefits greatly from running on an SSD on the PS4. Load times are half of what's show in the this video. 25 seconds from menu to gameplay. Fast travel and respawning is also happening at a speed that isn't bothersome at all.

Props to the devs for making this game great across all the supported platforms.

I do miss the times when generational leaps meant this wasn't actually possible to do, however.

The thing that blows my mind is the conversation with the npc's. Does anyone know all those conversations are motion captured or just something like computer generated? Because i can't believe how realistic it looks with every mimic, lip/eyes/body movement it is simply crazy.
